When this video dropped my first thought was bet they'll be a Steely Dan find. Sure enough you got a great one. Well done you.

Never knew that “round” version of Big Express even existed! I’m currently collecting all the Ape House reissues (starting with the 3DEP)…absolutely fantastic band.

Enjoyed the video as usual, Tim. Happy Holidays and Happy New Year! You should go see The Eagles...they put on a great show > 3 hours of nothing but great songs.

Some great pick ups Tim. Love the Throwing Muses and The Real Ramona and University have been on my want list for sometime. Congratulations on finding a good copy. I see there are some European pressings and I'm curious to know how they sound versus the US but I'd be happy with any to be honest. I have a Cure Seventeen Seconds reissue placeholder, not sure if the UK press is the way to go or not on an OG. Nice score on VU Loaded as well. I really appreciate your curated approach to collecting and your determination to stick to records stores for most of your finds.

Nice vid, and congrats on the Martyn, I have championed him and that LP for 50 years now. I have the UK OG. I found several hundred this year, everything from Bill Anderson to Parliament, but my top two: Howlin’ Wolf’s Moanin’ in the Moonlight, mint first press according to Discogs, and the 30th anniversary DSOTM, the former was cheap cheap cheap, the latter was far less than normal eBay prices. BTW, I have that same shirt, mine is vintage, wool cotton blend, at least 50 years old.

I listened to Mummer and Big Express non-stop when they came out. I liked them a whole lot more than Skylarking.

Oh wow! I have like the first two original US Throwing Muses albums (House Tornado is one I think, and HunkPapa is the other one...? I'm just remembering off the top, I'm not sure I'm right...) But, I've never heard of this one, I love their offbeat harmony sound and I find their compositions very engaging. Nice find Bro!
Nice score on the UK Closer. I have the 1st US, along with a 1st US of their other one too (the one with the all black cover with the waveform on it)
Oh yeah, I may have mentioned this before, but the 1st German Fiction pressings of both 17 Seconds and especially Faith sound bloody amazing! Yep, I have the same 1st German pressing, lovely!
Heh, nice score on that 1st UK Meddle too!

John Martyn's One World is also a very trippy late night record. His last classic JM album.

Some very nice finds! It never occurred to me that Joy Division's "Closer" could be pronounced as if it means one who closes, rather than nearer, and now I'm wondering which is correct....

I was thinking the same thing! I like that it could have a double meaning/pronunciation but prefer the former. Great selection for 2023 Tim! Looking forward to seeing what you’ll find in 2024. Cheers!

Yes, the ambiguity of the title suits such an existential album. Until Closer came out on CD, many of us thought side one was actually side two with A Means To An End as the final and frightening end of the album.
