- Orin's Millipede, Floridobolus orini, is named after Orin McMonigle. Orin authored a couple of the pet millipede books that nearly every online resource traces back to whether that re-source realizes it or not. It is only fitting that science named a millipede species after him. It was my pleasure to know him during the time he was excitedly submitting specimens of this species for identification to the always approachable and gracious Dr. Rowland Shelley. Dr. Shelley passed away in 2018 and the halls of science and hobby may never see another person like him. "He did the science," and his door was always open to me and anybody else who had a question about millipedes, no matter how large or how small the question was.
I love millipedes! And these guys look awesome, and adorable lol
Thank you so much for sharing your appreciation for them!
I think these are my favorite types of millipedes
Is it because they are so pudgy in the middle? They are a bit flat in terms of color but that shape is really unique!
@@bugsincyberspace yes, love the shape of them, I have a few and when they come out they make me so happy
@@hayleyscar I love it!
Omg! These are awesome!
Their body shape is so unique. When Orin first described them to me, before I ever saw one and before they were scientifically described/named, he compared their shape to footballs. I still have that original image in my mind and of course they are not nearly that shape, but then again, how else would you explain them any better, also with a single word?
@@bugsincyberspace I dont think there really is a better word,lol.. they almost look chubby! You mentioned books on millies, did I miss the titles of those books in the video?
@@Tara-sf7uu Well, I'd be a fool not to direct you to the books section of my shop.bugsincyberspace.com website. ;) Thanks for asking, Tara!
@@bugsincyberspace awesome thanks!
Just started watching your videos. Excellent information! Thanks for sharing so much.
Thanks a bunch! I'm just gearing up here to post a lot more videos in the near future and very excited about it. I appreciate your comments!
@@bugsincyberspace My pleasure. I've been watching Aquarimax videos and all Rus ever does is talk great things about BIC. :) Not sure why it too me so long to visit.
@@SupremeGecko I originally put my channel up in 2008 but took it down last year after something happened to it that couldn't be fixed, and so I started it up again 10 months ago. Just about to start dedicating a couple days per week to vids like Rus does. Thanks for being here and talk again soon!
@@bugsincyberspace Of course! Rus does such an excellent job! I started my channel back up at the beginning of the year after being inspired by him. As we have the same interests, it's difficult to make sure I am not copying his excellent content. I hope my personality makes it a bit 'different' 😁😁
Im obsessed with millipedes, i want a import license so can get the blue thai
Hey I like these millipedes but I was wondering do you still have warrior beetles and can they be kept together?
I do still have some warriors. I personally keep them separated but I've known some people to both keep them together for breeding and to just generally keep them together. They aren't so commonly kept I think that there is enough reliable information on communal tanks for them, at least not that I know of. I've known a couple people to reproduce them in captivity and perhaps one of them will chime in here and add something to the conversation at some point. Thanks for your question and interest!
Thanks, I was just thinking that since they are a very well-armored beetle I thought maybe they could live together and the cage I have mine in is a great size for about three beetles. Also since the cage is large I will weaken the cricket before I put it in there but I thought "What if I put two more beetles in there so they can get the cricket together and if one dose not get food I give it a weakened cricket"
@@1979again Certainly with uncommonly kept insects you will want to take every precaution to minimize risks in the communal setting.
That's ok, I do plan on observing them often maybe for a week just to make sure that everything goes right
@@1979again I would love to hear the observations you make with them. Thanks!
