The 1995 Dodge Ram truck in the 1996 movie "Twister" is not just a vehicle; it's a symbol of resilience and adventure against the backdrop of one of nature's most formidable forces. As the protagonists embark on a thrilling chase to study tornadoes, the Dodge Ram becomes their trusted companion, navigating treacherous terrain and braving the elements with unwavering determination. With its rugged design and powerful presence, the Dodge Ram embodies the spirit of adventure, serving as both a means of transportation and a tool for scientific discovery. Throughout the film, the Dodge Ram is put to the test, enduring intense winds, flying debris, and harrowing storms, yet it continues to push forward, a testament to its durability and reliability. As the characters chase tornadoes across the Midwest, the Dodge Ram becomes more than just a truck; it's a symbol of hope and resilience in the face of nature's fury, capturing the imagination of audiences and leaving an indelible mark on cinematic history.

I loved this movie when I was a little kid. I had a toy truck just like that dodge. I’d sit in front of the tv and recreate the scenes with my little truck.

I watched the VHS so much I nearly ruined the tape lol

You probably still do
They do all these car chases and scenes to exact precision, but one thing that drives me insane is when they show a vehicle driving, the gear shift is in the park position
Every time!!
Lol, yeah, small details like that often get over looked or maybe Bill broke just it 😉
Or they have the steering wheel sideways or even Upside down
Or it's an automatic and it shows them pushing the clutch and shifting. The Bert Reynolds movie Gator or maybe White Lightning shows it a lot. Smokey and the Bandit also does it.
Captain America the winter soldier- cap and widow are on the road in a stolen gmc and it’s in park and all the gauges are dead.
Twister is by far my favorite movie ever. Thanks for the great video.
You're very welcome and it is a great one indeed 😉👍
it's in my top 5 for sure and I'd say it's my #1 movie soundtrack! I saw the movie in the theater opening night and a friend of mine was laughing as I nearly fell out of my seat on hearing for the first time the then-new songs by Mark Knopfler and Stevie Nicks / Lindsey Buckingham among others, I don't think I went straight from the theater to Camelot Music looking for the CD but I might have! :D As for the subject of this video I do believe the Dodge Rams and the smaller Dakota of this era that shared the same styling were some of the best and certainly the best looking trucks Dodge ever made and I nearly bought one a few years after the movie, geez just seeing the prices of trucks in general these days now I really wish I'd have done it!
When I was a kid I remember wanting a dodge ram when I saw this movie
😉👍

Probably the most unrealistic aspect of that truck in the film, is the transmission didn't fail! 94-95's were very prone to early transmission failure.
Don't get me wrong though, by far the best looking Dodge trucks ever built. And other than the transmission issues, solid axle tough trucks.
I'm sure they broke plenty of them with all the stunts in such since those transmissions could barely handle a day's commute let alone being jumped and driving over tree trunks, lol 😉
I had 2 90's with 200,000 on them not one transmission issue.
@@karlsracing8422 Yeah. '90 models were still first gen, which didn't seem to have the same kind of transmission issues as second gen did, not sure what happened that caused so many issues for the second gens.
@@timeiden7471them solid front axles were junk in them truck ive owned a few of them rams in that body style and nothing but front end problems my IFS Chevy trucks have proven to me that they go way longer on a front end job then them ara of dodge trucks
This is the truck that got me into Dodge lol. I loved this movie as a kid, and still do. My mom has a picture I drew in first grade of a red Ram
😉👍
Me too, my family has had their fair share of the 2nd gen dodge rams. My grandfather had a 95 dodge 1 ton dually and my uncle had a 2000 dodge 2500 diesel and my mom has and still owns a 2000 dodge with the 5.9 v8 and affectionately calls the truck "ruby"
I miss Bill Paxton he was one of my favorites died way too soon .
Indeed.
If you watch the movie closely as I have been a tech for CDJR dealerships since 85. There are several trucks. The main hero truck 2500 club cab V10. Film trucks 1500 club cab 1500’s. I believe I worked on one of the film trucks. An employee at one of the parts where houses for Chrysler bought a red club cab 1500 4x4. It had a slipping transmission. I found at at 6 camera mounts under the truck. It had a new aftermarket drive line. When I pulled the transmission out it had aftermarket parts in it. You can tell it was used hard.
Indeed.
Lets not forget the other new Chrysler.
The blacked out jelly bean vans. Chrysler in the 90s had awesome vehicle styling.
True, I don't like most vans, but those did look pretty cool indeed 😉👍
It’s sad that as good as they looked in black, they were never offered as black from the factory!
@@dodgeguyz Black was available for second gen Rams, what made you think it wasn't?
@@CarStarz42
I was talking about the minivans.
@@dodgeguyz Ah, ok. Interesting, you'd think black would be a basic color option for most any vehicle.
Twister made me love the Ram. In 2015 I was in outside sales for a large industrial company. All of their company vehicles were Ram 1500s. They leased them for $250 a month and after 2 years sold them and got new ones. In my 7.5 years there I had 3 of them. They were great. I beat them to death. Many, many times going full throttle, carrying pallets of water a lot (which is over 2,000 lbs and well over that trucks limit). Other times carrying nearly 1,000 pounds of fasteners. Never once had an issue.
Nice, sounds Ram tough indeed 😉👍
First time I drove a Ram pickup it was to help tow another vehicle. It wasn't my personal truck. I was blown away with the towing capacity and that styling combined with it to make me a fan, ever since. I personally own a restomod Ford pickup, but I was influential in getting my younger brother to consider and then buy a Ram.
@@matthewmosier8439 😉👍
I remember when I was a kid my cousin worked somewhere that supplied food for the crew idk if he still has but he had signed pictures of the actors. What I always thought strange was where most film was filmed vs where the twin twisters was. That bridge is blacktop now. But it is interesting that you can still go and find the places after about 30 years later. I remember when the new style of dodge came out and my dad was thinking of getting one the pamphlets from the dealership had a red truck. But my dad got a black chevy. Lol funny the things you remember from something that people wouldn't think is important but car history is important and also car movie history.

