    I watched this video again recently and want to make two corrections:
    1. In this video I use the term “airflow” very loosely. I say that Dysons have “high airflow”, meaning that they move a lot of filtered AND unfiltered air.
    In all of my other videos I use the term “airflow” differently. I define airflow as the volume of air an air purifier can process - through its filters - per unit time (CFM). According to this definition, Dysons do not have high airflow because they only pull up to 100 CFM of air through their filters each minute.
    It would have been better for me to simply say Dysons move a lot of air - i.e. they work well as fans - instead of saying they have “high airflow”.
    2. In this video I incorrectly talk about the speed of the air multiplying when describing air multiplier technology.
    Instead, I should have talked about the volume of air multiplying when describing this technology.
    The movement of air through the groove inside the top hoop of the air purifier creates an area of low pressure which pulls air from behind the hoop, through the hoop. This multiplies the volume of (mostly unfiltered) air through the hoop. This is air multiplier technology. It has nothing to do with the speed of the air.

    If you’ve never used an air filter these are great. czcams.com/users/postUgkx_dppjvjF8BYEmPSDTcgCUdRsgWYLXNHN I ended up with three after starting out with one. The noise level depends on the 1-3 settings with how hard you want the machine to work. You can also upgrade the filters and get one better for pet hair and smells which is a must have in my home. I noticed the air seemed lighter and easier to breathe when running the machine for the first time. Works great every time. Highly recommended!

      Almost any air purifier creates noise, this creates a lot of noise on max speed, but not more noise then large air purifiers and the noise is negligible compared to a box fan. Again you do not buy this product to clean air, it cleans the air and is a fan/heater.

    Hi there, just to provide further insight. The air multiplier technology also creates a low air pressure pocket in the middle of the ring with the accelerated air and and wing inspired design. Whilst this doesn’t help improve the CFM processed it does help circulate the air, improving fan performance and helping it with larger rooms than many competing filters.

    • @consumer-analysis
      @consumer-analysis  Před 4 lety +17

      Thank you for your additional insight into how the air multiplier technology works. However, I do have to disagree with you on your point about greater air circulation resulting in better air purification performance. My testing showed that while this theory sounds reasonable (I thought the same as you about air circulation and air purification performance before testing), it doesn't pan out this way in the real world. Most particles are small enough so that they will easily move to areas of low concentration without requiring any physical movement of air. I tested the same air purifier multiple times in the same large room and no matter if I placed it in the center or edges of the room it would lower particle concentration at the same rate. I also tested multiple other air purifiers in the same room, each with a different exhaust air speed and different exhaust orientation. These tests showed no correlation between exhaust air speed or the direction of the exhaust air and the rate at which these units could lower particle concentration in the room. The only variable that mattered was CFM.

    1. Add the product serial number into the app.

      Consumer Analysis - I hear this a lot but it seems to also be determined by your air quality goals and what issues you’re dealing with. In our case, our home is approximately 1500 sf, two story. Generally the widows are closed and HVAC is running. We placed one Dyson upstairs and one Dyson downstairs. We can watch the air quality vary over time. The single biggest negative impact seems to come from extended use of our Airfryer. Cooking sausage, which takes about 25 minutes if the Airfryer is fully loaded, can take the air quality number up to 999 (the highest number the Dyson unit will report, it’s probably higher) I was a little surprised to find the air quality number upstairs also spikes at about the same number, only slightly delayed and slightly lower number. Both units report back to “green” levels within an hour or so. During this time we don’t “notice” any degradation in air quality (Dyson registers “purple” like EVACUATE IMMEDIATELY!!! 😄 I’m sure a higher CFM unit would take less time but the Dysons will, eventually, get the job done. Unless your breathing sensitivities are such that you can’t tolerate occasional spikes that may take a bit to clear (or your environment is constantly creating significant air quality issues (like a commercial kitchen) I think limiting the application of a Dyson to 150sf room is very misleading. Yes, they are pricy but they work well (for our situation) and provide fan function we require without having multiple devices running all over the house. A plus, for us

