    This answered MOST of the questions I had. I didn't know HOW TO TELL when the camera was being used, and you showed the ICON (AirPods icon) on the screen. Until now, I used the AirPods symbol in the MENU, which indicated that it saw the microphone, but I wasn't getting any audio. I'm going to keep a link to your video to refresh my memory from time to time. I'd MUCH rather use the transmitter pairing than plugging in the receiver and attachments (!). This is much more elegant that fussing with a lot of little pieces every time I head out. I really appreciate your sharing this with us! de Jim, KØUNX, in Jefferson County, Colorado.

    Im going to post this as a separate comment bc you might not see it as part of the ongoing discussion on the high pitch noise.
    The audio intereference is most likely related to the the electrical system. Isolating the ground wire could help although the specific noise is something that is usually caused by power bricks/chargers so a quality powerbrick/charger might do the trick in this case. Im guessing you have your camera plugged into a charger or something, If you go battery powered it should fix the problem. No external monitors or other devices plugged into the wall and connected to your camera though or that could reintroduce the issue.

    • @gwebster65
      @gwebster65  Před 17 dny

      The camera is running on battery only, and apart from the microphone, has nothing connected. The mic is a Rode, powered from the camera only and the audio cable does not run alongside any other active cables. I just don’t know what could be causing this, and it doesn’t help that I don’t hear it!

    • @DrewProject
      @DrewProject Před 17 dny

      @@gwebster65 Oh that’s very strange. Do you have WiFi routers/antennas nearby that could cause interference of some sort? What rode mic are you using? And what camera? The problem could be between the mic and the camera since there’s literally nothing else that can go wrong. You could try a different cable maybe. The noise is only present in some of the shots though. Which makes me think there was a very specific condition that caused it. The opening scene, which I think you cut into a different take and then went back to that one later on is the one presenting the issue. There’s a different noise in another scene which sounds more like an interference. Hopefully it isn’t the camera preamp. If you used the DJI mic 2 recording internally in the transmitter you’d definitely bypass it. But you’d have to sync audio and video in your edit software which is an extra step.
      I hope this helps

    I just got an X4. I haven't received it yet, but ordered a DJI mic 2 receiver. I'll be using it for my motorcycle vlogging channel. Prior to this, I have been using a ACM movo microphone tucked inside my helmet and was running the 3.5 mic jack out to my GoPro media mod jack. Great quality no issues (until my GoPro quit working LOL).
    When I get my DJI mic 2 and get it bluetooth paired to my X4, I'll be interested to see if I can tell a quality difference between just tucking the received into my helmet up by my chin and mouth, versus buying a 3.5 mic adapter for the X4 and keep using my ACM mic but now plugged into the X4.
    I'm hoping I'll have room to just tuck the receiver into my helmet chin area and not mess with plugging the 3.5 jack in. That way, whether I am mounting the X4 on my helmet, or it's out on the bike via a motorcycle mount location, my in-helmet set will be the same simple approach of just using the receiver itself.
    We will see! Looking forward to getting the DJI mic 2 and testing it all out soon! Thanks for the great review. Liked and subscribed.

    Never even thought you could connect the DJI Mic 2 via bluetooth to the X4, great job! I wonder if we can get DJI and Insta360 to release a firmware so the X4 can stay connected after the power cycle and DJI can allow the internal back-up to be activated when using the X4.
    Even though the audio sounds great via direct bluetooth, it would be great to not have to worry about the added set-up time of the receiver, while also having a 32-bit float back-up in case of dropouts.

      Good question. When the BT mic is attached, I can change the gain, but comparing 2 test runs (one at -18dB and one at +6dB) there is no difference in the sound level on the recording.

      @JosezitoMotovlogs Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@gwebster65 Exactly, I also did these tests and came to the conclusion that this gain adjustment only works when the connection is made by cable through the audio adapter.
      It's a shame because to do motovlogging I have to lower the gain to -12 dB on the X3 and -9db on the DJI Action4 to avoid distorting the audio.

    You're the only one who thinks the bluetooth audio quality beats the hardwired one. Anyways, does it record that 32bit float audio internally simultaneously while hardwired to for back up or it's only one or the other at a time? Secondly, when I activate the 32 bit float on the receiver to record internally in the transmitter, do I have to keep the receiver turned on and mounted onto the X4 or I can just keep it in the charging hub or even turned off or the receiver has to be on all the time to get that 32bit float recordings?

    • @gwebster65
      @gwebster65  Před 16 dny

      To be clear, hardwired will give you the best quality, but I just find the setup very awkward and not very "action camera" friendly. As for 32-bit float recording, yes this works simultaneously when hard-wired, but NOT when connected via BT.

