Great job Bro, awesome stripes as always!
Thanks! Nice to have the big machine out again. I've seen some good traffic from your video so thanks again for that!
Congrats on the shout out! Allyns the pioneer with arrows in his back and Ryan coming in with the awesome stripes! The LCN needs to get a summerhouse in the midwest. HA. Great channels that I watch as often as possible.
You are clearly NOT messing around. Nice work there. 👍👌on the short cut grass. 2.5 inches. Nice! "I shouldn't be doing this, I shouldn't be doing this." You have my full support in going low. Nice edits dude.
2.5 inches seems crazy to me and that would be like insanely tall for your grass! Someday I'm going to do at least a portion of my yard low cut with a reel. It may not be at this house though. My ground is pretty uneven. The lower I cut, the more I realize it.
ryanknorr time to get some sand and do some leveling. I'm so anxious to do this now that I'm mowing at 2". I'd love to start playing around with a toro greens mower but they are $$$
Like Connor I think my obsession would become even worse than it already is.
ryanknorr. Yep I've gone too far. I'm out of control huh?
I wish all you guys were neighbors...Connor, Tim, Allyn, Ryan. Just imagine how interesting that would be :)
You deserve the LCN mention Ryan, keep up the great work.
Thank you!
Beautifully done
Thanks!
You're official if the Lawn Care Nut mentions you. :) I'm in NW Indiana, south of LCN's old homestead about 35 minutes away...trying to get KY Bluegrass to come in....takes forever to grow and we've had very hot temps over here as well.
Bluegrass is the ultimate slow grower. It took me a couple years for my backyard too look fully grown in.
This video reminded me of how much I love a beautiful lawn!
Thanks very much!
I have been following both you and Allyn for sometime. You both have inspired me and I must say that because of you and Allyn my front yard is dominating my neighborhood. I have KBG and it is so beautiful. I have had a lot of problems with it in the past and right now I am dealing with rust disease but am working on getting rid of that. I just wish it would rain. The rain that we have been getting is very minuscule.
Glad to help!
Really enjoyed that update video man, hope the backyard pulls through, I’m sure it will!
It's getting there and rain is in the forecast. Should be getting back to normal soon. Thanks for watching!
Backyard looks great!
The revival is getting better each day.
I followed what you did and threw down synthetic lawn food. I will still throw down Milo for my scheduled thanksgiving app.
Nice to see the Timemaster back in action. Good looking Fall stripes!
Love the way the grass looks in the fall!
Great work Ryan
Thanks!
Great job on the lawn Ryan. You really know your stuff. I'm really looking forward to the landscaping and redefining the lines around the trees video coming up!
Thanks and yes stay tuned for the work on the tree!
You may want to consider caulking those driveway joints. If water gets down there a freezes, it can cause some heaving and cracking issues in your driveway. Lawn looks great.
They have some kind of "spacer" type material in there it's just settled a little bit. I'll keep an eye on it though!
Great video Ryan. When I heard Allyn mention you I was pretty happy about that. You and Allyn both have such amazing lawns and you both have a wealth of knowledge.
Thanks so much!
It's amazing what a little rain and cooler temps will do. Still waiting on the rain here in michigan, but man your lawn is killer. I think the mowing height in the front is perfect. The drone footage was awesome too. Lcn word be proud. Total domination
Thanks! I agree the front cut height is looking good. I will be getting the drone out again very soon.
Great video and very nice yard 👌
Thanks!
Love the videos Ryan. As a fellow Iowan they have really helped in getting my yard turned around.
Glad to help!
Love the commentary! Look forward to watching your lawn through the fall season! Cheers to cooler temps and turf recovery! On another note, sorry about our Twins...there is always next year!
I have an idea of the next MN slogan. It's not Land of 10,000 Lakes. It's "There's Always Next Year" Haha
Between you and Allyn you both have motivated me. I have become OBSESSED with my lawn. I have a lot of hilly areas so it make my little 1/4acre tough to maintain.
Keep the vids coming man. I'm in Boston. Im curious as to when you will do your final mow of the season as I will probably follow suit.
Last year it was in December! So who knows what crazy weather is ahead of us this year. Don't worry, the obsession only gets worse with time. Ask me how I know...haha
ryanknorr 😂😂😂 me and my wife have been together since 2005. She's beyond annoyed with how meticulous I am.