    • @Bound4Earth
      @Bound4Earth Před 3 lety +1

      @@kbuzbee Purple doesn't mean abandon all hope and run away. I smoke myself and one cigarette can make it run from 20-40 up to 300. That isn't great for your lungs but far from EVACUATE IMMEDIATELY DEATH IMPENDING. I get that you implied this is the way Dyson portrays it, but they aren't wrong. If your air quality stayed in the severe 300 plus range overtime that would be bad. But even without an air filter even cigarette smoke dissipates, it just takes longer. I think their rating are more than adequate.
      I also agree with you finding that this can filter a much larger room or space then most channels portray. To pretend that CFM alone equates to room size ignores circumstances. What is constantly going into the air that needs to be filtered 24/7 and if that is the case, perhaps you should consider a home air purifier as no stand alone solution would be adequate enough. Math involves context to put it into perspective and that is what most of these channels ignore. They just look at room filtered this many times an hour. Most people don't want a lout air filter running all the time and this is another benfit to Dyson as it can run in auto mode another ignored feature.
      Dyson is not for everyone. I wouldn't even recommended the simple fan filter for most people, but if it has features you can or will use to include the expanded hot feature, it is beyond priceless and destroys cheap options. Especially the heating feature as the risk of fire is near non-existant because no dust particles can reach the heating element like all cheap space heaters and ignite.
      Channels like this have their place. I just think they are overvalued as they look at numbers alone without context.

      Also the air multiplier is just a simple trick of funneling air through a smaller space, increasing its speed but in turn reducing the surface area air is released through, it doesn’t necessarily change the amount of air or “time” you mentioned... but still what do I know
      Yeah, I’m right. He explains this mid video when discussing CFM (cubic feet of air processed each minute). Lol basic physics.

    • @consumer-analysis

      The 290 l/s number refers to the air it "pulls/pushes" through the top hoop (how much air its moving as a fan). 100 CFM refers to the air it processes through its filters (how much air it purifies).

      It could be that the inherent design of the Dyson "Air Multiplier" actually pulls more air through the "hoop" than it is pulling through the intake filter. Therefore, it "moves" much more air than it actually filters. Not a bad thing, just the way it works.

      The airflow over the ring creates low pressure thanks to Bernoulli effect. Since the low pressure is in a big circle, it creates a creates a tube of air with a big low pressure area. • @brianbellaplaygames
    @brianbellaplaygames Před 4 lety +20

    CADR was first introduced in 1980s, which stands for Clean Air Delivery Rate. This test measures the clean air volume that a purifier can provide in fixed amount time, and it is a measurement of speed. It doesn’t measure filtration quality or focus on how well a purifier captures smaller particle sizes. In real homes, filtration quality matters. If particles aren’t captured the first time, they are released back into the room. An air purifier with a high CADR rating does not necessarily imply that it is doing a better job of purifying your room properly; it may in fact be throwing a lot of the pollutants back into the air in your home- when particles travel at high speed through the filter, it can bypass the filter and go back into the room. And also, it might not be projecting clean air around the whole room.

    Dyson uses an updated version of testing called POLAR.
    POLAR test lab is based on a larger room size of 27m2 (290 sq ft), with no added ceiling fan as we don’t use fans in peak pollution winter season in India. The air purifier is placed in corner of the room which replicates how it is used in real homes and pollution is pumped in the other corner. The test uses eight sensors in the corners of the room and one sensor in the centre, detecting particles of indoor air pollution that are 300 times narrower than a human hair. All machines are tested using their automatic pollution detection function as most consumers are not able to detect air pollution and just want to set their machine to automatically deal with any issues. The new testing method assesses the ability of machines to remove harmful particles and gases, the uniformity of the cleaning performance delivered around the whole room, and airflow projection. It starts when the machine thinks the room is polluted, and ends when the machine thinks it is clean. Analyzing the data across all nine sensors lets Dyson engineers ensure that our air purifiers are engineered for proper purification including efficient filtration and air projection, not simply for coverage time.
    Also Dyson's filters are certified by the Asthma and Allergy Relief Foundation of America. No other competitors spend money on that testing because they will fail due to their cheaper filter material.

