    2:05 Humidification
    4:20 Fan
    7:20 Purification
    10:05 My overall thoughts
When you live in one of the driest places in Canada, you think about humidity. A lot. I’ve had dozens of humidifiers and diffusers too and while they help a bit, they rarely last. So when Dyson announced its new Dyson Pure Humidify+Cool, I was abnormally excited. This is Dyson’s first triple-function machine: it’s a fan, but it’s also engineered to automatically purify and hygienically humidify your whole room all year round. I had a chance to have one of these devices in my home for a few weeks to test it out and see what it does. Here’s what I learned.
While this is Dyson’s first triple function machine, it may also be its largest by far-it’s certainly the largest one I’ve ever had in my home. Standing a lanky three feet tall, it’s also almost a foot wide and weighs nearly 20 pounds empty, so this is a machine you are going to need to have a dedicated place on the floor for.
Let’s dig into each of the features…
    Dyson Humidification
The humidification feature is the biggie here. The Pure Humidify+Cool has a huge water tank in the base that holds 5 litres and is supposed to give you about 36 hours of humidification, depending on how high you have it set of course. I can definitely say that at the level I had mine set at, I was easily getting 3-4 days of use from it before needing to refill the tank.
The Dyson Pure Humidify+Cool has a built-in ability to hygienically humidify and purify a room. The device features a new “technology column” in the water tank that “uses UV-C light to kill bacteria in the water by denaturing their DNA so they can no longer multiply”. Dyson says a highly reflective PTFE tube reflects the UV-C light so water is exposed to multiple rays to kill 99.9% of bacteria in the water in the first pass.
    Dyson Cooling:
While running the humidifier generates a low breeze, you can crank up the cool if you need to.
The Dyson fan concept is unique; Dyson uses a bladeless model that takes in air, amplifies it and pushes it out along the front sides of the airflow loop. This is a bit different than other Dyson fans, where the airflow loop is continuous around the whole loop. On the rear side, however, there is a continuous airflow vent that allows for less direct airflow and a more breezy feel.
    Jet Axis Control:
Dyson says its ‘Jet Axis Control technology’ gives more independent control to the fan. Those two jets at each side of the air amplifier are independently controlled to provide direct cooling, oscillation mode, backwards airflow mode and new Breeze mode. So important to not here, the device controls them automatically, you don’t get to turn one on or off… During my testing I didn’t notice if one or the other was working more or less.
    o Breeze mode:
Fans can be really harsh and direct with the airflow. So Dyson says it’s engineering team tried to change things up to make the airflow more natural, like a gentle breeze.
    Dyson Purification
The other important function this device has is to purify the air. Dyson says a fully-sealed filter system captures 99.97% of air pollution as small as 0.3 microns. The Dyson Pure Humidify+Cool automatically detects particles and gases, as well as temperature and humidity levels and reports them in real time via the app. HEPA and activated carbon filtration captures gases and 99.97% of particle pollution.
    Overall review Dyson Pure Humidify+Cool
Overall I’m pretty happy with this machine. I really like the option of having a fan, and purifier plus the new humidify function all in one machine, since it means I’d need fewer devices in my home-it’s definitely multipurpose. It runs super quietly I enjoy the app control, and I really like the massive 5L water tank, which meant I wasn’t filling up a humidifier daily. And the fact it will self clear is a nice bonus.
Downsides? For me it’s the size and weight. This machine is big and needs space to operate so I’m limited on where I can place it. It also sticks out. I mean, it’s a Dyson so it looks kinda cool, but there’s no hiding it.
I know a lot of folks talk about Dyson machines being really expensive, and at $999CAD, this machine is definitely above average price for both fans, purifiers and humidifiers. The filters are also expensive at about $100 a pop.
Also, since winter is approaching, it would be nice if this machine also had a heating function like the Hot + Cool Link.
But overall, if you’ve been considering a purifier, humidifier and or a fan for your home to manage indoor air quality, the Dyson Pure Humidify+Cool is an all in one gadget that seems worth the price tag.

Thanks, Erin! I literally searched for this specific product 5 times in the last week. When I saw this video, I figured it was an old one from your channel and was wondering how I never found it before. And then I realized it was posted today! How timely for me. Thank you!
Update: I just finished watching the review and want to truly thank you for it. The information you're able to pack into a 12-minute video without making it seem long is quite amazing.

Thanks Erin..Have had this machine for nearly 8 months or so, not used it a great deal but recently it needed a deep clean, no issues conducting task, however, the deep clean took 2 days to complete, reading blogs it appears there is an issue here. I contacted Dyson, they responded in great time, they arranged pickup of machine and advised me 2 days later that they would send a brand new one due to issues with production etc. during this pandemic, the new one arrived today and is up and running. Although I am aware of most controls I always like to watch videos like yours just to update my knowledge and of which your review has so I thank you for that and have subscribed..gonna look for Dyson for bedroom now. Regards Bill fi Scotland

Dyson is great quality. I got a huge yellow vacuum back in 2006 I think and it is just like new. Due to the HEPA filter (washable) doing so much for my allergies and asthma in my vacuum I decided to get during Black Friday this year the Hot+Cool purifier. I agree I wish it also had the humidifier feature, and the new gas removal (formaldehyde and other dangerous stuff.) I can tell you that there is a difference, and my cat and I no longer are wheezing as much. I live where the wildfire smoke made it dangerous to even go outside for days, and my old purifier’s filters were blackened. I wonder how this new device filter will handle that smoke in summer? It is a lot quieter than the old purifier as Erin’s model was, and due to being hard of hearing the quieter background noise makes a huge difference to me.

