  • In this video we review Dyson air purifiers. How much airflow do they really have? Are they really as bad of a value as they seem to be? We answer these questions and many more in this video.
    Note that this review applies to non-Cryptomic Purifier Cool models (TP07 and TP01) and the Cryptomic Purifier Cool Formaldehyde (TP09). It's also applicable for all Purifier Hot+Cool models (HP09, HP07, and HP02) and both Purifier Humidify+Cool models (PH04 and PH03).

    Having the carbon filter in front of the HEPA filter would be an awful idea. The only job for activated carbon is to absorb gases into the microscopic holes in the carbon. Putting it in front could easily clog those holes and negate the efficiency of the activated carbon. Dyson chose that order for a reason.

    • @Holy_Hobo
      @Holy_Hobo Před rokem +8

      Yeah I never understood this criticism and it bothers me how much he brings it up every video.
      I don't care about the minute longevity advantages having it in front would provide. I care about how well it filters overall, and for most people, toxic gasses are going to be a bigger issue than particles.
      Having it in front would like you said clog the filter faster, but it would also give less time and less of a chance for VOCs to get filtered out. Plus when exposed more, the carbon gets worn out faster.
      The pre filter should do a much better job of clearing out dust and particles than the carbon filter would, especially if it's a pellet based carbon filter that won't do anything for particles.
      It really should be quality washable pre-filter, maybe some cheapy replaceable filter-HEPA-carbon

    If you’ve never used an air filter these are great. czcams.com/users/postUgkx_dppjvjF8BYEmPSDTcgCUdRsgWYLXNHN I ended up with three after starting out with one. The noise level depends on the 1-3 settings with how hard you want the machine to work. You can also upgrade the filters and get one better for pet hair and smells which is a must have in my home. I noticed the air seemed lighter and easier to breathe when running the machine for the first time. Works great every time. Highly recommended!

    I was in the process of buying a new air purifier and was a bit surpriced about the claim that most of the air was bypassing the filter.
    I actually contacted Dyson about the claims of this video. They explicitly told me that all the air is getting pulled through the filter. The hole in the back is for when you don't want the fan to blow air at you, but to have it blow towards the back (They call it Diffuse Mode).
    So my question is, how did you came to your conclusion?
    Or is Dyson just flatout lying to me?
    I asked this question regarding the TP09 model.

    • @ClassicalJeff
      @ClassicalJeff Před 11 měsíci +3

      This was due to the testing methodology. If they had used the diffuse mode, there is no mixing of the purified air with the surrounding air as it would have been with the cooling mode (fan mode). I’d like to see updated numbers and testing under the diffuse mode as this is a more comparable setting to that of other air purifiers.

    • @AirPurificationEducation
      @AirPurificationEducation Před 6 měsíci +2

      If the Carbon filter is behind the HEPA filter then you will eventually get carbon particles in the air. The HEPA filter will catch any carbon particles when it is the last filter.
      The best air purifier manufacturers ALWAYS put the HEPA filter last:
      IQAir, Aeris/iRobot, Airpura (who are carbon experts), and even Austin Air.
      When I see a manufacturer put the carbon filter last it immediately tells me they don't really understand air purification.

I got taken in by words like "cool" in the marketing and "pure air". Now I'm stuck with a fan that requires £65 air filter replacements twice a year. They do indeed smell after a while and they also reduce the air flow once saturated. The only thing it has going for it is it's looks. Honestly for the level of cost involved with these units you're better off getting a whole HVAC system installed, air filtering is more efficient outside the house, filter in external air and extract internally polluted air.

    I just bought a Dyson BP04 this week and don't see how they say this is better . The Dyson BP04 says it delivers "23 gallons of airflow per second3 of purified air over 32 feet. So 23 x 60 (seconds) is 1380 Gallons per Min, and would mean that Dyson TP09 delivers more as their website says "77 Gallons per second" and that's 4620 gallons per min, and would cover 617.60 cubic feet. If it was all purified air.
    if your calculations to fill a 1500 square foot condo, and Dysons Bp04 only covers 1380 gallons per min thus only 184 cubic feet / min then I would need at least 6 of the new Dyson BP04 to cover a 1500 square foot condo.
    I think something is off, Dyson will not show their CADR rate for any of their purifiers, only saying X amount of gallons of air per second.
    I was thinking about returning the BP04 and for that same price of $1187 getting a Conway Airmega 400S and a couple Conway Airmega AP-1512HHS but i honestly don't know anymore.
    Conway displays their CDAR rating but does not share the amount of air in gallons per second so it is hard to compare between Dyson and other brands because of that.
    I don't understand how they can claim with the BP04 that its "New airflow delivery system offers more than double the airflow of previous models," if its only 23 gallons of purified air per second. If the TP09 is 77 gallons of air per second. That would mean the TP09 delivers only HALF of what the BP line does so that 77 gallons would go actuary towards a 11 gallons per second or 12 gallons per second of actual purified air.
    Suggestions? Should I return this Dyson BP04 and go with 1x Conway Airmega 400S and a couple Conway Airmega AP-1512HHS or what is best ???

      You should probably check out his video prior to this one: The Best Large Room Purifier… V2
      In that video, he states at the end that, though he usually recommends multiple 250 CFM rated machines for a large room, he is making an exception for the Medify MA-112 given its high CFM output.
      He also goes over the complications of purifying air for a large room, and what you should consider when you factor those in.
      Conway, as a brand though, is fine I’m sure, and I think you going with your plan of the big Conway in a big room with the other Conway AP-1512HHS in other rooms is an assured way to purify air throughout your condo.

    • @WooDeWow
      @WooDeWow Před 7 měsíci

      @@davidalesia6881 yeah true , and Dyson won’t even reply to my messages. When it comes to air purifiers there are 3 things that matter. CDAR, ACH, AND CFM, and Dyson has failed to provide me any of that information officially . Iv calculated it and Dyson is falsely advertising all of their air purifiers . This is a lawsuit waiting to happen . But yeah only thing I like is the display and the sensors, if Dyson just sold independently Air Quality Sensors that would be great . But their air purifier even this too if the line BP04 does not meet my expectations at all. I have a Dyson animal ball 3 vacuum, u can clearly see taking it apart how it is built differently to justify the $499 vacuum price , however there’s nothing from this BP04 that justifies $1187 after tax. It’s built like any other air purifier only with a co2 sensor and a Flormdyhde filter. That’s it. I had a Sensibo air purifier but it did not even react to my cologne or anything. It would only react to smoke from my vape or a certain watermelon fresh smelling air spray but nothing else . The BP04 reacts to everything from my colognes to literally any kind of sprays I spray in the vicinity of it, so it does a good job sensing. I’ll give Dyson that but the amount of room coverage for device that big is ridiculous. if they’re saying their new technology now does 23 gallons per second that’s 1380 gallons of purified air per min and 184 cubic feet per min CFW, per my calculations. WHICH is way less than 250 CFM for a large room: And their TPO9 claims it puts out 77 gallons per second , how ? If it’s not the new technology in the BP line so that would mean only 10-12 gallons per second on the TP09 is actually purified air coming out. Dyson full of lies and false advertising.

    ..top rated overall are not looking that nice to put them in your home, I would always go with something it looks better but maybe you need to wait longer to clean your air. All purifiers generate some air circulation inside your room pushing along with purified air also the uncleaned air, more or less depending the type. Good filters and nice look... if one clean your air in 30 min and the other in 1 hour it doesn't matter that much.