The Revell Ram VTS could be found at a bunch of Ollie's stores last year being sold for $12. I grabbed 3 myself and kitbashed 2 of them to make a replica of my rusted out 1500 4x4 quad cab. Always wanted to do it but before Ollie's had them the prices were a little to much for me. Especially to go cutting up.
Nice deal there 😉👍

Cool and thanks 😉👍
My 1994 Ram 1500 was one of the best trucks I’ve ever owned!
Same here, minus the transmission/transfer case issues I had with my '94 anyways.
@CarStarz42 I have a 97 SST with a built transmission so it can handle abuse but I know stock they were basically made from Balsa wood
@@roadreapervideos7001 Yeah, the last time I had the transmission replaced in the' 94 I had I went with a built aftermarket one too and didn't have issues after that, wasn't cheap though of course.
@CarStarz42 of course it wouldn't be cheap, because where's the fun in that. Whenever I what this movie and Walker Texas Ranger I just think of those poor transmissions. Keep up the great work on the videos! Love them!
@@roadreapervideos7001 Lol, indeed and glad you enjoy them! Yeah I'm hoping to have the video I'm working on now out by the 4th holiday this week if I can. 😉👍
Nice job 👏 I've always had a soft spot for a square body crew cab dually like on the other research team. Ever since Cannonball Run lol
Lol, yeah that was a cool truck too and also "didn't fly well", lol!
Yes I had a 98 Dodge Ram truck 1500 just like this had it for 7 years great truck 😊😊
Cool, they are tough trucks, that's for sure 😉👍
I'm doing a Twister project with the Dodge Ram and Dorothy but toy size as a diorama! It's gonna be good as Dorothy will be flying! Its for when Twisters comes out this summer! I grew up with watching Twister over the years!
Note: As far as the fifth DOROTHY comes around in Twisters, the labels are pretty much the same but with some upgrades. The most recognizable upgrade is the lid is opened both sides by the button/ Remote controlled Kiernan Shipka's character pushes, kind of like what Jo (Helen Hunt) pressed in the original except the buttons are on the same side from Dorothy I-IV and Dorothy V. The button is by the DOROTHY sticker with the tornado saying Muskogee State College. We'll get a closer look once Twisters comes out and why Dorothy with its lineage made a return. Again that's what I've noticed. And there's no CC cameras on Dorothy V so far. And the barrel for Dorothy hasn't changed at all.
Interesting, will be interesting to see what they do with that in the new movie 😉👍
Really cool video. Twister was a pivotal movie of my youth in the 90’s
Thanks and cool 😉👍
My life as a young man was complete when I bought the 1997 version of this truck in black, a SLT Laramie Clubcab with the 5.2 liter. I’m surprised now to hear the engines HP ratings were so low however.
Yeah, seemed like decent power back then relatively to other trucks on the market anyways 😉👍
You could build Jo’s Jeep truck as a model kit, Revell sells a Honcho version of it and it’s currently in retail circulation.
Indeed, I'll eventually cover the Jeep too, but I'm still going through first rounds of my massive to do list, so secondary vehicles are probably still years out at this point. Got so much to do and am happy to be able to resume doing videos again 😉👍
I love this movie! favorite movie of all time since I was 3-5! Amazing video.

