Sony: The Fan is one of the hardware pieces that can get ruined more easily... lets put it in the hardest place possible
Bruh the hardest thing is the star screws I’m trying to unscrew it cause I have diffrent types of screws that I use
THIS is how you "clean the fan". The other videos are just temp fixes and if you have this design of the ps4, as you can see in this video if you only clean the fan from the back opening then the heat sink will end up super clogged over time and eventually lead to overheating. I did this a couple years ago but now I need to do it again. Always nice to have a good video to guide me even though I've done the job before. Should be a fun night. Great video, thanks!
Appreciate it my bro, was hella skeptical about taking whole thing apart but with your in depth tutorial I was able to replace the fan just today as the old one had completely ceased. Works like brand new and it’s all thanks to you my bro! Keep it up u got a new sub
Thank you Kingsley, I just cleaned my ps4 yesterday and I wondered why it still sounded like a jet so i watched this video to see what else I need to clean and I didnt realize that there is that other part where it has a huge clump of thick dust and now my ps4 a silent. Thank you
Probably the most amazing tutorial out there. Thank you
What a very easy to understand tutorial you did such a great job. My PlayStation's so quiet now, you're the best!! Very easy and simple tutorial to understand, highly recommended
Very Informative vid ✊🏿 I have watched a few and none of them went into detail with full explanation for every step AND reassembly which is a huge + I'm fully confident in replacing the fan on my son's PS4 now! Thanks for taking the time!
Thank you for answering my question Kingsley, but the way I also forgot to mention that I watched SO MANY VID in how to clean your PS4 and your VID is the BEST VID out there, you really gave so many details and the most important thing you took the time to explained and give details how do things CORRECTLY .... once again THANK YOU ... I hope you get a lot subscribers!!
Thanks for the kind comment ☺️
Thank you so much man, I had tried cleaning my PS4 so many times before this but keep running into the same issues. Finally gave it a thorough clean, swapped out the fan and applied thermal paste using your instructions and now I cant even hear it! You’ve earned a new subscriber
I actually enjoyed myself doing it for 3H, totally worth it and it works brilliantly - Thank you so much Kingsley!
Thanks for this! I followed another "deep clean" video a few months back, but it didn't go into nearly this much detail and though it improved a bit I've still had problems. From that 6:15 reveal I'm sure there's still a lot of dust packed in there, and my fan could use replacing.
i have liked and subscribed and im realllly grateful for this mate 🔥 my ps4 went from sounding like a sports car to the most silent thing ever 😂💯 i suggest everyone to follow the process and recieve the result which is truely progressive and real.
By far the best tutorial I've seen for this. I followed other videos but they didn't even mention the heatsink and only showed the fan. I was so used to my PlayStation sounding like a hairdryer it feels odd now because its dead silent
Great teardown thank you so much. Very detailed video, finally able to get into ps4 for the first time!
This is a very helpful tutorial just got an old friends ps4 in best condition yesterday it's just a bit dusty thinking of doing all of this to make sure it won't overheat when in use and thermal paste is all in check 🙂
From start to finish a excellent Video helped me do some deep cleaning and fixing of my ps4. My son had put change in the optical drive. Was able to fully clean and reassemble thanks to this guide.
Straight too the point I fallowed every step and now it don't sound like a jet or over heats nice and quiet thanks a million 🙌🤓
thank you! was able to replace my sons ps4 fan and clean it out because it was over heating. Followed this guide and was flawless.
Thanks so much! I've taken it apart to clean before but this was so thorough and helpful. I used it to do some spot cleaning and change the fan. Just in time because my son's been waiting to play a new expansion and the old fan went kaput 2 days ago lol.
Really appreciate this video , I cleaned mine but wasn't happy with it and found your video of a proper strip down thank you
Thank you for this video. Just had to clean the fan and this video was perfect walkthrough on how to do it.
Thanks so much. This video is literally a life saver, I dont know why it doesnt have more likes
Thank you for this tutorial. My PS4 kept crashing the last couple of nights and I figured it was over-heating because of the strange noise the fan was making. I thought I'd need to take it in for actual repair but because of this video I was able to clean it out completely, including the fan and heat sink. What probably would've cost me a couple hundred only cost me $18 just to get a compressed air can and the thermal paste!
Again, Thanks!
Great tutorial man, some constructive criticism though, when you show how to reassemble, it would make it a lot easier to follow with like a color coded CG to show where the screws go back in. Extremely grateful, I just had to pause and re-watch the video to keep up on it. Thank you!