The ionization can easily be turned off and left off with either unit. The truth is that you really don't need a $1,000 budget for a quality air purifier. You only need a larger budget if you want an air purifier optimized for gas filtration. You description of the Air Multiplier technology is incorrect.
    The small amount of filter air that is forced through the slit around the ring causes a low pressure area which sucks in more air from behind the unit through the hoop.
    What this means is that the air coming from the device is not fully purified, some come from the filter and the majority comes from the back of the unit being sucked though by the air multiplier. Hence the low throughput.

What Dyson does, in my opinion, is increase mixing and therefore perhaps avoid reprocessing the same cleaned air. I'm not an engineer but efficiency may not just be directly proportional to the amount of air drawn through if the same air is just reprocessed. That's just my logic for the design and the increased velocity and oscillation would be intresting to test the actual cleaning capacity of a fixed volume in a domestic setting with plenty of obstacles to flow.

    Before buying my Dyson, I watched this video (or one like it) and bought a cheaper air purifier. Here's how I came to regret that purchase, and ultimately bought a Dyson. I had a more traditional large purifier and switched to a Dyson. I noticed how over time, the Dyson seemed to make the whole room a *bit* cleaner. The previous unit I had just made half the room very clean. Yes, Dyson's specs are not technically as impressive, but the unit works better. It smartly moves air around, rather than just looping the same air back around the filter and killing the motor...
    For example: My Dyson would pick up the smell of a steak from the other side of the room instantaneously, loudly blast the smell out of the apartment entirely within 5 minutes, and then continue filtering for another 30-45 minutes, providing sensor data on its display as it did so. The other filter (which was a good brand) picked up the smell after 5 minutes, worked hard for about 5 minutes, and then stopped. It only actually cleaned the smell from half the air in the apartment.
    Technically the air purifier had better specs, but its motor crapped out after the 2 year warranty period, because I forgot to replace the filter, and it frankly overused the filter for the environment. The Dyson, by contrast, often keeps its fan off, but occasionally lances bad air from around the apartment using that jet effect, keeping things moving just enough to keep it just clean enough. It tells you when the filter needs replacing, which prevents undue stress on the motor. It collects dust better too. An absolute life-saver during the Australian bush fires, it did a great job of keeping the entire place free from smoke.
    It doesn't keep things clinically clean for no purpose, it just does a nice job of creating a nice environment in a sustainable way. It also doubles as my clothes dryer (I just point it at the drying rack with the heat function on for 30 minutes), and a nice fan - it's been a much better, much greener, much longer lasting purchase than a dumb single use appliance that craps out when you lose interest in it.

So i m guessing that the dyson only made your room cleaner by pushing the dirt that disappeared from your room in the corners.

    Dyson sent me an HP04 in a plain box, missing remote, no padding whatsoever. It was scratched up and the box was badly damaged. They said it would be 7-10 business days for a replacement because they're out of stock and 15-21 days for a refund. For $650.00 you would think they would care about their product enough to at least pack it with more than just 1 layer of thin cardboard for protection. Some air packs, anything. If they don't care about their products, why should I?
    Needless to say, I opted for a replacement which turned into a refund because I simply couldn't wait that long. I bought 2 Winix air 5500-2s, one for me and one for my mom. It was still half the price of that one Dyson.
    My experience with Dyson has just been an all around nightmare. Save yourself the hassle.

