2:05 Humidification
4:20 Fan
7:20 Purification
10:05 My overall thoughts
When you live in one of the driest places in Canada, you think about humidity. A lot. I’ve had dozens of humidifiers and diffusers too and while they help a bit, they rarely last. So when Dyson announced its new Dyson Pure Humidify+Cool, I was abnormally excited. This is Dyson’s first triple-function machine: it’s a fan, but it’s also engineered to automatically purify and hygienically humidify your whole room all year round. I had a chance to have one of these devices in my home for a few weeks to test it out and see what it does. Here’s what I learned.
While this is Dyson’s first triple function machine, it may also be its largest by far-it’s certainly the largest one I’ve ever had in my home. Standing a lanky three feet tall, it’s also almost a foot wide and weighs nearly 20 pounds empty, so this is a machine you are going to need to have a dedicated place on the floor for.
Let’s dig into each of the features…
Dyson Humidification
The humidification feature is the biggie here. The Pure Humidify+Cool has a huge water tank in the base that holds 5 litres and is supposed to give you about 36 hours of humidification, depending on how high you have it set of course. I can definitely say that at the level I had mine set at, I was easily getting 3-4 days of use from it before needing to refill the tank.
The Dyson Pure Humidify+Cool has a built-in ability to hygienically humidify and purify a room. The device features a new “technology column” in the water tank that “uses UV-C light to kill bacteria in the water by denaturing their DNA so they can no longer multiply”. Dyson says a highly reflective PTFE tube reflects the UV-C light so water is exposed to multiple rays to kill 99.9% of bacteria in the water in the first pass.
Dyson Cooling:
While running the humidifier generates a low breeze, you can crank up the cool if you need to.
The Dyson fan concept is unique; Dyson uses a bladeless model that takes in air, amplifies it and pushes it out along the front sides of the airflow loop. This is a bit different than other Dyson fans, where the airflow loop is continuous around the whole loop. On the rear side, however, there is a continuous airflow vent that allows for less direct airflow and a more breezy feel.
Jet Axis Control:
Dyson says its ‘Jet Axis Control technology’ gives more independent control to the fan. Those two jets at each side of the air amplifier are independently controlled to provide direct cooling, oscillation mode, backwards airflow mode and new Breeze mode. So important to not here, the device controls them automatically, you don’t get to turn one on or off… During my testing I didn’t notice if one or the other was working more or less.
o Breeze mode:
Fans can be really harsh and direct with the airflow. So Dyson says it’s engineering team tried to change things up to make the airflow more natural, like a gentle breeze.
Dyson Purification
The other important function this device has is to purify the air. Dyson says a fully-sealed filter system captures 99.97% of air pollution as small as 0.3 microns. The Dyson Pure Humidify+Cool automatically detects particles and gases, as well as temperature and humidity levels and reports them in real time via the app. HEPA and activated carbon filtration captures gases and 99.97% of particle pollution.
Overall review Dyson Pure Humidify+Cool
Overall I’m pretty happy with this machine. I really like the option of having a fan, and purifier plus the new humidify function all in one machine, since it means I’d need fewer devices in my home-it’s definitely multipurpose. It runs super quietly I enjoy the app control, and I really like the massive 5L water tank, which meant I wasn’t filling up a humidifier daily. And the fact it will self clear is a nice bonus.
Downsides? For me it’s the size and weight. This machine is big and needs space to operate so I’m limited on where I can place it. It also sticks out. I mean, it’s a Dyson so it looks kinda cool, but there’s no hiding it.
I know a lot of folks talk about Dyson machines being really expensive, and at $999CAD, this machine is definitely above average price for both fans, purifiers and humidifiers. The filters are also expensive at about $100 a pop.
Also, since winter is approaching, it would be nice if this machine also had a heating function like the Hot + Cool Link.
But overall, if you’ve been considering a purifier, humidifier and or a fan for your home to manage indoor air quality, the Dyson Pure Humidify+Cool is an all in one gadget that seems worth the price tag. - Věda a technologie
Thanks, Erin! I literally searched for this specific product 5 times in the last week. When I saw this video, I figured it was an old one from your channel and was wondering how I never found it before. And then I realized it was posted today! How timely for me. Thank you!
Update: I just finished watching the review and want to truly thank you for it. The information you're able to pack into a 12-minute video without making it seem long is quite amazing.
