  • IFR training flight from KSAC to KPAO with my instructor Mark Erwin (www.mark1aviation.com). Full flight video (with minor edits to keep length to under 60 minutes) with cockpit audio. Almost the entire flight was in IMC.

18:28 NO NO NO NO NO.
91.175 approach lighting enables you to descend 100ft OVER THE TDZE. That may be the case for a precision approach and standard HAT (200ft) But there are many cases where the ILS/LPV or localizer minimums is even 300ft or more above the ground

I don't know what any of that means

Great video. My only constructive comment is to maybe have the camera zoomed into the panel so that we can read the instruments. I zoomed, but too blurred to read. I just got my instrument ticket. This is great refresher for me. Thanks.

I was wondering where you went, seems like you fell off the youtube planet for a year+. I really enjoyed watching you progress through your ppl training, looking forward to instrument.

After I got my PPL ~13 months ago I just had fun flying around Northern California. After a while you realize how limiting VFR can be, so I have unofficially started working on my instrument rating. I will keep the GoPro in the cockpit! Thanks for watching.

Wow. That was pretty steep at the end with no power.

IFR training and check ride was all manual in the 1970s. Fancy displays don't make a good pilot.

Appreciate your skill back in the day but for situational awareness, the G1000 and GPS in general are powerful tools. One advantage I bet you would agree with is the G1000's usage of the magnetometer (note, no pilot adjustment necessary) instead of a vacuum driven gyro (constant adjustment needed) to display your magnetic heading.

@@pboothus Yes. However, there should be a desktop flight simulator to get students proficient in quickly navigation through the G1000 rather than stumbling around during instrument flight training.

On that flight we are in a Cessna 172SP G1000
