    #Dyson #AirPurifiers
    The selection of Dyson air purifiers can be broken down into a 4 different model families that range in size and features. For the sake of simplicity, you can think about the Dyson naming convention using the key below.
    BP Series = Body Cooling Air Purifiers: This series only includes the Dyson Pure Cool Me BP01 air purifier and is the newest purifier to his the market from Dyson. It’s small and designed purifier in a small space.
    TP Series = Tower Cooling Air Purifiers: This series includes the Dyson Pure Cool TP01, TP02, and TP04. These are tall, tower-style cooling air purifiers that use the Pure Cool Dyson technology to deliver cooled purifier air to large spaces.
    DP Series = Desk Cooling Air Purifiers: This series includes the Pure Cool DP01, DP02, DP03, and DP04. These models are cooling air purifiers designed to sit on your desk or tabletop. They use the Pure Cool Dyson technology and can have a round or oval amp, depending on the model.
    HP Series = Heating Air Purifiers: This series includes the HP01, HP02, and HP04. These purifiers are more compact, like the DP series, but larger than the BP series. In addition, they have both heating and cooling capabilities.
    The design of Dyson air purifiers have a few common elements between all models. These elements are generally consistent across all Dyson models and makes up some of the notable features that makes a Dyson a Dyson.
    Some of these design elements include:
    1. Bladeless Airflow Movement
    All Dyson air purifiers are bladeless.
    What’s that mean?
    As mentioned above, they have an amp that treats the air as it flows through. The bladeless design is easier to clean and can wiped down with a dry or damp cloth.
    2. Quiet Operation
    The bladeless design also allows for quieter operation.
    Dyson Pure Cool TP04 air intake
    Dyson Pure Cool TP04 air intake
    Traditional fans vs. Dyson purifiers:
    Traditional fans make noise by constantly “chopping” the air as they rotate. In terms of air purifiers specifically, the rotating fans may be less relevant, as most purifiers do not double as fans, but its feels worth mentioning.
    3. Dual Purpose: Purifier + Fan
    Dyson air purifiers all double as fans providing dual purpose within a single unit. This is unusual for most other air purifiers outside of the Dyson lineup.
    In addition to operating as a fan and a purifier, they also they also have the added bonus of offering models with heating and cooling (like the HP series) or just cooling only (like the TP series, DP series, or BP series).
    4. App Control (via Dyson Link)
    Dyson Link technology is what makes your fan accessible from your smartphone.
    NOTE: It’s important to note than not all Dyson purifiers are compatible with app control, but all purifiers that ARE, rely on the Dyson Link app as the central control hub.
    Using the Link app, Dyson air purifiers are able to sense and report stats about the air quality in the room. When conditions dip below a certain level, the system will automatically turn on and the purifier will begin to treat the air.
    For reference, the Dyson Link app allows the following quick functions:
    Purifier Activity - Monitors air quality and recommends action with needed.
    Filter Life - Studies the quality of the filter and will let you know when it’s time to replace.
    Remote Control - Allows you to remotely control the air purifier without touching the actual unit.

    The problem with the Dyson Hot & Cool is that it has a fundamental flaw which Dyson does not seem to know how to fix. I bought one of these and after about 4 months use it developed a high pitched whining noise (rather irritating). Since it was under a 2 year warranty, I had it returned to Dyson and after some hassle, Dyson sent me a replacement, which I’ve been using now for about 3 months and it too has developed the same high pitched whining noise problem. Clearly this product is unreliable and it has been more trouble than it’s worth. Since there is still time left on the 2 year warranty, I shall return it to Dyson, to decide what they intend to do about it. I have lost all faith in this company and regret having bought it. Disappointing. I hope that Dyson just gives me a refund, rather than send me yet another one which will start to whine after about 3 months..... and then what ? Send it back to them again ?

    I'm looking for a bladeless fan with air purifier to help cool my room. In regards to the fan power, is the TP02/TP04 more powerful or reach a farther distance than the DP04 or are they similar?

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  Před 4 lety +1

      They are all fairly similar.
      Here's their air flow:
      TP04 - 361 liters / sec
      TP02 - 410 liters / sec
      DP04 - 419 liters / sec
      All have high air flow. It really is more of an aesthetic choice than a performance choice.

    I just want to mention that i bought a tp04 2 weeks ago and there is annoying motor whine that i have been experiencing. Doing some research online, many others have reported this issue...dyson needs to fix this or redesign the whole appliance.

      @@ModernCastle i have informed dyson about it. They are very friendly and quick to reply and do admit that the motor whine is present. Mentioned that their engineers have tried using caulking or some sort of weatherstripping to reduce the noise. I still have 15 days to return mine to bestbuy but quite dissapointed that a 500 usd appliance is not perfect. I think you will eventually hear the whine yourself. Leave the fan on in your office at level 2 or 3. You will eventually hear an intermittent squeal that sounds like ball bearings are whack...my unit has a build date of april 2019.