I'm gonna have to start doing some videos so people can see my lawn.
You on Snapchat? It would be cool to send you some pics of my yard.
I don't use snapchat too much. You can find me on instagram.
Thanks for the updates!!
Thanks for watching!
So Ryan in what order is your fav now out of 1. Time master, 2. Manual reel mower 3. Swardman reel mowers ?
My rye grass looked glorious and then it was overcome by fungus. The entire lawn was dead within 2 weeks. I had even applied fungicide treatments routinely but it didn't work.
That's very strange. I am hoping I don't have an issue like that.
Thanks for another great video, Ryan. Excellent information as usual and your lawn looks great.
FYI, I used your method for repairing bare spots and had grass in four days, thanks for sharing.
Glad to help! Thanks for watching.
Didn't realize LCN was still making videos, yours are coming out like clockwork. Guess he has been dominated. Keep up the great work.
Thanks!
Enjoying the longer videos!!!! Keep it up!
Thanks! Took me about 5 hours to edit, so there's that...haha
Yard looks GREAT!! Nice job!
Thanks!
Keep up the hard work! Grass is looking good and your channel will blow up soon.. I can feel it!
Thanks!
Ryan, excellent job on all your vids man. You do a fantastic job.
Thanks so much!
Looks great. Seeded a week or so after you. Hasn't filled in as nice as yours. Hopefully soon.
A week is sometimes a huge difference in what things look like. Good luck!
Do you run the mower over leaves in the fall with the side discharge engaged?
Usually mulch the leaves.
Looking forward to to your video about edging around your tree! Great quality video as always, hopefully my overseeded tall fescue looks half as good as yours!
I'll be working on that tree very soon if it stops raining like a monsoon here. Either we have no rain or floods, that's the midwest for sure.
ryanknorr I hear ya there. I’m in Kansas, we’ve been getting around 1/2” to 1” a day every day for the past five days now. I’m looking forward to some sun to get my seeds to finally germinate! Congrats also with the shoutout from LCN. LEGENDARY.
The domination is strong with this one.
:)
I really enjoy your channel, keep up the good work!
Thanks!
Lawn looks amazing, really jealous. Here in Michigan, we've had 1/2 in of rain in the past month. Everything is dormant or dead
Very tough year. Hopefully it will turn around very soon.
Very nice, keep inspiring. Great job!
Thanks!
Nice series of videos on reseeding a lawn. I saved your playlist for a redo this fall. My spring seeding with Tall Fescue didn't work that well so I'll use your video for guidance. I'm going with TF simply because when we moved into the house last fall (Iowa), that's all that was left standing after abt 3 years of neglect. Pretty hearty plant, but definitely not as easy to grow as your rye grass. But this time I'll be going with a variety that's grown in the Midwest vs a big franchise product. Well deserved shout out by LCN by the way. Your videos are logical, easy to follow, and complete.
Fescue is a hearty plant for sure. I have nothing against it I just don't personally prefer the wide blade look. But it has definitely advantages. Good luck with your project!
Thanks Ryan. I'm going with the fescue to match what's on the lawn now and fill in the bare spots. Anyway, your videos are a big help. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge with us.
Nice Video ...Go Wings!!!
Booo! Haha
Interesting game last night for sure
Great vids. Dealt with some leaf spot issues this year too. What did you put down for fungicide? Had moderate success with honor guard propiconazole but would like to try something different next time.
I used the Bayer Fungus Control which I believe is the same main ingredient. I didn't see much of a difference either but I should have been putting some down as preventative instead of after the fact.
PRG looks so nice and the time it grows is just incredible. Wish my TTTF and KBG would grouw that fast... what are the best cultivars in terms of PRG? Im thinking of using it to my front yard next year maybe...
I'm using the SS9000 mix from seed super store. There's 3 varieties in that mix and those are some that are considered the best of the best. There are others as well if you search for elite varieties.
Keep the videos coming, Ryan. I hope to buy a timemaster when my craftsmen decides to crap out.
Awesome. Thanks for watching!
Hey Ryan I also have the timemaster and love it. Could you mention the letter setting when you say you are cutting at 2.5 inches or 3 inches. During the summer I have been cutting at C. I have dropped one notch this fall. Should I drop one more notch? I also have the same mix of grass as you do in the front yard. I am located in ND and have pretty much the same weather as you. Thanks!
