Great job Paul. That was an outstanding demonstration. Thanks for posting.
I have this mower. Love it! Watch this and the walk around review. You hit on two of my questions I had that I could not find answers for. One what the blue handle is for and second the blue foam in the gas tank. Great content keep the videos coming!
Yes ! I was impressed how it went thru the heavy grass and how it packed tight like a hay bale into the bag
Thank you for showing the capabilities of the machine, most people review it on perfect lawns so it's difficult to gauge if it can handle tough stuff. I did write this mower off but after seeing this video I'll have to reconsider.
Best review I’ve seen on this mower, now I’m ready to get a Timemaster. Thanks Paul!
Any time!
I have had mine since 2016. At the beginning of last season I put a hour meter on it and put 24 hours last year. I'd say I have 250 hours and have only had to do regular maintenance. Love this mower.
what a beautiful spot of land you own sir
I have this same lawnmower very satisfied with it for a walk behind.
I'm currently using a 20yr old craftsman mower. I've been interested in getting a time master. Seems like it can do it all, and well. Thanks for the review.
A lot like my yard. I was thinking of getting an s240, but this has made me start to thinking again.
I just bought one last Friday!
Love your channel, mostly like the snow blower reviews cause I live in Alaska. However, I went with the cheap 2 stage craftsman. The high end blowers look amazing, but I just can't justify spending that much on a snow blower.
Thanks for all your reviews. Take care.
Great review and thank you!! I will have to buy this one soon.
I was born with a Toro Whirlwind crank mower that belonged to my parents in 1961. Since then I’ve had a Craftsman, Snapper, Cub Cadet, Ariens and two Toros including the Toro 60V Recycler that I bought last year. There’s nothing like a Toro.
Ariens is the best snow blower.
At 20:13 in the video you dropped something by your right foot. It quickly got covered up by the huge pile of grass. At 20:35 you bent down and picked something up by your left foot. I hope you did not loose what was near your right foot. Camera equipment and wallets are expensive to replace. Great review by the way. I like how you push through grass we homeowners might never do. A good test of a beast of a machine. Thanks Mark
Yes, I dropped my wireless mic and the little fur cover that keeps the wind from making the microphone sound weird (It's called a "dead cat"). I picked up the microphone and went back later and found the dead cat under the pile of grass.
Excellent review and demo Paul. Your mower reviews are as comprehensive as your snowblower vids👍🏽
Great video.
Paul, I love all your video's , did you see the new Ariens Crossover Snowblower? I hope you get one to test, I sent a message to Ariens praising you telling them you sold me on the Ariens snowblower Deluxe 30 and so far I believe it's better than my Toro 928. I say you're a good, honest man and I believe every word you say. I have a pictures of both my new snowblowers don't know how to send you the pic, and when the snow flies I will make a short video of both in action and send to you. My short opinion is the Ariens has better drive gearing and steering, easier to handle and the engine always starts on first pull, but the Toro has a better multi-function stick for the snow shoot, and the engine sounds smoother and more refined on the Toro
Thanks Paul
Great video, what's your thought on the recycler?I so need a time master, but now wondering about the recycler
If you want the best possible cut in a 21/22 inch mower the Super recycler (black deck) is the best choice. The regular Toro Recycler (red deck) and the TimeMaster both use Toro's recycler tech. In other words you won't see any difference in the cut quality of the 21/22 inch recycler and the TimeMaster.
Fantastic review. Other similar (Troy built, Craftsman) mowers 28 inch have the external tube that moves the discharged grass much higher and farther. Lots of complaints about clogging. They have to switch to high lift blades for bagging! You didn't. Do you get much build up under the front pulley cover? Pulley/belt replacement yet?
No build up. The traction and deck belts are up on the top of the deck. The covers fit so grass doesn't get in there.
@@PaulSikkema great, many complaints about build up there. may want to check it once in a while.
What did you do to your mower? Your timemaster went up that hill with no problem. I have seen other videos where everyone complained that it would not go up any incline.
Nothing, but I do mow at 3.5 to 4 inches. Mowing higher makes it easier to go through heavy/dense turf. It has plenty of traction.
I have a 1/4 acre. Roughly 10,000sq ft and I’m using a 21” now which takes me roughly 1hr to cut if I hustle. I’m Torn between the Time Master 30” or spending 3x and getting a 42” time cutter. What would you do?
Do you like to walk and enjoy the exercise? Get the Time Master. homedepot.sjv.io/qnnGZN
Are you getting old and have knee or foot issues like I do? Get the Time Cutter. I personally like the 42 inch with the V-twin and fabricated deck: homedepot.sjv.io/P00q4N
Thanks.
Seems like a great unit! If it weren't for the small gas tank...the extra time to fill up is probably the same amount of time to walk the few extra stripes with my Honda 21".
How long does it take you to mow with the Honda? The TimeMaster will reduce that by 40%.
So if it takes 2 hours to mow your lawn with the Honda and the TimeMaster will get it done in 1 hour and 12 minutes. So are you telling me it will take more than 48 minutes to fill the TimeMaster 3 times?
