- As people who didn't grow up in the era of disco and pop, we have to say that I'm pleasantly surprised by this song! Andy's vocals are just so smooth and effortless, it's no wonder he became such a big name outside of his brothers' shadow! The disco era had the game in a chokehold in the 70's! It's definitely a product of its time, but it's also a testament to the enduring power of a well-crafted pop song.

Andy set a record for having his first 3 singles go to #1. The first 2 were I JUST WANT TO BE YOUR EVERYTHING and LOVE IS THICKER THAN WATER. He hosted Solid Gold for a bit and was in high demand on all the variety shows, so has tons of videos from his few short active years. Please react to one of the only videos we have of the four brothers performing live - The Bee Gees with Andy Gibb YOU SHOULD BE DANCING 1979 LIVE. They announced that Andy was working on a solo album, was going to join them on tour, and was even supposed to officially join The Bee Gees. Those concerts would definitely have sold out!!! So sad it didn’t happen. Thanks for keeping the music alive.

Written by big brothers, mainly Barry, they sang backup! Barry is the. Oldest brother and he lost all his little brothers. Andy was born 1958 and died soon after he turned 30. Died of miocarditis (sp???) ( inflammation of the heart that was weakened from years os cocaine abuse. He was born in Manchester England and buried in Las Angela’s. Sad thing was the same year he died, later that year he was to join his brothers in the BeeGees ( something he really wanted). Btw, the same year he was born, the whole family emigrated to Australia. They have an older sister Leslie too. She still lives in Australia and is a dog breeder and has 9 or 10 children.
He did NOT die of an overdose. He died of a heart infection called myocarditis. He died 5 days after his 30th birthday.

My older cousin introduced me to great music from a young age. I was about 10 yrs old when she bought Andy's new single "I just want to be your everything" & she had me come over to hear it. She played it over & over on a constant loop, until we both had the lyrics memorized. I turned 56 this year & I still know every word of that song & "Shadow Dancing". Those two songs have been burned into my long term memory, so I'll still be able to sing it verbatim when I'm in my 80's or 90's... if my body lasts that long - LOL. Andy was my first pop artist crush. I was a total fan-girl. I had T-shirts with his photo on them, full size posters, and magazine cut outs all over my bedroom walls.
I'm so glad more people are starting to discover the music of the "baby Bee Gee" brother. Even though Andy was 12 years younger than Barry (the oldest), they could have been twins. They share very similar facial features & vocal sound. Barry & Andy looked more like twins than the actual fraternal twins, Robin & Maurice did - LOL
Andy is the baby of the family & he was still little when his older brothers hit it big on the music charts back in the 1960's. With the help of his brothers, Andy embarked upon a solo career, which he was very successful at, even in the short amount of time he created music. He put out a few albums, appeared on many TV shows, & also hosted a variety show called SOLID GOLD that did weekly countdowns of the most popular songs of the time. On occasion, he joined The Bee Gees while on their concert tours or TV specials. Sadly, he died just a few days past his 30th birthday (1988) from a heart condition, which was greatly exacerbated by years of alcohol & drug use. He was the youngest, but the first to pass away. Then twin #1 Maurice died in 2003, followed by the other twin, Robin in 2012. Barry, the oldest boy and his sister, Leslie (first born) are the last two surviving Gibb siblings left...
RIP Andy Gibb came to prominence in the late 1970s through the early 1980s with eight singles reaching the Top 20 of the US Hot 100, three of which went to number one: "I Just Want to Be Your Everything" (1977), "(Love Is) Thicker Than Water" (1977), and "Shadow Dancing" (1978). Peace out.
That's my baby Andy was my favorite of the brother's Gibb he was a solo artist and very talented in his own right no one can take anything away from him. I get cringy when sweet Andy is compared to Barry everyone can have him, ill stick with Andy he's my sweetie. He was 30 when he left this world.

Andy had THREE albums. There's so much good music waiting for you. His first album "Flowing Rivers" is best. Some of the songs lean towards country rock. I'm almost jealous that you'll be listening to his music for the first time.

You know what's weird? We sometimes giggle at things from the past, the music, disco, their hair etc, but the next generation that's coming in the future will all be pointing back at us and doing the same thing, giggling about our music, our hair, our styles, etc. That does seem weird to think about, lol...

Yes he was the youngest Gibb. He died from heart complications due to his prior drug use. He was actually going to join the Bee Gees right before he died. May all the brothers rest in peace. Olli if you don't know any bee gee songs you are missing out. You have to check out Fanny Be Tender with my love and Midnight Special Nights on Broadway two songs that are not disco. The Bee Gees are not a disco band. They actually were more considered R & B
Just a little information tidbit in case you never knew this, but just before Andy Gibb died they were working on bringing him into the group The Bee Gees the family group but he died of the drug overdose before that could happen. And Andy did do a couple AB songs with the Bee Gees on tour a time or 2. Andy sang the song You Should Be Dancing with his brothers on stage and he also sings a version of the song Words that his brother Barry also sings and of course they each sing that song separately. A lot of people think the Andes Talent is like a clone of his brother Barry's Talent.
Andy never died of a drug overdose.

Andy is not look like the younger version of his great older brother Barry is sounds also and wrote all his three #1 smashers from 1977 to 1979 - he was Hollywoods young rising star and handed around, everybody wants Andy as a act in his show, he was later engaged a few years with actor Victoria Principal from the mega show Dallas in the eighties and when they were separated - it goes down with his career and his drug addiction who cost him his life finally ten years later 😞

Andy was born with a bad heart and died of a heart infection! The years of drug abuse definitely had an impact on his condition. Andy was clean and had left LA to get away from his vices; he was living in the UK with Robin when he died. How about mentioning what a great songwriter Barry is! Andy was going to become a part of The Bee Gees in 1980 but he died before he could become a part of them.

What makes this good is his brothers doing the harmonic backup singing imho. Hope you react to more Beegees hits like "Nights on Broadway" or "How Deep is your Love". The reason the BeeGees were just standing in "Fever" is the studio sold that song to sell John Travolta's dancing, so i think the studio werent allowed to upstage Travolta. Travolta's dancing wasnt that great- ruined the song for me.

Boy was a chick magnet! He was with Olivia Newton John in her prime. He screwed it all up with drugs.
He never dated ONJ, & yes he had a drug problem, but was clean when he died.
He ikilled himself.

This is an R & B song. Not disco!.
This is a lip synch performance. He's even lip synching the "Aha" adlib in between which is actually Barry's voice from the recording. And I'd rather have people standing motionless on stage but singing perfectly like the Gibb brothers did, than dance their asses off and lip synching or "singing" totally off key or in weak ass voices.
Andy was kind of Barry's mini me, about half a foot shorter and 12 years younger but they were the only lefties of the family. However, his voice was nowhere near as broad in range or as strong as Barry's. As producer Alby Galuten said in the book "Tales of the brothers Gibb "Andy's falsetto was nowhere near Barry's." Andy had a lower, huskier, sound to his voice and his range was not as big as Barry's. I personally always thought his voice was much better suited to songs of his first album, Flowing Rivers. Andy died of myocarditis - which is an inflammation of the heart - on March 10, 1988, 5 days after his 30th birthday. His heart had been weakened by his drug addiction over the years which, by the way, was also the main reason for his split from Victoria Principal. He also had a congenital heart problem that was later also discovered in Barry and Barry's second son Ashley.
