  • When abortion is illegal and restricted, all aspects of sexual, reproductive, and maternal health are affected. Today marks two years since the US Supreme Court's Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization decision, which overturned the historic Roe v. Wade ruling and the recognition of safe abortion care as a constitutional right. We’ve witnessed firsthand how restricting access to abortion harms the health and wellbeing of the people who need it.
    Transcript:
Safe abortion care is essential health care. It's been two years since the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade and the constitutional right to abortion. Let's talk about it.
MSF doesn't currently work in the US, but we do provide safe abortion care and treatment for complications from unsafe abortion around the world. Country to country, the restrictions and the challenges are different.
But as a physician who has worked in many countries, I recognize the similarities. No matter where they live, people who are denied access to safe abortion care are at greater risk for complications than those who can access safe care. That can be because they are forced to carry an unintended pregnancy to term with its ensuing complications, or because they are forced to access unsafe means for abortion.
Another similarity are the economic and psychosocial ramifications of carrying an unintended pregnancy. That's why safe abortion care is an essential part of comprehensive health care.
A few years ago, I was on assignment with MSF. In a country where abortion is restricted. One night, a woman came in heavily bleeding with a life-threatening complication of pregnancy. She needed us to provide safe abortion care to save her life.
The staff gathered quickly to decide how we would care for her. Not everyone agreed about abortion, but despite our differing convictions and values, we all were united by a single truth that we were there to help reduce her suffering. And that's what we agreed to do. The patient went on to receive high-quality and safe care within our MSF facility.
She was able to survive and she and her family were so grateful. At MSF, we see firsthand that restricting abortion only harms the health and well-being of the people who need it. Anyone who seeks an abortion, no matter their reason, is deserving of high-quality and dignified care.

There is not enough innocent blood being shed in the world right now? This is what you’re choosing to focus on?
Specific cases of women that would die without a life-saving abortion is not the issue. Connecting that to having abortion on demand for any reason is a whole other issue. And it really has no place in an organization like this that is supposed to be non partisan.
Can we focus on saving human beings instead of focusing energy on snuffing out the next generation?

This is total political nonsense. Read Roe v Wade It said abortion was not a constitutional issue, with the sole exception that under the "right to life" protection a women had a right to an abortion to save her life. The idea of abortion for any at any time, for any reason what so ever, was never indicated in Roe. It's a figment of your imagination.
Dobbs did not "over turn Roe, it simply restated Roe more clearly. There is zero under the Constitutional law to address elective abortion, so therefore take it up with your state law makers to have something to rule on. Stop villainizing the Supreme Court. For elective abortions there is nothing there for constitutional judges (liberal or conservative) to rule on.
And stop the nonsense telling us about your experiences in some horrible foreign lands as being representative of US healthcare. That's pure rubbish.