Wow! Such an in depth, well-thought out, and greatly paced review!! Hit all the great points, explained every feature thoroughly, and great visuals. I have a Dyson Pure Hot+Cool model and I absolutely love it!! I agree adding the heating function to that machine, or the humidifiying aspect to my machine would be great. But I ultimately think price deterred that from happening.

Thanks Erin for the review, it helped me make the decision to purchase this unit and replaced 3 other devices despite the cost. As a fellow Calgarian i suffer a bit from the dry air especially this time of the year. One quick question though, did you find if you had the fan speed on 5 or above the humidifier seems to guzzle the water and takes much longer to reach the desired humidify level? Thanks again and Merry Christmas!!

Having an AM10 along with an HP04, however, the humidity data from HP04 never reached 40% when I set the AM10 humidity to 70% and place both machines in the same room; plus there is always rock-feeling yellowish and whiteish dirty in the machine, sometimes the dirty even fully cover the UV generator so that I had to use my Waterpik to clean it... I am suspect if AM10 has a design problem

Btw, there are lots of negative reviews with these machines ranging from malfunctioning after first cleaning cycle to foul smelling filters after only a few weeks. Mine has trouble turning on the oscillation mode after one week of use. You don't have any issues?

Likely that white residue is due to the ceramic pearls used to wick it up. Two types of usual humidifiers, one with ceramic and one with a wick. The former does not need replacing but leaves residue to wipe up, and the latter must be replaced so it has ongoing costs.

In auto mode, the fan refused to switch on despite the room being very hot. I'm not convinced of the robust design and functionality of this product. I have a new album out Monday and had hoped for trouble-free cooling in the build up. So far, I was wrong to expect this.

First chat with the outsourced rep did not help other then him telling me to dry the pump, had to call again and stay with another outsourced rep for hours: apparently customer service is not working evening hours, had to drag my machine to PO to mail it back, repair is in a different state, he keeps giving me address location in a different state, replacement time is 2 weeks, long typing conversations. They are very polite, indeed, but the chat app is really not convenient - you have to wait on the phone for hours , cannot close the screen, cannot get out to use or look at another app. For this kind of price, very annoying and time consuming.

Yes you can! If you set the fan to low or redirect the airflow backwards it doesn't feel cool.

Supposedly they’re fine to leave running 24h a day, I had mine on 24h for a few months with no problems, I use it on a timer now till midnight as it’s in my living room and usually gone to bed by then

Thank you. This is very informative. Are there two filters that need to be replaced or just one HEPA? Does $100 cover the cost of all of the filters?

    • @ErinLawrenceTV

It’s a two-part filter if that makes sense. $100 covers both portions of it

Good question. It actually calls for tapwater specifically and not distilled water. I use tapwater and it’s working great.

    Very well made video!
Now regards the product I have few questions if I may ask:
    - which model is it? PH01 or PH02?
    Which is better?
I have read that inside they have mercury that is quite unhealthy..
    - I have read negative reviews, other complain about quality, other about white dust all over after using it. Other about braking after 1 day use.. other that they experience leak quite often.
    - also if possible compare and do a review between this dyson and IQ air Health pro plus (899$).
    Thank you very much!!!

Did you end up buying a good humidifier? If so which one?

    • @keithd.2722
      @keithd.2722 Před 2 lety

The white dust is due to hard water - those are the minerals from the water being used that get spread around. Every humidifier will have this issue to different extents depending on size and water supply and how they're used, so that isn't unique to Dyson.

The problem on my house is Thani have noticed that I just clean the hose and I can see dust on already on the wood floor.... wondering if this type of air purifier will help! Thanks for any information.

I got one of those this autumn and I am very disappointed with it. There are several flaws, mostly pertaining to the humidifier function. Here are some of the problems:
    1- very heavy unit
2- impossible to set a humidity level of 35; it goes only by steps of 10, so either 30 or 40. When you know that the optimal level is about 35 during our Canadian winters, this alone is a deal breaker.
3- The UV light might kill the bacterias in the water going to the evaporator, but it does not kill bacterias in the tank. Over time a build up of algae in the tank will clog the pump filter and humidification will stop.
4- Thinking my machine needed cleaning after the pump was clogged, I wanted to start a deep cycle clean; but the machine won’t let you start a deep cycle clean; it’s an automatic function.
5- I called Dyson support to ask what I could do; after 2 hours wasting my time they didn’t have clue what was wrong. They do not know these machines and they basically follow a script which leads to me returning the machine to them and waiting all winter for a replacement. Finally I figured out by myself the pump filter was clogged, cleaned it and the humidifier worked again; no need for a new machine. Bad support.
6- this huge machine cannot reach more than 30% level when it’s about -10 C outside My room is only 20x14 feet.
7- the machine is very noisy at speeds pass level 5
8- it’s way too expensive for the lack of performance bad software and support.
Conclusion; do not waste your money and get a cheaper ultrasonic or wick humidifier.
