When I was in high school my teacher had a full size cardboard cutout of Tom Selleck in her classroom. This was 1982 she was 45 and FAT, and there was no ring on her left hand, so we all kind of understood what was going on.
Thomas William Selleck was born in Detroit in January 1945, but lived in Los Angeles, like most actors. He's 6'4 inches tall, and this created a problem because this is a VERY small car; A Porsche 928 was considered for the roll of the "car", but since a 928 has a V8 engine with a crossplane crankshaft it sounds like any other American car. The producers wanted the more exotic sound and look, so the 308 was used instead, and the cars used in the series had the targa roof.
I owned a 928 for 19 years, and it was a great car, never giving me any real problem. But I drove a Ferrari 308 in 1995, and since I was a skinny dork (6'1" and 145 pounds), I had no problems fitting into the car. The 308 drove like an old pickup truck with no power steering, and the clutch was very heavy! I asked the owner if this was right? My head was close to the roof, and it was more like "folding" into the car. That thing is SMALL. Tom at 6'4" and 200 pounds must have needed to be helped into that thing! That's why they always had him driving with the Targa roof off. A 928 would have worked far better for him. And after driving a 928 it was obvious that it was the better car, but this is television.
    Great video!

Umm your information kinda contradicts itself, take a look at the vin numbers listed at 8:56
chassis 29109 34567 38527 and 57685, then stop at 8:59 28251, meaning its an earlier car, also the ones listed are all red and tan
that's red and black, unless that's the green metallic one they had in one of the episodes and its been resprayed red, that's not one of the real ones
and the first ones in aulstralia, I found the video with the owner who actually has a speech impediment
but seems like a really nice guy, and he talked about how they bumped I think the camera equipment or one of the walls at the start of the show, and ferrari wanted 7 grand to fix the grill on the back
so they just wielded it back on for 500, as their was some serious price gauging going on given where the car was located
and the 308 was 70 thousand dollars back then, a testarossa 90, which I think went up to a 110
or that might have been the countach
also the quattro valve motor formed the base of the 288 GTO's motor, which was turbocharged by the factory to put out upwards of 400 and some change
for group B rally racing, that was then used on the F40, using that same motor, and not the 328's
and I think theirs way more than a thousand left on the roads, like the person who made that list probably went off of the british numbers
where you can track a car by its entire history and registry on one single plate, and when they dont get retaxed, they sometimes consider a car a write off when it isnt
also early cars were fiberglass and featured 14 inch rims and tires, latter was 15 or so with bigger brakes and tires
in addition to the motor changes, and the smog equipment they had fitted, also ferrari had just been bought out by fiat so their was alot of sort of parts sharing going on, and they were trying to find their footing with marcelli ignition and the like
in addition to the oil crunch, so the more you could make with less the better, hence why the very first cars featured at the french autoshow
and the first 200 or so were fiberglass on a steel tubular chasis
and realistically your looking at about a 180 to 200 hp, but the main thing was it was a high revving motor, and it had a 5 speed which allowed it to reach about a 145 plus, when the vette could barely do about a 120 and it had a pretty decent 0 to 60 of about 6 and a half seconds despite the low power
its kind of one of those things where you dont go off the specs' you drive it and see how it feels
as its not about the figures, its what gets to the wheels, granted the 328, the upgraded version of it was kind of outgunned by the late 80's thanks to the corvette getting its power back up, and lotus doing the same
and porsche being porsche, not to mention by that time lamborghini was out of the game, with the jalpa going out of production in the early 90s
so it kinda got left in the dust, and with turbocharging kicking in, it just got worse
hence why you hear this reputation of its not fast, when it is fast
and even some idiot was trying to tell me a quattro doesnt have enough power to drift when I told him he should buy it to revive his drifting fleet
as sometimes you just cant fix stupid, mind you an elise would smoke it from what the specs look to be

From what I've read, the 308/328 was pretty miserable to live with on a daily basis. The footwell was way too cramped (you needed tiny feet in order to fit), the pedals were situated too far to the right (in order to clear the left front fender well, which intruded significantly into the passenger compartment), and the HVAC system may as well been left off.
