Bro, I’ve had the GoPro max, x2, GoPro max again and now the X3. I almost didn’t get it because the sound on the x2 and the reviews made it sound like it was crap….. now in hindsight, i realize they all then attempted to sell me an audio plug. Like, i do water stuff and wanna talk, hows that gonna work? Thanks to you, I’ve stopped using wind reduction and now I’ve seen a night a day difference! Thank you!
Thanks for posting these tests. That's really interesting. The direction focused audio, post-processed as stereo seemed to have the best outcome to my ears. Will be interesting how it performs in a busier audio environment.
I just listened to this again and to my ears, the stereo sound recovered from the direction focussed audio (unticked in the app) sounds a bit more narrow that the stereo sound from the stereo setting. Still, that trick is still worth knowing if, for instance, you made an important video with the wrong audio setting!
Hi Peter now what about for when I run as all the settings pick up the wind that is created by me running and I can't even remove it in the studio app on desktop. should I get the Røde wireless mic
You inspired me to dust this camera off this year and try again The inbuilt mic and the wind noise that stops me using it I was hoping you could stick a USB c microphone the the side and not use the adaptor to 3.5mm Seen a lot of alternative solutions that I was hoping to buy but companies won't ship to UK
I really struggled with getting any type of decent audio while I was running with the X2 so I just went and purchased the dji mic and just sync up my audio in post production. Really easy to do!
Indeed, that's one approach, but I like stereo ambient sounds for most of my videos. I'm about to do some experiments using an external audio recorder with 'dead kitten' bolted to the bottom of the pole. I should be able to upload the result in the next couple of days.
@@Ozpeter When your running, there's always the wind to contend with. The go pro mic wind breaker negates that but im so bored of the handheld go pro shot arent you! :)
@@trailrunningphil I'm testing a Zoom F1 audio recorder and a Sennheiser stereo shotgun mic with dead cat, mounted on the bottom of the selfie stick - works well, but not suitable for running etc!
@@Ozpeter Cool. I will sub to you and see your little experiments Peter. I went for the dji mic because the transmitter has built in recording and doesnt need require the receiver plugged into the camera. I just use the TX and plug it directly into my mac with a USB lead! I must pull my finger out and get some more content recorded!! :)
@@trailrunningphil Thanks, I hope that you see something worth a look on my channel from time to time. Those DJI mics do seem to be a very flexible audio tool - incredible tech!
Hi there, lovely very interesting video. Thank you so much for the contributions and dedication. What mic would you recommend moto-loggers to use with an insta 360x3 that is waterproof and it’s easy to connect once you go back to the motorbike( meaning it will connect via Bluetooth directly without touching anything)?. Very important is to say bikers use thick gloves and they want to know when they decide to record( as they have the microphone inside the helmet in order to avoid the wind noise as much as possible) a mic that is easy to touch and start recording unless that has voice command( like AirPods-which seems a bit of a issue every single time you go back to the bike and you have to connected to the X3). Thank you for your time.
I don't have an answer for that. Have you tried asking on the X3 Facebook group page? There is often discussion of stuff related to motorbikes and so on there. Thanks for the kind comment anyway!
Yes, where's there's constant wind, then you'll have to use that mode. Some people seem to leave it enabled all the time - that's where it can really mess with the audio unnecessarily,
Hmm. Is this with the new firmware released in the last couple of days? (I'm thinking possible bug in new FW if so.) Any change of settings during your shooting? But I can't think of an easy way to disable sound anyway. Are you playing back on phone or through PC transfer or on the camera itself? Maybe try another playback method. Is it recording sound now or is it still mute?
@@Ozpeter No firmware update No change off settings 2 recordings with sound Over 10 without Recorded when back home have sound Playing back through the insta app Through an iPad Thanks
@@toddweston221 I can't think of an obvious explanation - maybe ask on the Insta360 X3 official Facebook group? You would probably get lots of suggestions there, from users and from Insta themselves.
when I slide down on the screen of the camera, and click audio button on the top right I get this message "audio authorization lost, please contact customer service" ... do you know what this is? waiting to get in contact with customer service but thought id ask here as well
This has been so useful and your audio experiments so well shown! Thank you!! 😊

Yes, in "stereo" it sounds great! Thanks for testing! 🙏
Great experiment & tips for nice audio recording insta 360x 3 thank you Sir
Thank you very much!!!
Before I spend BIG $$$ on an external mic, I'll give these settings a try. I think for voice applications it will work quite well. Thanks!!
Nice
I lv it mister
Nice one great test and advice.

If i am using my x3 on a riding bicycle, wouldn't it be better to use 'wind reduction' ?

I shot some footage today
First 2 recordings had sound , the rest didn’t ,
Any ideas Peter

This is being reported by a number of users and it seems that Insta360 have to send them a special file to fix it.