    I'm so late to this video it doesn't matter what I say but he is saying that this model represents all dyson fan/purifies basically but the tp04 did almost as good in some test and better in some in real world testing against the honeywell hpa300 which this person gave a 320 CFM rating and the dyson he give 100-150. If that was true how did it beat the honeywell in some of the test go watch vacuum wars review if you want to actually see the results. I would of been ok and never made a comment if this guy stuck to saying that these results only pertain to this model but no he grouped them all together without any testing of other models

      @BedboundME Před rokem

      @@j.ballsdeep420 there’s a measure, CADR, used to say how many times it can clean a room in one hour. If like me you are hoping to avoid spread of infections, Dyson does this less than good air purifiers that solely do that job, in my understanding.

  • @nomad1517
    @nomad1517 Před 3 lety +1

    Dyson uses the POLAR system. It's supposed to be way more accurate than cadr, but we have to trust them since they invented it. They don't care about how fast the purifier purified, they care about how well it purifies. Purifiers aren't supposed to get rid of smoke, that is what your HVAC system is for. Although Dyson purifiers can definitely get rid of smoke and everything else, the filtration focuses on ultra fine particles HVAC systems can't get, particles that cause premature death, asthma attacks, etc. Does that mean Dyson is better? Can't really say, one company that produces air purifiers in china to help people who can't afford expensive air purifiers and educate others on misleading claims, etc called smartair, had an article about dysons opinion on CADR. To summarize, Dyson had a couple of things wrong. So it's up for you to decide. I own a tp01, I truly enjoyed it. I'm gonna switch to a Honeywell insight, just for filter affordability and the auto feature. But I honestly can say it was a good product.

    I was searching for reviews for the Dyson Hot+cool purifier that I got just a couple of days ago. I was surprised that it wasn’t cleaning air fast enough and wouldn’t dip below “very poor” to “poor” Air Quality Index. You’ve explained it very well, sir. I may now end up returning this as for approx the equivalent of US $675 that I paid for it in India, I can get 5 Xiaomi Mi 3 purifiers and put them in almost every room of my house or more than one in one room. Clearly from a value standpoint, the Dyson just isn’t worth it. It’s CADR is too low and as a result the time taken is too high and the extent to which it can purify air is too low. Overall a bad purchase. Thank you for bringing the truth out. I can vouch for the validity of your claims as this is exactly what I’ve experienced.

    • @nipunsharma5351
      @nipunsharma5351 Před 3 lety +2

      Also, if anyone still wants to buy the Hot+Cool model, it does work well as a room heater. The air circulation is good for spreading warm air evenly all over the room. Think of it as a room heater first, and an air purifier second. From this point of view it can make sense. But again you can buy both of those separately and still save money. Remember with the Dyson we’re having to pay for the social media influencers and celebrities that are roped in to advertise for it. The price in this case doesn’t truly reflect the quality of the product. This once, you don’t actually get what you pay for.

    A couple of things to point out:
    This is Not an air purifier. The problem with every single review is that these dyson Fans are compared to air purifier only. It is a freaking fan and air purifier. Unfortunately there's nothing in the market to compare to.
    My wife and son like to sleep with fans on in the room,they like both the noise and constant air and there are many people in the same situation,fir years we had ugly fans pointing at us blowing air at us, blowing clean air and also dust,hair, whatever is in the air. These dyson fans can do the same but they can filter the air that's blown towards us while keeping it self clean,not more taking apart dirty dusty parts and washing. Plus extremely safe around kids, can't tell you how stressful it is to have little kids in the house walking by a regular fan that's running and the first thing in your head is, please stay away, don't stick your fingers in there !!
    If you are looking for air purifier only this is not fie you. If you want an elegant modern fan,that can clean the air that's blown towards you plus it is safe around kids since they don't have moving parts then my friend Dyson is your only choice. And is not a bad one. They are expensive but they last a very long time.
    All these being said, they certainly can do better in price ,but why would they? Again they have no competition.

      @driftracing08 Před 2 lety

      I had a fan in my room when I was 4 and it have moving parts and it was safe unlike the ones with the huge gaps in the grill and the air quality of the dyson is not 100% clean due to that regular air moves through it with the filtered air at the same time and time has not been there yet to tell if these things will last along time and a dyson fan is no where near vornado