Thanks Erin..Have had this machine for nearly 8 months or so, not used it a great deal but recently it needed a deep clean, no issues conducting task, however, the deep clean took 2 days to complete, reading blogs it appears there is an issue here. I contacted Dyson, they responded in great time, they arranged pickup of machine and advised me 2 days later that they would send a brand new one due to issues with production etc. during this pandemic, the new one arrived today and is up and running. Although I am aware of most controls I always like to watch videos like yours just to update my knowledge and of which your review has so I thank you for that and have subscribed..gonna look for Dyson for bedroom now. Regards Bill fi Scotland
Erin, I'm a little late to the party but thank you for the quality reviews. You are literally the only content creator whom I take the time of my busy day to actually click on the like button. Now let's get to that 100k subs already.
Genuinely one of the best tech reviews I’ve ever watched. Thank you for the great info!
Great video. Really like the way you break down the details. Great to see another Canadian putting together some great reviews
great review! I appreciate all the insightful, even nuanced, observations, and the explanation of how your review is structured! I wish all reviews were of this caliber
By far the best video on this device. Thanks for making it!
Thank you so very much for the compliment, and glad you find it helpful.
This was a very clearly explained, informative video. One of the best I've seen. Thank you.
I'll definitely be checking out your other reviews.
Thanks so much for the lovely compliment.
Good review. This was a birthday gift for me. It’s been over a month. I need to start using it.
Subbed
Thank You!!!! Definitely made my purchase after the video...love the details and great way of explaining the features of it. Chicago winters can be brutal and this was a must purchase in my book.
Just purchased the hp04 hopefully is good and yes chicago winter is brutal
Finally a useful review about this specific device!
Thank you!! Purchased one today thanks to finding your video last night. You covered so much.
Hope you enjoy it! Glad the video helped you. :)
Dyson is great quality. I got a huge yellow vacuum back in 2006 I think and it is just like new. Due to the HEPA filter (washable) doing so much for my allergies and asthma in my vacuum I decided to get during Black Friday this year the Hot+Cool purifier. I agree I wish it also had the humidifier feature, and the new gas removal (formaldehyde and other dangerous stuff.) I can tell you that there is a difference, and my cat and I no longer are wheezing as much. I live where the wildfire smoke made it dangerous to even go outside for days, and my old purifier’s filters were blackened. I wonder how this new device filter will handle that smoke in summer? It is a lot quieter than the old purifier as Erin’s model was, and due to being hard of hearing the quieter background noise makes a huge difference to me.
Wow! Such an in depth, well-thought out, and greatly paced review!! Hit all the great points, explained every feature thoroughly, and great visuals. I have a Dyson Pure Hot+Cool model and I absolutely love it!! I agree adding the heating function to that machine, or the humidifiying aspect to my machine would be great. But I ultimately think price deterred that from happening.
Overall great review!
Thank you so much for the compliments and for watching!
I must say, this was quite an impressive review. Very informative and I do believe I have just made my decision. Definitely going to go ahead and purchase. Thank you.
Thank you so much, Danielle! I appreciate the kind words and I’m glad it was helpful.
I seriously want the Dyson Pure Humidifier but the price is daunting. I think I will wait for an after Christmas sale. Thanks for the review, Erin!
Dyson never go on sale
Most informative video I’ve watched by far, thanks, now I’m getting one!!
Thank you for the compliment
Excellent delivery of product knowledge and operational clarity; thank you!!
Glad it was helpful!
This is the one that I'm looking out for in the black Friday sale. Thanks for the warning about the price of the filters! Wow that's expensive but I can't put a price on the quality of air that I breathe in x
Glad it helped you, and thanks for watching.
This was very informative, thank you !
Thanks Erin for the review, it helped me make the decision to purchase this unit and replaced 3 other devices despite the cost. As a fellow Calgarian i suffer a bit from the dry air especially this time of the year. One quick question though, did you find if you had the fan speed on 5 or above the humidifier seems to guzzle the water and takes much longer to reach the desired humidify level? Thanks again and Merry Christmas!!
Hi Erin, thanks for a great review. I'm thinking to get one but one concern I have regarding the Humidifier. If I set the Humidity to 60% for the 300 sf room, how fast it will reach that humidity level? Thanks
This is super informative, thank you! Just wondering if the humidifier actually emits a mist like most humidifiers do? Thanks!