Shawn Heiraas I have one, I think C is 3 inches and d is 2.5. I think I bent the front axle or something because when you measure the height of the mower with a tape measure to the blades from floor the front is lower than back... Not sure if that's normal
C is supposed to be 3.25" and I was mowing there this summer as well. D would be 2.75 but I put the back at D and the front on E (one notch lower) so that the cut is close to 2.5" - It won't be exactly that height but it's close and the only way to really do the in between cut heights.
Looking good. Always having issues with my Timemaster's personal pace system. The cable is pulled all the way down toward the mower and it still barely moves. Have you had any issues with yours?
No I really haven't. I tighten it up a little over time things start to wear but normally works perfect for me. That's strange on yours.
Your belts are probably getting worn out. Either that or you need to tighten the cable that engages the drive
Really nice your hard work paid off ;-)
Thanks!
What kind fertilizer were you using in the back yard???
StaGreen is the brand. I got it at Lowes.
I too went with perennial rye!! Great choice!! How do you like that sure can gas can? Any problems with it?
I like it. No problems so far and it's much easier to avoid splashing gas everywhere or dealing with leaky cans.
Hey Ryan can you post the KBG cultivars you have in the back yard? Very curious to know. Thanks!
Diva, Famous, Guinness, and Dragon. There are probably some newer blends that are much better but that was what the company put down back in 2012.
You should make a video talking about the varieties you chose and why. Are there any pro sports fields using any of these varieties?
I actually didn't choose them so that would be the issue. I had it done by a local company when I really didn't know a single thing about lawn care but in the future, I'll probably start another project where I pick out everything.
As always...great video. I'm 7 weeks into a kbg reseed and although it's up and filling in it's no where as need as yours. Growing kbg is like watching paint dry (actually much slower)...but it's so worth it. You plan on throwing down some lime or urea?
I hit it with fertilizer before some rain yesterday. It was higher nitrogen mainly quick release but not quite as strong as urea.
I just did the same on labor day weekend. It popped up okay, but it's stalled out at 1.5". I'm gonna throw down some #milorganite this weekend.
Aeration & dethatching really beat the vitality out of my kbg.
Hoping to dominate again by Halloween!
Do you topdress your lawn with compost? Have you ever topdressed your lawn? If not, consider topdressing the lawn, especially after aerating.
Question. I see you use the side discharge while cutting. Curious to know why you do that instead of mulching.
Thanks...
I have not topdressed it yet but may in the future. Here's a video I made on why I side discharge : czcams.com/video/VAmQXbpXQiM/video.html
Got it. Thanks
Glad you brought out the Big Boy mower again. I purchased a 2017 Time Master this past Saturday. When you say 2 and a half inches do you mean 2 and a quarter or 2 three-quarters? I don't think the machine does 2 and half. I'm trying to figure out how high to cut my turf type tall fescue lawn this time of year.
Rob J tall fescue you want to keep higher..3.5 at the lowest during spring and late fall, 4+ in the summer months
You can do in between steps by having the back of the deck one notch higher than the front and actually I find that it cuts better this way.
You want to measure the grass blades after a test strip of mowing. I own a Time Master as well cutting Bermuda grass in SC with red clay as a soil. Bermuda likes to be cut low but can be easily scalped when cutting on uneven terrain. Depending on your soil type/moisture and levelness it can vary your heights when cutting. With Tall Fescue being a "bunch type" grass, scalping will be the death of it. Better to error on the higher mowing height IMO.
ryanknorr Thanks, didn't think about that.
I was wondering if I can put down a fungicide and plant new grass seed at the same time. If you could respond I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!
Read the label but I believe that a fungicide may help with your seeding.
The label will tell you. Always read the label!
What kind of blades do you use on your Timemaster? I recently picked up Oregon Gator blades from Walmart. It is a great mulching blade especially when mulching leaves.
I have the stock set from Toro and an extra set that I believe are Oregon. They both look identical in design though so the stock toro ones are "gator" type as well.
I'm assuming hight C you used right? Also what letter do you go to in winter E or D??
To get roughly 2.5 I'm using D in the back and E in the front. I'll probably stay around this height for winter or maybe a little lower and go on the E setting.