      If you do decide to return it you might consider the Rabbit Air MinusA2. You can see our review here - moderncastle.com/rabbit-air-minusa2-review/
      It performed a little better than the TP04, while still having all the great smart features and usability that makes the Pure Cool great.

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  Před 5 lety

      @hail2030 I would say they are equivalent.
      But first, I should clarify, I have only tested the Dyson TP04 and TP02. That said, the TP04 seems to be built on the exact same purification technology as the DP04, so I would expect them to be more or less than same.
      In our tests the TP04 reduced PM2.5 and PM10 to 0.2.
      In our tests the Rabbit Air MinusA2 reduced PM2.5 and PM10 to 0.1.
      MinusA2 was slightly better, but in my view, they are effectively the same.
      Both MinusA2 and DP04 have the same smart features, so the same there. As far as the design goes, I think it's a personal choice.
      For my money, I would probably get the DP04. Costs less, still looks pretty cool, has all the same usability features, and performance is basically identical.
      Lastly, a few final disclosures: Dyson nor Rabbit Air sponsors me or Modern Castle. Modern Castle purchased the Dyson TP04 we tested. Rabbit Air did give us a free MinusA2 that we tested.
      Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks!

    thank you so very much for your very informative and straight forward video! I was wondering if you could give a review for the new dyson HP06 model, and does it filter the coronavirus (0.08-0.15 microns)? Could you do a comparison between hp06, philips ac5000i series, iqair healthproplus 250, perfect 16, and b mola bm100?

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  Před 4 lety +4

      We haven't tested the HP06 yet, but I will add it and these others to our list.
      Regarding its ability to filter coronavirus. As I understand it, most virus are able to be airborne because they attach themselves to other lighter than air objects (dust, pet dander, pollen, etc.). Air purifiers remove those lighter than air objects from the air, and therefore remove the virus, bacteria, etc. So in that way, yes, it's able to filter viruses.
      Please let me know if you have any other questions.

    • @sakenu16
      @sakenu16 Před 5 lety +2

      HP04 seems to have a carbon filter in addition to the HEPA filter. So I would assume this is better at purifying air.

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  Před 5 lety +4

      HP04 has both HEPA filter and carbon filter. HP04 also has 55% stronger airflow, meaning it can cover much larger square footage spaces. HP04 has a smaller footprint, due to the verticle design.
      HP02 only has HEPA filter, has air flow of 200 liters / second, and uses the wider amplifier.
      These are the primary differences.

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  Před 3 lety

      Definitely
      TP04 (in addition to virtually all air purifiers) work by pumping air through a filter. Particulates that were previously floating in the air that you were likely to breath in are now captured within the filter.
      Less particulates for you to breath in means less irritation to your lungs and allergies.

    If i get Tp04 , and dont want the cooling feature ,just want it to purify and circulate the air , specially in the winter, will it be a good choice?
    Thank you for your great review !

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  Před 3 lety

      When Dyson says that it "cools" they mean it's a fan. But it's that fan that drives the air flow for the purifier. So you will always need the fan on at some level in order to purify air.
      However, you can change the direction through the purifier, that way it won't blow on you or out into the room. You can blow it onto a wall.
      In any case, yes, it's still a good choice for winter or really any season. You have more control over the air flow than with most other air purifiers.

  • @MrKlawUK
    @MrKlawUK Před 4 lety +1

    great review. Kinda surprised the tower versions are so low to the ground. For a living room it feels like I’d need to put them on a riser/box to be able to blow over the backs of sofas. If I’m going to do that, maybe the tower versions aren’t as necessary and the DP would be ok? Also surprised the TP04 has lower air flow than DP04 and TP02. I guess limitations due to the additional filtering. Does the Tower form factor do better for distribution with height to help ‘feel’ more air vs absolute air flow measurement?

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  Před 4 lety +1

      I would say the purification power gained via more air flow at a higher or lower point is relatively unimportant. It really is more of an aesthetic choice than a more functional difference.
      Now, in terms of air flow actually going through the unit due to the motor power, that is going to play a much better factor...so in that respect the DP04 can handle more than the TP04 in terms of room size.
      Now, if "feeling the air" is an important component to you, then yes, in that case the TP04 is a nice choice because it does have a wider "cone" of air that blows in your direction (if that makes sense).

    • @MrKlawUK
      @MrKlawUK Před 4 lety

      Modern Castle thanks - makes complete sense. for the living room, some sense of feeling the air is important. the TP04 does seem a little short - we’re used to old pedestal fans so they’d blow over the tops of our sofas. that’s why we were thinking the dp04 and put it on a table. but a broader/taller airstream sounds good.

    • @ModernCastle

    For the air quality testing, what order did you do the testing? Can't really say one reduced more % particulates if the baseline was different. Looks like you tested the TP04 when the room was most dirty and the TP02 after when the room was already less dirty when the TP04 cleaned up

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  Před 3 lety +1

      There was no order. We tested these over a series of many weeks and months.
      I agree, don't use the percentage reduction to make your judgement on which is best for your home. We include that more as a directional indicator of performance, but in our view, the most important metric is how low a purifier is able to get in terms of PM2.5 and PM10.

