    You guys seem like really positive people, thank you for the video! It seems like Torres del Paine beat El Chalten in terms of views but the convenience on that Fitz Roy hike also seems attractive. Hopefully I can do both! I would probably skip Moreno Glacier (just to save money) because I used to guide glacier kayaking in alaska so I've had the chance to get close up and personal with glaciers.

    Amazing video with lots of tips, thank you guys! Going there in March so very excited 🥳 you mentioned about paying flights in cash direct with the airline and only paying 55%. Do you know if that’s the same for all their flights? Or was this a one off deal? Thanks!

    • @SomethingToRemember
      @SomethingToRemember  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Glad to hear it was helpful!
      The flights worked out 45% cheaper because we withdrew Argentinian Pesos from Western Union and then used that cash to pay for the flights in the Argentinas Aerolineas office in Buenos Aires.
      It’s not a deal or anything like that, it’s just a matter of getting your money at the “blue dollar” exchange rate and then using that cash to pay for everything. Western Union is how to get money at the blue dollar rate. Hope this helps 😊

      @SomethingToRemember  Před 10 měsíci

      Yeah, that’s exactly right! On the hikes it was usually sunny and warm so we would be wearing tee shirts… But when we reached the lagoon at Fitzroy, for example, the wind was very strong 💨 You’ll love it, just bring layers and you’ll be fine 😊

  • @miminavan
    @miminavan Před 9 měsíci

    This is very helpful! Which Western Union did you go to? I'm a little scared about booking a domestic flight to El Calafate on the same day through Aerolineas Argentina using the blue dollar rate because I fear that the flights will all be booked up if I don't book in advance. Was it truly that easy for you to book a flight on the same day to Ushuaia when you went in January (peak season)?

    • @SomethingToRemember
      @SomethingToRemember  Před 9 měsíci

      Hi, thanks for your comment 😊 The Argentinas Aerolinas office is actually in the centre of Buenos Aires so we went there to book our flights with cash around 5/6 days before we wanted to go to Ushuaia. There are Western Unions all over Buenos Aires too - we used several, it doesn’t matter which one you go to 😊

      Hi! We were there in January and we got reaaaally nice weather (apart from the windy conditions in Ushuaia but I think we were just unlucky there).
      As for WU, if you’ve been sending money to your friend it should be really simple for you… Just sent it to your name instead & make sure you select Argentina as the receiving country and put in your name exactly as it appears on your passport 😊 Definitely use Western Union… It saved us A LOT of money!

    How stunning is Patagonia! I was wondering if you got to see Cerro Torre, which lies directly behind Fitzroy? Had the reputation of being not only the most beautiful mountain, but also the most difficult and dangerous climb in the world. It was very controversial because an Italian mountaineer called Maestri, had taken a portable compressor up with him and destroyed the climb by drilling and inserting hundreds of bolts, making it easy for every one.

      Right but I am thinking of hiring a driver because the day tours are too long and would make me miss the bus out of town. On the other hand, if even a private tour would take too long, then I just have to reconcile with staying over night, so I would like to know how long it would take privately.

      Hi! In Patagonia, it is definitely better to make sure you have a good opportunity to get good weather rather than trying to avoid the crowds… So, we’d say go during peak season when the weather is good and try to go to places as early in the morning as possible to get there before the tour buses 😊

      1. Download Western Union app and set up an account.
      2. Send yourself money (use your own name as it appears on your passport) to be collected in cash in Argentina.
      3. Use your bank card to pay through the app.
      4. Take your passport, a copy of your passport and a screenshot of the number you receive when you complete the transaction on the app to any Western Union in Argentina (opening times and times for foreign exchange transactions vary from location to location).

      In general, no… The only place we saw signs saying “we accept dollars” was in tourist hotspots like El Chalten in Patagonia, and even then they would give you your change back in Argentinian Pesos.
      Their currency is very much Argentinian Pesos, not dollar or euro…