Glad to see you see you back! One of my favorite channels!
Thanks and glad you like them 👍
Just 4-days ago I watched Twister (on DVD) for the first time since probably 1996. For my own taste, it is way too "Hollywood" and unrealistic, so I don't really care for it, but I am a fan of RAM trucks and I own 2 of them, a 2005 2500 Cummins and a 2016 2500 6.4 HEMI. I do like the nice brand-new Dodge truck/trucks they used in the film. And even that dually Chevy Suburban (not shown in this video) was pretty neat. My reason for this comment is more to give props to "Big Brother" and the algorithm for suggesting this video to me, since I DID NOT go looking for anything regarding the movie nor the vehicles of the movie! And this video has only been out for 3-days longer than my revisit to the movie. Pretty incredible.
Understandable and that's cool. I've had a '94 Ram and '16 Ram so far and loved them both too 😉👍
Yeah the algorithm seems to "brain tap" like that quite often to the point of being spooky, lol!
My favorite tidbit is how the airbag warning light was on in the scene where Jo looks over and scoffs that he's not going fast enough. He relents and stomps the accelerator, where they show a brief shot of the instrument cluster as the truck gains speed. There might be a different practical reason for the light being on, but as someone familiar with 1990s Chrysler electrics, airbag faults were extremely common. So I always took it as an error left in the film, and a not-so-nice indicator of Chrysler quality.
Yeah, they probably purposely disabled the airbag so it wouldn't go off during stunts and such and also in the trucks they sectioned for special effects and or interior scenes😉
That was way more interesting than I'd thought it'd be for a mass produced, high selling, unmodified pick up.
Indeed a tough and good truck for the most part, my '94 sure survived a lot too 😉👍
I remember seeing this movie in the theaters, came out and the sky was black from a severe thunderstorm in the area at the time. I can't recall if it dropped a tornado but there was localized flooding because the rain came down at the same time as a mean high tide.
As for the trucks getting harder to come by, makes sense because the second gen is starting to push 30 years, and that gen dodge always seemed to rust out on the cab corners, foot wells, and fenders. Plus the usual dodge front end falling off issues.
Interesting and yes they are and don't forget about the lovely dash disintegration feature, lol!
So, the 12V was just too badass for the movie.
Apparently so 😉
I'm miss this truck from the movie
Yeah, it's a quite cool style for a pickup 😉👍
Glad you are back. Too much weirdness on that other platform for me to have gone there...

Thanks and glad to hear you're such a fan 😉👍
Walker Texas Ranger and Twister really turned me on to these trucks!! I like the 98 to 2002 though for the extended cab doors.
😉👍
The house scene was probably my first experience with continuity errors in movies, with it entering and exiting the first floor, despite driving up stairs.
Lol
There was a scene in the movie when Bill suddenly stops and takes a side road, this was just before the waterspout scene. There was an external camera mounted pointing at the front wheel and you can hear the truck go into reverse, what engine were we hearing in the clip? I always thought it sounded like a diesel.
As mentioned in the video, only V8s and V10s were used, but V8 sounds were dubbed in over all for the Ram. The diesel engine powered truck, didn't make it into the film, at least not with the diesel engine in it anyway.
@@CarStarz42 Yeh ok cool just wanted to check as I wasn’t sure.
2:15 the fact that they pulled the mighty 12V Cummins for a V10 is horrible
Lol, indeed a downgrade in most ways, but they had to do what they had to do I suppose.
The V10 was more powerful.
@@CarStarz42 I'm a diesel guy and the 12V still holds its own against modern diesels. 🤣🤣

Definitely not getting $30k for mine it was a Sheriff's Personal Response Truck and then as my POV for the Fire Department, it responded to over 600 calls over the course of 5 years.
Some of those were Direct on scene or I responded to crashes that happened in front of me or very nearly when I was on the road.
Its an absolute beast of a truck with a very bullet proof easy to work on Magnum Small Block engine, the predecessor to the LA 318 which I also have in my 1978 Dodge Ramcharger, it has over 96k miles on its thousands odometer, which broke 26 years ago its been across the US fro CA to NC 4 times, still going strong.
Fun family fact I was Born in May my Dad in March, his Ramcharger date code is for May my date code on my Ram is for March. Two vehicles bought over different times.

Iv always loved the Rams and ford pickup trucks my aunt had 1997 dodge Decoda when I saw the movie twister as a kid in the 90s it reminded me of the movie, and she still drives ram trucks Today and now I drive 22 1500 classic 4x4 and yes i want the 2500 someday on a trade in
😉👍
Like the movie but accuracy is a little fuzzy. For example, at the start, they mention an F5 tornado in the late 60's... the F scale didn't come in until the 70's. That Dodge did take a beating! I figured they had many. Nice to see you back!
Thanks and true 😉
Man, I grew up with this movie and Bill's truck is one of my dream cars. However, I wouldn't touch a Chrysler made after 2010.
Cool 😉👍
Twister and bill Paxton and Helen Hunt and the original cast members I was in love with twister and the red dodge ram pick up truck
I think we're going in!!!!
That's my future dream pick up truck BP