    Good test, thank you.
    I watched another test vid with bluetooth versus USB using Pixel 8 phone and Osmo Action 4 cams.
    Oddly, USB was consistent, but the Pixel 8 sounded horrible via BT while the Action 4 was almost indistinguishable from USB. I suppose the DJI BT technologies have better compatibility?
    In your test, to me the X4 sounds more noticeably 'worse' (muddy) via BT than the Action 4 did. Not 'bad', but not quite as good.
    Still, that seems odd given how the Action4 seemed to have almost no difference.
    I'm trying to get my noodle around how to best have a setup recording two Mic2 receivers with an X4 and an Action4 when riding a motorcycle. One for in-helmet voice and one secreted on the bike out of the wind for engine/exhaust noise.
    The devices are ordered and I have my fingers tightly crossed it will be good enough to use a Mic2 with each cam via BT.
    I'd so like to avoid having the converter and receiver hanging off one of the cams!
    I suppose if I really want best quality audio, I will just have them record on their own and do all the syncing in post-production, as painful as that can be...

    • @gwebster65
      @gwebster65  Před 3 měsíci

I have the mic positioned close to my chin, and I'm not speaking loudly, so I'm puzzled by this issue.
    Here are the transmitter settings I've tried: lowcut set to ON (I also tried it with OFF, but the result is the same), gain initially set to -9dB, now adjusted to -12dB with no improvement, 32-bit mode ON, rec stop OFF, and noise reduction initially OFF, now ON, yet the issue persists. The other settings seem irrelevant. I'm at a loss for what to do next. Should I try connecting the receiver directly to the X4 to see if it yields better results?

      Attaching the receiver, means using the Insta360 microphone adapter. Even using a longer cable with the receiver in a backpack, it’s not very practical for moto-vlogging (complicated setup, fragile, not waterproof…). I think this is a good situation for using the on-board recording capability of the transmitter. If you set it to 32-bit float, the quality will be even better than using the receiver.

    Cardo packtalk edge is better than dji, isn’t it?

    Help !! I used my DJi mic 2 today with my insta X4 I used it on my motorcycle with a lavaliere mic plugged into the mic 2 this works perfectly on the pocket 3, however on the X4 when ever I speak I get a buzzing cracking noise on my voice!!!
    Could this be the gain too high ? I did turn it down to -6 but ten put it back to zero but still the same.
    I have noticed on the DJI pocket 3 this lav mic is very sensitive and I have run it at - 8 db but the audio is perfect 👌🏻

      Are you using the mic adapter or by bluetooth? The external mic gain has no affect when using bluetooth. Maybe try to reposition the mic further from your mouth?

      Im using DJi 2 via Bluetooth ive been playing around with things and it only seems to do it when the engine is running as soon as I start talking it sounds terrible like a static crackle over my voice?
      I can record using it away from the bike with no issues at all it sounds great

      After extensive testing it would appear that the DJI 2 is to sensitive with a lav mic attached in a helmet I have tried several different mics and as soon as i close the visor the mic is over driving, I can’t use the DJI noise cancelling when connected to the insta x4 on the DJI mic 2 and non of the noise cancelling options work on the x4 they are greyed out!
      I have tried reducing the mic gain and no better I have even re sited the mic in my helmet well out of the way and it still makes the horrible buzzing cracking noise when I speak. I am wondering if I could put a resistor in the feed line of the mic to make it less sensitive?

    I have a weird situation with the DJI Mic 2 and Insta360 X4. I pair them via Bluetooth, which works fine, but if I press the record button on the DJI Mic, it vibrates once, the red light appears for 1-2 seconds, and then disappears again, so I guess it doesn't record for whatever reason. Any idea? The mic is paired with the camera because I see the blue link icon on the X4.
    So Weird. It records when it´s connected to the receiver, but not when it´s paired with the 360. When you have the mic paired do you just press the record button and it starts recording? I even updated firmware for TX and RX and same result.

      Unfortunately, the remote start/stop feature does not work when connected to the X4, nor does the on-board recording.

      @@gwebster65 So... how am I supposed to start recording with the DJI Mic 2? Or does it automatically start recording once I begin recording with the Insta360 X4, but without displaying the red LED?

      @@gwebster65 Ohhh, I just tested it, and yeah, it's recording! I can hear the audio in the Insta360 video. But... is that audio the correct one, or is the correct one the audio stored inside the DJI mic? Thanks

      When the Mic 2 is connected, all recorded sound is embedded with the video file in the X4. By the way, you can also use voice commands via the Mic 2 to start and stop recording.

    In my opinion there is not much difference in Bluetooth connection and the receiver in close range. It’s much cleaner and quicker using via Bluetooth. I will be using the x4 with dji mic 2 via Bluetooth.