Paul Sikkema takes me 1 hour 15 min typically. So could I get a full cut out of the Timemaster without refueling?
Doing a quick calculation in my head I would say, yes.
What is nice about this mower is this is a true 30 inch cut, also you get 60 inch cut per 2 passes which cuts time way down. I just put one on layaway until I pay off my previous 22 inch Toro. I doubt I'll ever have to cut grass like this but it's nice to know it can handle it without double cutting. This mower weighs around 145 lbs so I can see it not handling well on steep terrain or ditches. I'm just curious if this mower handles does really well over uneven lawns. Not having a floating deck especially on this mower weight wise might cause uneven cuts. I know my back yard has some low dips that cause my rider to scalp some spots or nor cut even unlike my push mowers that are liteweight and can handle uneven terrain. I'll likely know this once I get my 30 inch purchased. Do I think this mower is for me? Absolutely especially during hot summers. I get wore down easily edging curbs and weed trimming before I mow and sometimes I have to double cut when we have 2 or 3 days of rain especially with the humidity and high dewpoint we've been experiencing lately. My neighbor likes her lawn cut short which this is where I end up double cutting even with my super recycler with a Honda engine. I believe this will offer the cut she wants without having to double cut and give me a much needed break so I can do other yards I maintain without wearing down or having to wait until the next morning to cut grass. She won't let me use my rider because it makes a lot of dust.
This mower handles as well as your rear-drive 22 inch. The weight actually helps on steep ditches and rough lawns. If you noticed in this video (around 9:00) the ditch by the mailbox is 45 degrees.
It balances really well so you don't notice the extra weight when turning.
One of the features I really like is the mower is no longer than your 22 inch so it goes through dips and over bumps without scalping. In those conditions, it cuts a LOT better than the Toro ProLine hanging decks (I owned a 36-inch Toro Proline with the hanging deck for years.)
No mower will mulch well if you are cutting below 2 1/2 inches. I strongly recommend if you do mulch all the time raise the cut up to 3 1/2. Just show her how much nicer her lawn looks after a few months of mowing it longer :)
@@PaulSikkema I'm sure I'll never have to cut anything like that around here because all the lots I mow here in East Texas are flat surfaced yards with no ditches. You only see ditches going outside of town which are pretty gnarly and I doubt you could use the timemaster on them, not even zero turns would be able to do most of these ditches because they are sand dirt, they have to be trimmed with weed trimmers. In town we don't have as much sand dirt because people over the years put in truck loads of topsoil to grow their lawns. I know I did when I moved here from Ohio, we replaced about 5000 square yards of soil with good topsoil which required bulldozing the sand dirt, scooping it up, leveling the property and then filling it and planting grass. We have a lot of red clay under the sand layer so it makes a good foundation. I doubt people could afford to do that these days.
Hey Paul, I just turned 60 and moved to a bungalow with a 1/3rd acre lawn. I have not had to cut such a size lawn since I was a teenager. Should I go for the TimeMaster or one of those Cub Cadet 30 inch ride on mowers. Price is about the same.
1. Do you like to walk? Do you normally go for walks once or twice a week? With the Time Master you can mow your lawn in about 30 minutes walking a normal pace. The TimeMaster mulches extremely well and bags well if you have a lot of leaves. All this is included in the price. Check it out here: homedepot.sjv.io/qnnGZN
2. If you don't like to walk. If your lawn is flat or gently sloping the Cub Cadet CC 30 H will mow your lawn in less than 30 minutes. A mulch kit is optional ($35) and a bagger is optional ($300) You can get it through The Home Depot: www.homedepot.com/b/Outdoors-Outdoor-Power-Equipment-Riding-Lawn-Mowers-Rear-Engine-Riding-Mowers/Cub-Cadet/N-5yc1vZcariZeb
3. Cub Cadet also makes the CC 30 in electric. I like this new rider a lot but it is a thousand more. Check it out here: www.gopjn.com/t/8-12365-5755-199030?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cubcadet.com%2Fen_US%2Felectric-lawn-mowers%2Fcc30e%2F33AA27JDB10.html%23start%3D2
@@PaulSikkema Thanks for your reply. I have a dog and take him for a walk every day so very much apart of my routine. I also have quite a few trees around and just finished bagging like 25 bags full of leaves and I still have more to go Ugh. Please explain how the timemaster mulches leaves? I have never done that before. Just in past use a leaf blower and rake.
Hi Dean, When you leave the side discharge door closed on the right side of the deck the mower cuts the grass, throws it up in the air (under the deck) and when it drops back down cuts it again. It continues to do this until the grass is cut into fine clippings.
With leaves it basically does the same thing . It chews and chews and chews the leaves until they are just fine particles. The TimeMaster cuts them into small enough pieces that most of the time you don't have to pick the pieces up - just leave them on the lawn.
Watch this video to see how well it does. When they are done they could have used the TimeMaster in bagging mode to pick up all the pieces. All that's left would fit into a 30 gallon garbage bag...