    I'm in doubt between DP04, TP04 and HP04. I want a purifier that serves me as a fan in the summer; I guess DP04 would be better as it's got more air flow? The ability to heat of the HP04 would be a plus, but it's secondary.

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  Před 4 lety +1

      That's interesting that Dyson said that regarding the air flow.
      To clarify, our air flow metrics were taken from Dyson.com in 2019. At some point, Dyson removed the data from their website...so really not sure why they would do that.
      In any case, I think you're pretty hard pressed to go wrong with any of these models. The DP04 based on our experiences and the data Dyson used to provide has higher air flow. But as you say, if you live in a cold place the ability to heat via the HP04 is a really nice addition. Could save you money on larger heaters if you only need heat in 1 room or an area of 1 room.

    Hi! For the Dyson HP04, is it possible to fix an angle of oscillation manually ? Like if I wanna lock the oscillation at 67 degrees ?
    Plus, is it possible to set the oscillation for example between 35 and 86 degrees ?
    Thanks a lot !

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  Před 4 lety

      Yes, you can manually place it in a preferred position and then just turn auto oscillation off.
      You can set a range of oscillation, but it's not quite that precise. It's standard increments...45, 90, 180, etc. Note that you need the app to do so.

      It can definitely replace a fan. It's not an AC, but it has more than enough air flow to act as a good fan.

    We just got hit with a bunch of smoke from the wildfires in OR. Will the TP02 be a good option or do I need to go with the 04?

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  Před 3 lety +1

      TP02 would be perfectly fine. It's air flow per minute is nearly the same as the 04.
      I'd save the money and get the TP02, here's the link - amzn.to/2ZJK4I0
      I would suggest you go ahead and buy extra filters. Many places seem to be going out of stock quickly. Another CZcams commentor in your region said that their HEPA filters went black almost immediately due to the smoke.
      You can find replacement filters here - amzn.to/35HuYX4

      Modern Castle thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly! Would the activated carbon filter be of any benefit?

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  Před 3 lety

      @@GoodcoStudios It would help, but carbon filters are more for smells and VOCs. Not to say that there isn't a smell due to the smoke...but the quantity of particulates generated by the wildfire is such that the carbon filters are going to have very little impact on that level of smell.
      As a result, I think the TP02 is the better choice.

    Need help! I bought the HP04 Dyson purifier and discovered that I’m not able to manage the heater from the app. I had no idea prior to buying. I do however understand it is a government regulatory thing that prevents Dyson from allowing consumers to do this. Is there any way I can bypass this? Thanks

    Really love the TP04 but having motor issues on my first unit. The only one Best Buy has in stock is the DP04. I don’t see how the DP04 can purify better with a smaller top for the fan output, or how it’s more powerful. I’d be using this from 150 to 350 square foot rooms. Does it matter which one I should get? Or should I just wait for the TP04 to get back in stock? I’ve heard the DP04 is more for desk use and the TP04 is a better purifier despite them using the same filter. Then hear the DP04 has better output. So, super confusing..

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  Před 4 lety

      According to Dyson the DP04 does indeed have higher airflow output.
      The portion on the top isn't really a fan...it's better to think of it as a funnel for air. The motor that is driving that air flow through the funnel in the base of the unit is what's creating all of the power. So don't let the relative size of the fan deceive you.
      If I were you I'd just get the DP04. In terms of performance, it's basically the same (if not a little better) than the TP04. The only reason I'd wait is if you just don't like the aesthetics of it.
      In any case, both the TP04 and DP04 could easily handle your square footage. So no issues there.

    • @Tripleh3lix20
      @Tripleh3lix20 Před 4 lety

      Modern Castle I saw that the performance on your review was slightly lower for the DP04 with particle only going down to 29 from 359 baseline, whereas the TP04 went down to 14 with 599 particles at baseline. Is that a really big difference ?
      Also last question - How far does this thing tilt, enough to hit the roof? I like using my other purifier it to disperse the air throughout the room from the top, as it feels nicer to me.

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  Před 4 lety

      @@Tripleh3lix20 The difference between 29 and 14 particles is negligible in my view. Anything inside of a 50 PPM is incredibly good. Both are an AQI of 0.
      The tilt isn't that extreme, only maybe 15 degrees, so you cannot angle it to the ceiling.

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  Před 4 lety

      Yes, you can reduce the air flow. But you still need some air flow going through it for the purifier to function.
      However, you can send it through the back of the unit, so that it won't blow on you.

      Most likely no.

    Hi Derek, you did an excellent job on those Dyson products, but how about Dyson Tp06 model?

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  Před 4 lety +1

      We haven't tested the TP06 yet, but we did put up some initial research thoughts on the specs here - moderncastle.com/dyson-pure-cool-cryptomic-tp06-review/
      To sum it up...TP06 is a TP04 that also is able to remove formaldehyde. Air flow, specs, form factor, usability, etc. are all the same otherwise.
      If your home has high formaldehyde levels, get the TP06. If not, save the money and get a TP04 or DP04.
