He never addresses it it's just the reading of the line ... though I have to also wonder if someone's theory from the other video is legit - that it's not Baba Yaga but rather a male version that is kind of like her nephew/son depending on the story who did similar things but is basically eternal, coming back again and again after "Dying" - which would fit with the passing on from person to person - but also still fit the baba yaga traits mentioned ... so maybe the SHE is the Baba Yaga our mom/aunt ?

I had a thought; it seems to be implied that for someone to move on after they died in the cabin, every last piece of their body needs to be consumed. Meaning that the remains of the chompetts are still in the cabin unconsumed. Kind of makes sense when you remember that Karen was chomping on the remains of her friends in the basement. Potato at one point also mentions that eating him would cause you to be deathly ill. Does that mean he’s referring to his actual corpse still in the basement, rotted beyond belief?

One of the game's endings backs this theory up. In the ending where Karen falls in love with you she ends up passing years later. The player character tries everything he knows to keep her alive and can't understand why it's not working. It's because she isn't possessed by the Baba Yaga.

I find it sus that four characters (raspberry, onion, cabbage and bread) were more "native crops" to Eastern European soils, but potato (and corn) came there way later, after Columbus and co discovered new lands and new trade ways. This might mean nothing, but it makes potato an odd one again.
Ah, and the turnip is quite a native crop to Europe too.
I played this game blind and it was really scary. It was psychologically painful to watch Gregor on the couch limbless and I was crying on the floor when I first saw it. Great to see a second theory on it!

Cabbage was wearing green and raspberry was wearing a purple pink colour. Onion had like brown/skin coloured clothes and bread had white t-shirt. I don’t understand bread potato n cornbread :/

Petition for Matt to Play "Iron Lung" and find The Lore behind The Expedition. It's a game where you pilot a welded shut submarine. You must photograph points of interest and the only coordination you get is a map and a giant cam at the front. There seems to be ancient ruins and horrific beasts roaming about. I highly recommend for Matpat to check it out.

@@imenm3530 very well could be. I'd like to clarify the gallery picture though. All the other images are full screen pictures, and the ghosts in particular all have black background. Maria's ghost however, has no background, and looks like it's overlayed over the gallery itself, if that makes sense.

I'm sure you've heard but Bonelabs just got its first teaser trailer that released yesterday but there is already so much lore to it. For example the signed baseball is still there in the Tac Trial door and even the lyrics of the song give much away, some speculate that the song is about Ford trying to escape the void and it does make sense. There was only one trailer so I don't know if it would be too early to make a theory episode on it

What if cornbread was there from the beginning?
If the player was part of the group who entered the cabin and was singled out for the apprenticeship we could have been sent to get Razael back from wandering off. Kinda like how the others leave Razael could have left to get food and we were told to bring him back. We did and found Potato killing the others so killed him, only for Razael to become our first victim.
It could even be Razael was there with us when we had to eat our companions to survive and therefore could see them too. Razael then sacrificed themselves so we could live when we ran out off food. Hence we eventually let them go. We owed them.
I was surprised how much I liked this theory. I was struggling to figure out the whole deal behind the Chompettes and why Potato was radically different to them, along with why there was only one new Chompette after the deaths of the four main characters. I think the 'rules' you put forward to explain how Turnip was created made a lot of sense, and I liked the potential backstory for the MC; it explains why he won't let the Chompettes go and it gives him more depth than simply "Baba Yaga gonna Baba Yaga everybody".
”we were in the group of kids that became the chompettes” kids getting killed and coming back to life as an object, doesn’t remind me of any indie horror games that matpat covers quite often
Rewatching this after seeing the chompettes origin dlc and subsequent theory is really interesting. I'm seeing the same evidence and where trains of logic held the same course and where they changed directions, and seeing why he initially thought what he did. Super interesting.
This is a casual cooking game, just like DDLC is a visual novel dating game

I still like to think the chompettes as an allegory for the characters in the cabin: Karin is Cabbage, Anatoly is Onion, Gregor is Bread, Mariah is Raspeberry and we are Potato. Another thing that convinces me is the fact that Onion told us to protect Anatoly and Bread did the same for Gregor, and we always seemed to be on the same page with Potato, kind of like we understand each other in a way different from the rest of the Chompettes
That little teaser at the end is pretty strongly implying that the Chompettes were a different group, a group of children, it seems. But maybe that's a misdirection.

Maybe he didn’t count as we didn’t kill him because of the “hunger” but out of mercy..or perhaps it doesn’t count as the fatal wounds from Karen take priority making his death not our fault (he’d die either way).

I think he says it later but it has to be done by the baba yaga in the basement for it to be a chompette, all other deaths centered around the cabins are ghosts