@@PaulSikkema Hi Paul, my lawn is not flat at all but I would not say hilly either. There is a easment and it slopes to accommodate the drain sewer. I noticed last fall on home inspection that the lawn service would leave tracks near the drain. A rideon could make a mess I am afraid of.
How do you finding the transmission on very hilly lots?
Thanks.
I'm having no problems with this mower including the transmission. We mow a ditch that's to steep to mow with a riding mower all the time and it works great.
Most people who have trans problems are trying to use this residential mower for commercial work (20 lawns or more a week)
The commercial version has a different, heavier duty transmission.
@@PaulSikkema Thanks for the reply. I have the single blade version. I mow once a week about 2/3 an acre. Guess all the hills on the property is too much for the mower. Debating whether to spend money on it again. The darn thing runs great but the hilly terrain is just to much for this mowers' transmission and gears.
I've had the timemaster for years and find the stock toro blades are better than the high lift gator blades for that mower.
Yes, I agree. Had mine since the first year they came out. For me, the toro low lift atomic mulching blades work better in the spring and fall when the grass is moist and lush, and the higher lift toro atomic blades work better in the summer and if I am mulching leaves in late fall.
Now I've gotta have one. Have a honda hrx 3 years old, And have hated the performance since day one $779.00 sheesh! Heavy, doesn't mulch well even on short grass. Had a 349.00 toro 22 inch that I gave to my daughter still cuts better than the honda and is ten years old.
I love mines to far
Still working good? Thinking about buying the time master but there's mix reviews
There are always negative reviews. When you read them look at the date - anything older than one year is no longer valid.
Look at who is using it. This is a residential mower. Contractors need to be using the commercial version. There is always the new owner who doesn't know how to run it or puts old gas in it and of course. it's always the mower's fault.
Finally, if you do have a problem with it - take it to a dealer. Calling Toro or Home Depot won't get you the customer service you want.
@@PaulSikkema thank you that's what I was thinking love the video
Man that’s a lot of grass on bagger
I find it very funny when people say they did a review. And used the mower less than a year . Use it every day for three years hard and see how it falls apart ?
I understand your comment but - buyers are not interested in waiting for three years for a review of a new mower. They want to know NOW, when the mower is first introduced, if it is the new mower they should buy.
Some of us have been doing this for a long time. I've been using, repairing and buying mowers for almost 50 years now. I can usually tell right away if a mower is "good" and will last. I've been around the industry when the mowers were junk, didn't cut well, were hard to use and didn't last so I can tell if a new mower built today will last. I could write a book on the subject but instead take a look at the mowers I have owned over the years here: www.pinterest.com/toolboxhero/mowers-i-have-owned/
Paul Sikkema I have seen other videos and each of them complain about the transmission going out . One of them said the mower blade came off two different times once hitting the house he was mowing . This is why I did not buy one of these mowers . He said when he called they just hung up the phone on him two times . So much for Coustmer support !
All the videos I could find were from commercial operators from a few years ago. Yes, and I tried to be very specific in the walk-around review video - if you want to make money with the TimeMaster buy the commercial version. (all the videos I could find were from commercial operators.) The $1000 version is a residential version, the $2000 TurfMaster or ExMark Commercial 30 is the commercial one. It is designed to last a homeowner many years and it will. But, if you mow multiple lawns a week buy the commercial version. It is built to last the commercial operator years - including the heavy-duty commercial transmission.
It's like buying a Toro TimeCutter instead of a Toro 5000 and then going out and mowing 20 lawns a week - expecting it to last years and years. . Since it's a residential mower it will not have the same hour rating of a commercial unit.
On the subject of customer support. NO ONE READS THE OPERATOR"S MANUAL! Toro, Ariens, Gravely, John Deere, Husqvarna, Cub Cadet and just about all other mower brands (except the Chinese ones) don't provide over the phone or online warranty service. Instead, they ask you to take your equipment to a servicing dealer. The dealer will troubleshoot the problem, fix it if it's under warranty (or fix it for a fee if it's not) and make sure the problem is fixed.
In the case of the thrown blade we don't know if the owner used an impact to tighten the blade and stripped the bolt when he changed the blades, we don't know if the owner tightened it correctly - all we know is the same thing happened twice so he actually didn't fix the problem correctly the first time.
@@PaulSikkema Paul there was actually a recall on some Timemasters where blades were breaking. It's all fixed now.
www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2013/toro-recalls-timemaster-and-turfmaster-lawn-mowers#:~:text=This%20recall%20involves%202013%20Toro,model%20number%2022200%20with%20serial
Great review. But 8 Ads. Annoying!
Thanks for the feedback. I'm not a big fan of in-video ads but CZcams is always pushing them. I'll cut them out.
Lmao... Why in the world would you dump that full bag of clippings right back onto the yard?!? C'mon broski... What sense does that make??
Because what I'm mowing is actually a city-owned wildlife area. It only gets mowed with a bush hog once a year. The city mower makes a much larger mess than I did.