Great review! Can this be run only on the fan/purifier mode? I only need humidification in the winter months.
Im just picked this up and really like it. I use it in my converted loft to keep dust levels down. Should I be turning it off when im not in the room or can I leave it on Auto and it will take care of itself?
This was a great review and I definitely purchased this just now from Dyson. I wanted to note the link in the description goes to the Dyson - HP04 rather than the machine in the video. I accidentally ordered that. Glad I double checked at least!
Thanks for letting me. I’ll check it!
@@ErinLawrenceTV I did get the proper device from Dyson and I'm loving it thanks again!
Hi Erin. I have a 3 floor home. Would you move it around the house depending on where i was and is this what you do in your home?
I bought this instead of the cool + heat, because I wanted a far infrared heater, which I found and love!!
i need this but i plan to put it on a small wheeled platform to transfer it from the living room during the day to my bedroom during the night. not a far travel. I wonder though if the constant change in location will eventually cause any breakage... what do you think? Thanks for this review!
Hi I am one of the 0.01% bacterium that got away. Carry on, don't mind me, have a great day!
Hi Erin, thanks a lot for sharing. I'm wondering shall I buy Dyson Pure Humidify+Cool PH03 or PH02? It seems like PH03 has the latest technology but PH02 is more expensive thank PH03? I'm a little bit confused
With the humidifier option if the air feels more refreshing? I know it's not air conditioning, but does it somehow feel a little colder?
Amazing review! I just bought one today but I can't seem to connect it to the new MyDyson app. Any guide on how to do that?
Do you know how many square feet/meters that this unit is effective for?
New subscriber! A very well done video, thank you so much!
Thank you!
Excellent review! thanks!
dyson makes another triple function machine, the HP04/HP06. They heat, purify and work as fans too :)
What square footage does it work with?
Awesome video, thank you
if I was to order one today, which vs would I get? I was told the newer version has fixed some of the earlier kinks...is that true?
Having an AM10 along with an HP04, however, the humidity data from HP04 never reached 40% when I set the AM10 humidity to 70% and place both machines in the same room; plus there is always rock-feeling yellowish and whiteish dirty in the machine, sometimes the dirty even fully cover the UV generator so that I had to use my Waterpik to clean it... I am suspect if AM10 has a design problem
Hello, do you still have the device? I read on comments on the internet that a lot of devices stop operating after a few months. Is yours still working fine?
This was a good review, thank you.
Thanks very much 🙂
Is it also recommended in the winter?
Hi Erin, purchased this unit yesterday and faced with a challenge with the top switch. It is showing an orange colour which is prompting for me to clean with step 7,8, & 9 as indicated.? Believe me I ran the machine on for a few hours last night. My question is how do I reset the machine to normal operation. Thanks in advance! Perhaps you should do a tutorial on the top switch to educate your subscribers, I think this is important.
i have the newer one of these which is formaldehyde as well. i am trying to understand the humidity levels. why is it lit up blue when you go to 60 & 70% but greyed out on 30, 40 & 50%? sometimes it is also grey on 60%
Bought 2 of them, thanks for this video!!
Glad it helped you 😃
are you happy with them, I also want to buy 2 units
Debating this and the HP09. Do you think it would be fine getting the refurbished ones on Best Buy?
How do you get 3 to 4 days of humidifying with a full tank? I set mine at 50% humidity and it only lasts 1.5 days; it never reaches 50% humidity.
Btw, there are lots of negative reviews with these machines ranging from malfunctioning after first cleaning cycle to foul smelling filters after only a few weeks. Mine has trouble turning on the oscillation mode after one week of use. You don't have any issues?
Thanks, is the steam visible?
Even though my water tank is full, the screen shows a spigot. Why? No one can properly address this issue with me. I’ve done all the remedies but without success.
Does this also generate heat as well?
How often do you replace the filter
Wow! The best review by far 👏🏼 I’ve lived in Calgary for years and never thought about getting a humidifier purifier. Now it’s time and SOLD! by the way I work for Vivint Smarthome. If you need anything please don’t hesitate to let me know 😁
Thank you so much for the compliment and the offer. Glad the video helped you.
Thank you! Great Review!
Hello- I live in Boca Raton Florida. Does this humidfier good in this climate? I suffer from allergies.
