  • This is my first time: 1) flying the Cessna 182T 2) in the mountains
and 3) landing at KTVL (Lake Tahoe) where we stopped for lunch on this beautiful sunny day. We departed KPAO IFR and completed the flight VFR. This video shows the approach and landing on RWY36.
I am a private pilot with a VFR rating completing my IFR training. I am flying today with my long time instructor Mark Erwin (www.mark1aviation.com) out of KPAO. Full cockpit audio and video in this G1000 equipped Skylane.

My first flight to Lake Tahoe was in a C150 on my own. It was a hot day and I remember taking a lot of the runway just to get airborne. Then had to continue straight out north over the lake to gain height before turning back south to clear the mountains and back to Livermore. If I had a set of golf clubs with me I think I'd still be circling over the lake!

That right downwind approach to 36 is a hairy one with all those mountains and winds.

Stupid question but what is the type of camera you’re using and how is it mounted? Really nice job.

I have a GoPro mounted on an expandable aluminum post standing vertically between the seats. It was originally designed for the older 172 (pre-shoulder belts) to go horizontally between the back windows (it has suction cups on each end). Hope that helps. Many people have asked where I got it but I have been unable to find anyone selling it any longer.

I was going to ask the same question because I can never get the G1000 display and the outside to be as clear as your video is. I either get one or the other due to the light difference between outside and inside the cockpit. Do you use a special polar filter?

You really have watch your density on take off. Added full power with flaps and used almost the whole runway.

Turbo would help with that issue, but great advice.

  • @scenicdepictionsofchicagolife

Can you hear the Turbocharger in flight? I can never tell from video audio

I only flew that plane a couple of times but I don't recall being able to hear the turbocharger specifically. It is a louder, larger and heavier 172. Thanks very much for watching.

Wait G1000 doesn't even show mountains or runways???? it's a 30000$ system and it shows nothing????? wtf

MFD shows terrain. I have it zoomed out. As I recall this aircraft did not have synthetic vision (PFD).
