  • After an IFR departure from KPAO then VFR to KTCY in a G1000 equipped Cessna 172SP in May 2014, I dropped off my CFI Mark Erwin (www.mark1aviation.com) and practiced solo landings at KTCY. This video contains 5 landings and 1 go around. The landings were softer than they look on video because the GoPros (especially the one under the tail) have some play in their mountings.
I have two GoPro cameras (one in the cockpit and one under the tail) plus ATC and cockpit recording via cable to the GoPro.
As a learning exercise, the tail mounted camera is showing me that I continue to land far to the left of the center line on a continuous basis. I call this the "left landing tendency of a student pilot". So, that is what I continue to work on.
The other videos from this lesson are:

    • IFR KPAO KTCY Cessna 1...
    and
VFR departure KTCY then IFR into KPAO

What made you decide to do a go around at 16:50? Never a bad thing. Just curious to know what concerned you.

I still had too much airspeed and as I pulled back on the elevator the plane started to gain altitude. With more experience now I would have re-landed the plane. I was far too mechanical (vs fluid) with back pressure. Also, back in May, I did not have a good sense of how far off the runway I actually was. Thanks for watching and commenting.