I’m really confused as I’ve just bought one of these and it doesn’t work with the Dyson link app. I called Dyson when it wouldn’t connect at they told me only the heat+cool works with the link app. Perhaps just a UK model thing?? Very disappointed I can’t use this with the link app.
Does it really need heat function as well? your room have heaters. The humidifier will make it so its feel warmere
What healthy benefits did you have? What do you mean no static? Thanks
Hi Erin, how do I add this machine on my app?
Erin, loveeeee your reviews!!! I’d love to hear your thoughts on Rabbit Air purifiers (in comparison to Dyson for instance)
Thanks for the suggest and the kind words. I’ll look them up!
would you recommend something like this for newborns?
Great video great explanation thanks to you I just ordered 2
I live in South Florida, which is basically a giant greenhouse. Does Dyson make a non-humidifying air purifier?
Thank you, this was really helpful
So glad to hear!
What model is this? PH04? Thanks.
Great video! I’m also wondering if you can use this device without fan as it’s winter right now and it’s so dry inside of my house because if using central heat so I’m looking to add humidity and filter the air but without cooling the house
The fan doesn't actually cool the house, it just moves air. If it is blowing on you, it might "feel" cool, but it won't reduce the air temperature in the room.
Amazing review!
Thank you 🙏
Can I use it without water as well?
Thank you very much for a detailed and great review. Could you please tell if you noticed any dust decreasing in the room while using this device?
Hmmm... That wasn't really something I looked at I don't think I could say it Decreased, but the house is not generally dusty while it's running.
Sold me one for sure !!
Glad you found the video helpful. If you get one, I’d love to know what you think as well.
What is the VOC on this device
So can it clean the room air from the corona virus?
As someone who lives on the east coast, I didn’t understand the purpose of this model. When it’s hot here, it’s also humid. The only time we use a humidifier is in the winter when it’s cold. I figured it was something for the hot dry climates.
Good feedback!
Excellent review!
Thank you kindly!
Thanks for the great review!! I use a regular ultra-sonic humidifier in the bedroom and notice with tap water I get a white mineral residue on surfaces close to the humidifier using tap water (we have very hard water). No residue with distilled water. I was wondering if you noticed any residue using tap water with the Dyson.
Likely that white residue is due to the ceramic pearls used to wick it up. Two types of usual humidifiers, one with ceramic and one with a wick. The former does not need replacing but leaves residue to wipe up, and the latter must be replaced so it has ongoing costs.
Will it use alot electricity?
The link for USA is wrong. That model does not come with a humification function.
dose it heat too?
How long will this lasts?
I love how Canadians say “about” as a boat.
What are you talking aboat?
A boot
How's = house
A gain = again
What’s this all aboot
No, we do not say A BOOT
We say it the same way you do
I had one delivered yesterday by Dyson and after talking to support, it's going back today for replacement. In Breeze mode there was a terrible grinding/buzzing sound. In auto mode, the fan refused to switch on despite the room being very hot. I'm not convinced of the robust design and functionality of this product. I have a new album out Monday and had hoped for trouble-free cooling in the build up. So far, I was wrong to expect this.
I'm sorry to hear that. Thanks for the comment!
This was such a good and thorough review!
Thanks!
Great video. I have one question - on my Dyson AM10 Humidifier (now discontinued) the blades had to be removed from the unit and cleaned due to calcium buildup, bacteria, etc. Are the “blades” detachable on this unit, and do they require cleaning?
Hey Batman... I'm pretty sure these aren't designed to be take apart. But I'm not totally sure.
That thing is a monster! I wish they made a smaller model
I think a lot of folks would like that...
Great review
Thank you 🙏
I bought mine for $$$ and 1 month later it is not working. First chat with the outsourced rep did not help other then him telling me to dry the pump, had to call again and stay with another outsourced rep for hours: apparently customer service is not working evening hours, had to drag my machine to PO to mail it back, repair is in a different state, he keeps giving me address location in a different state, replacement time is 2 weeks, long typing conversations. They are very polite, indeed, but the chat app is really not convenient - you have to wait on the phone for hours , cannot close the screen, cannot get out to use or look at another app. For this kind of price, very annoying and time consuming.
😒😒
Thanks for the review, one question, does it oscillate 360 degrees like the other dedicated air purifier models that they have? Thanks!