Nice lawn. Let's go Flyers!
I used to be a flyers fan but now of course, Wild!
How often did you mow with that mower during the summer months?
Depends on the rain we're getting but somewhere around every 4-5 days.
Great video. Do you ever mulch with the timemaster? If not, why?
I made a video on just that topic. czcams.com/video/VAmQXbpXQiM/video.html
The backyard looks great.. what four Blends are you using ??? We're having a bit of the same heat here in Northern California still in the high 80s.. My reno of KBG needs a heat break.. Still in the Sprout & pout mode.. BTW.. You deserve the shout-out from Lawn Care nut..
The blend is Diva, Famous, Guinness, and Dragon. It's an older mix from a local company. Thanks for kind words. Good luck with your project!
Excellent video as always Ryan! Love the look of your Kentucky Blue in your backyard. Have you done any weed prevention this fall? Just curious. That perennial rye is amazing stuff. Keep up the great work!
No weed prevention and I do have some clover and things starting to pop up now. I'll be taking care of that once the grass recovers a little more. Thanks for watching!
I been watching your channel since LCN shoutout. You will be getting a lot of his traffic young man
Welcome and thank you for checking out the videos!
Good music good video
Thanks!
Congrats Ryan;) You totally deserve the mention by LCN. Keep up the good work, what roller do you run on the time master again? Was it the checkmate, homemade or Toro? Can't remember.
Most of the time I don't run anything on it (as you saw in this video) but I have a homemade one I made earlier this year. I actually use that more as a push roller on its own and not attached to the mower. There's a video on it on my channel if you want to see more about that. Thanks!
Hey Ryan I see your using the Toro Timemaster. Have you had any issues with it. I work at a local Home Depot in upstate NY.
Every Timemaster we sell comes back with the same problem. The gears all wear out very quickly because they are made out of plastic. With the price of this mower you'd think they would make them hydro static. Could you let me know if I should buy this mower because it looks like it does a great job.Keep up the great lawn work your doing it looks fantastic.
Thanks Greg
To be honest I bought the original timemaster version when it came out in 2013 and then bought this new one in 2017 and I've had very little problems (knock on wood). Any issues I have had were covered under warranty by a local dealer so I can't complain. I have heard some bad reviews on this new one in terms of them breaking down quickly but haven't experienced it myself. Maybe it's luck of the draw?
Another great video!
How often does Toro update the Timemaster models?
Having a bigger yard, I’d love to get one. However the wife is fighting me on this. My mower now is only a year old but does a fantastic job so I can’t complain too much.
I bought the original when it came out in 2013 I believe. Then the refresh was this year 2017 so probably won't see many changes for a while.
ryanknorr thanks for the info! Home Depot by me has some discounted Timemasters but I’m guessing those were returns.
If I do get one, I’ll by a new one. There’s a dealer by my house that offers a three year warranty. Which intrigues me as it seems like some people have had bad luck with them. However seems like you and LCN haven’t had any issues and highly recommends them.
You need a flashlight to see that domination line it’s so dark
Lawn looks good Ryan. Hey a while back, didn't you have a little white dog following you around the yard?
Glad to hear that all is well.
Yes one is 13 and starting to show the old age but the other is 9 and still pretty spunky. I'll see if they can make another appearance soon.
I know about the age. My dog will be 10 on Oct 19 and in the past year he's had surgery on both rear knees. He thinks he's still a pup but his hind legs tell him different.
Yes they don't seem to remember their age and it catches up with everyone and everything eventually.
I think you've just overstress your lawn. Give it time and it will recover. The thing I don't like with ryegrass is the color, never as dark green as KBG! I wouldn't overseed with ryegrass in your backyard for that reason. I did and this drives me insane! Anyway, great result in the front yard Ryan!
The blend from seed super store is actually darker than my KBG. In my next video you should get an idea of the color.
Cut high! For better benefits! Keeps the weeds to a minimum and wont dry out your lawn!
Waukee Warriors? An Iowan?
Yeah I live in Central Iowa
Is that creeping Charlie around the tree?? 😬
Why yes it is. That will be fixed very soon. :)
What are you consulting fees ?? I'm ready to pay for your plane ticket to work on my grass with me beautiful lawn. LOL
:)
whats up with the rave music lol
Just something a little different.
