- Despite playing at a 57-win pace, the Milwaukee Bucks decided a coaching change was necessary to salvage what was left of an all-in season. Even if the team's dismissal of Adrian Griffin was justified, the optics of replacing Griffin with Doc Rivers are downright hilarious.
The Bucks are merely putting lipstick on a pig … Rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic … Use any metaphor you want. Despite making the biggest move of the offseason and being my preseason title pick - the Bucks are going nowhere this year. And there's nothing Rivers can do to change that.

I never understood why Doc was so highly regarded in the league. He was NEVER good. I didn't think he was good with Boston, he CERTAINLY isn't now. I couldn't believe it when they voted this guy as one of 4 "great" coaches. Especially when we're considering someone like D'Antoni who started the small ball, and fast offense trend in the NBA all the way back in the 00's got left out. How is he still getting a job lol
No, he's good. But thats it. He can build a terrible team to a low playoff seed. He sucks at taking an average team to the top, or converting a contender to a champion.

the defensive woes are not any bucks coaches fault, the drop coverage a slow but dominant big like Brook Lopez demands NEEDS a perimiter defender to chase over the screen, Jrue was one of the best for this and now they have Damian lillard one of the worst, it's just a bad fit.
the bucks need to trade for a solid 3&D guy but they're broke. the best option available is probably royce o'neal if they send malik beasly and some swaps or petty picks or something mabye get a third team involved but he's not a great shooter or perimiter defender really so I wouldn't love the Bucks chances either way. They should've just traded Khris middleton for a wing star instead of Jrue for a pointguard star it was a big mistake considering their defensive scheme.
Idk man, in griffins last 11 games with the Bucks, they were giving up 126 ppg. In the 6 games since he's been gone, they have yet to even give up 120 pts in any of those games. They also LOOK more comfortable with no one putting their hands up in confusion like they did EVERY game of the season with Griffin at the helm. Doc has simplified the defense, and it now more closely mirrors the D they ran under Bud. Griffin had them applying too much pressure and switches at the top of the key and wings. It looks far better already
you're probably right things might be better with doc rivers but he can only mitigate the underlying problems and isn't enginuitive enough to fix them. Im not trying to argue that griffins scheme was good but that the more significant factor was the lack personell.@@kylecraig6789
What's matter with all these groupies living in denial. The picture clear as ice Dame is the problem with Milwaukee not Griffin not Doc but Dame. Giannis never needed a greedy iso scoring point guard who lack defense, court vision and IQ and not effective playing off the ball. Giannis had alwsys needed a true playmaker point guard that's the problem.

Man got lucky on getting to coach the Celtics Big 3 and just because of that he get's regarded as an all time great.
I think the problem with Adrian Griffin is that people look at his record with the Bucks and think that things were going fine. No, they were not. I highly recommend you read that CBS article which explains all the core problems which came with Griffin's coaching style and moves. The guy was truly making some boneheaded moves where even Giannis and the other players had to correct him regarding defensive plays and clutch moments. It was a good move getting rid of this rookie head coach who shouldn't have even gotten the job in the first place, since there is no time to learn from your mistakes when you are trying to win a championship right now.
Doc Rivers is a bad choice overall, but it makes perfect if you view him as just an interim head coach. I am sure he will be fired at the end of the season when the Bucks find a more suitable head coach.
Doc Rivers is a mid level coach at best. He got 1 chip with a superteam 16 years ago and is still milking it to this day. Other than that, he's had a history of blowing 3-1 leads in the playoffs due to his inability to make adjustments.

I’m sure Doc. Rivers prepares his team as well as any coach. It’s not his fault if they don’t bring it to the court. Defense is want to, and effort. The players are mostly responsible.

Its hard to take anyone serious that doesn't actually watch them on the regular. Anyone that is a semi knowledgeable basketball fan and ACTUALLY watches the bucks every night can tell you that Griffin HAD to go. They will also tell you that in the 6 games since Griffin left, the defense has looked FAR better. In Griffin's last 11 games, he had them giving up 126 ppg. In just these past 6 games, milwaukee is giving up 115 ppg. They also look WAY more in sync and comfortable out there. No blown coverages. No one standing around in confusion with their hands in the air. For ME, it's plain to see that they've turned a corner. Theyve still got more improving to do, and adding another defensive minded wing will help, but im confident milwaukee is going to have a great 2nd half of the season.

I think what people misunderstand about Doc Rivers, at least in terms of why he keeps getting jobs, is that he's actually a good coach. You don't get to the playoffs and earn 3-1 leads for being terrible. His problem is adjusting to the adjustments his competitors make. That's a big problem, no doubt, but for teams that are in or around "Win Now Mode" you don't want some coach that wasn't good enough to already have a job or someone new like when Ty Lue got his first chance, you want a known commodity. Let the Pistons or Wizards take a chance on the next Ty Lue. Milwaukee and Giannis need someone that commands respect and regardless of what the media or average fans seem to think, Doc Rivers isn't viewed around the league the way he is by us. Owners and players do actually respect him. What remains to be seen is if he can overcome what's become a glaring flaw: Does he learn to adjust or will he implement a strong enough game plan that he can stick to it without adjusting?

Doc gets a bad rep.. he had Harden bum ass in Philly and Ben Simmons. The Clippers never had the best roster in the west.. nobody used context when talking about Doc
Stop it, he's had some amazing rosters especially those clipper teams. For God's sake they were up 3-1 on the rockets during that clippers run and still managed to mess that up. It's more of an outlier that the year he did win (Celtics 2008) the team he had was extremely different and stacked compared to any other team in the league at that time...once the heat caught up to that formula and had 3 stars we saw the downfall to the Celtics and unfortunately Doc Rivers couldn't adjust to get them over the hurdle...