I think it's about 320 degrees if I remember correctly
Hi Erin, I have a question on this: can I use it to purifier and humidifier without cooling the area?
Yes you can! If you set the fan to low or redirect the airflow backwards it doesn't feel cool.
Excellent video
Just wondering if this unit is best left in auto 24hrs a day? Do they expect you to power it down at all? Thanks.
Supposedly they’re fine to leave running 24h a day, I had mine on 24h for a few months with no problems, I use it on a timer now till midnight as it’s in my living room and usually gone to bed by then
i have had this for couple of weeks now. i have set humidity level to 40% but i have never seen going above 22-24% even after running from morning to night. does the fan level have any effect on this, i normally keep at 4
I have the same issue
Does it humidify or not
Hey great review! 👍🏻 just thought you should know, it is a traditional fan with blades. The blades are inside the unit.
Thanks!
@@ErinLawrenceTV I will be purchasing this unit later this month. This review helped me justify the cost lol.
Thank you. This is very informative. Are there two filters that need to be replaced or just one HEPA? Does $100 cover the cost of all of the filters?
It’s a two-part filter if that makes sense. $100 covers both portions of it
@@ErinLawrenceTV That does help. Thank you. We ended up buying this product after watching your review :-)
Thank you! It’s very informative. One question: Can we use tap water instead of distilled water for this machine?
Good question. It actually calls for tapwater specifically and not distilled water. I use tapwater and it’s working great.
Very well made video!
Now regards the product I have few questions if I may ask:
- which model is it? PH01 or PH02?
Which is better?
I have read that inside they have mercury that is quite unhealthy..
- I have read negative reviews, other complain about quality, other about white dust all over after using it. Other about braking after 1 day use.. other that they experience leak quite often.
- also if possible compare and do a review between this dyson and IQ air Health pro plus (899$).
Thank you very much!!!
Did you end up buying a good humidifier? If so which one?
The white dust is due to hard water - those are the minerals from the water being used that get spread around. Every humidifier will have this issue to different extents depending on size and water supply and how they're used, so that isn't unique to Dyson.
Great video, thanks for sharing, I’m wondering how can I find out if I only need the air purifier or both the humidifier and the purifier? The problem on my house is Thani have noticed that I just clean the hose and I can see dust on already on the wood floor.... wondering if this type of air purifier will help! Thanks for any information.
I got one of those this autumn and I am very disappointed with it. There are several flaws, mostly pertaining to the humidifier function. Here are some of the problems:
1- very heavy unit
2- impossible to set a humidity level of 35; it goes only by steps of 10, so either 30 or 40. When you know that the optimal level is about 35 during our Canadian winters, this alone is a deal breaker.
3- The UV light might kill the bacterias in the water going to the evaporator, but it does not kill bacterias in the tank. Over time a build up of algae in the tank will clog the pump filter and humidification will stop.
4- Thinking my machine needed cleaning after the pump was clogged, I wanted to start a deep cycle clean; but the machine won’t let you start a deep cycle clean; it’s an automatic function.
5- I called Dyson support to ask what I could do; after 2 hours wasting my time they didn’t have clue what was wrong. They do not know these machines and they basically follow a script which leads to me returning the machine to them and waiting all winter for a replacement. Finally I figured out by myself the pump filter was clogged, cleaned it and the humidifier worked again; no need for a new machine. Bad support.
6- this huge machine cannot reach more than 30% level when it’s about -10 C outside My room is only 20x14 feet.
7- the machine is very noisy at speeds pass level 5
8- it’s way too expensive for the lack of performance bad software and support.
Conclusion; do not waste your money and get a cheaper ultrasonic or wick humidifier.
Thanks for confirming exactly what I've seen. I was gifted one for Christmas. Very disappointed.
@@talk2deb wow i was thinking about getting one. So basically the humidifier models arnt worth the extra price? How is the cooling aspect of it though?
Is it able to keep it at 50% even during wintertime? It’s sooo dry in Calgary right now and even my big dumb humidifier is struggling
It has been working for me... though I'll have to double check the level I have it set at.
do we need to buy 1 unit for each room or one is enough? like if we place it in the living room, will it be able to work on the adjacent bedrooms? thanks.
I forget what the exact square footage is but it does cover a wide area.