Q
My pS4 kept shutting off and I had no solution. I wasn't trying to pour more money into this thing because I'm trying to upgrade to a PS5. The PS4 gave out on me. I watched this video, cleaned my fan and now it works completely fine. Thank you sir.
Probably the best video I've ever seen! Thanks man! 🙏😎
Finally a real deep cleaning tutorial for the ps4 ,thanks alot
USING FLAT HEADS ON T9 SCREWS WERE AN AMAZING IDEA I WAS ABLE TO UNSCREW THE STUCK ONES TOO THANK YOU BROTHER KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
Very well made video, easy to follow
Very detailed video. Thank you for your efforts!
My ps4 is insanely quiet, thank you, also your voice is magnificent
Thank you so fing much dude. You got a new subscriber keep up the great work.
I changed my Video Output to 720p and it is so much quieter.Thank You
Thanks for this! You've saved our PS4! :D We can now play Dark Souls 3 and hear things we've never heard before.... it's even more unnerving that usual lol! :D
Amazing tutorial, thanks for making this.
2 years later but I gotta say thanks man! This was the best tutorial I've seen
took me a couple of hours but thank you bro first time doing this just walked me thru it
Best tutorial even helped me avoid ripping stuff thanks
This was by far the best tutorial
Great teardown, thanks!
Amazing tutorial 👏 thank you bro
It was very easy,my PS4 from 2015 was like a airplane before i cleaned it,now i cant hear it!Thanks dude appreciate it!
Kingsley you are a gentleman and a scholar! I just replaced the fan and thermal paste on my 1215a model that I purchased all the way back in 2014!!! Your guide made me feel sooo much more confident. I've taken cars apart before but never electronics Lol but you were so in depth that it was easy mode. Thank you and keep up the great work! 🙇🏽♂️✊🏼
Appreciate the comment, cheers!
Will this improve frame rate somewhat or graphical issues? I just took mine apart but the way way, I haven't gone in depth like this video. Also, can I still take all of this apart without putting new thermal paste? My PS4 doesn't overheat, but I've noticed some frame rate issues
Do you know if the 1000/1100 fan can be used on 1200? The connector can be cut and joined. Wana know cos the 1200 fan is a little more than 2 times the cost of 1100.
Great tutorial 👍
Thank you so much my dude!
good detailed vid bro
Best tutorial ever thank you
Literally 1st tutorial with brief explanation
thank you! you helped me fix my ps4!
Followed this guide after what seems to be the original fan motor had blown. Is it a very low slight humming noise that should only be heard now as I still can't determine if the replacement fan is working lol. This was a fantastic tutorial thank you so much very helpful and informative
Now I think the disc drive isn't working since I've replaced the fan is their something I might have done to cause this or have I missed something when putting it back together, edit: reopened it and checked connectors and somehow working now
One of the best tutorials I have seen really help me and I wanted to ask if you could do one for like the Xbox 360 or the PS3 please
Thank you! I have an old PS3 there, maybe I'll do one it but I can't promise as I rarely upload
Alright it's okay if you can't but thank you for the good tutorial for the PS4
Great video!
thanks for the video...is there any alternative product to use to clean the old thermal paste before applying new paste ? thanks in advance
99% isopropyl alcohol as it evaporates swiftly and doesn’t leave behind any sort of residue.
Good job!👍👍👍
Bro legit this vid is insane tysm g my ps4 legit sounds like sonyairlines lol
I LOVE YOUR VIDEO.
IM WAITING TO BUY PS5, HOWEVER I HAVE TO TAKE CARE AND CLEAN MY LOVED PS4. 😋
I liked your video is really helpful... I have a question, there is going to be a problem If you don’t add the terminal paste ???
Yes, the thermal paste is needed. It's like your car not having engine coolant.
Thank you very much!
I have jsut used this vid to clean my heatsink and its gone from sounding like a jumbo jet on takeoff to whisper quiet, even on Warzone. Thank you 😊
Did the noise go down? I’m dealing with a lot of noise in mine. I only recently found out you can take off the whole mother board. I knew it was possible but when I was having problems in 2016. Most videos suggested you don’t take everything apart. Which is weird to me now but I believe the fans weren’t a big problem at that point. I just need mine to not sound like a jet engine taking off to Atleast a subtle rumble. I want to put money down to lessen it but if it’s about the same there’s no reason to do it.
Kingsley's after watching your video i decided to start doin a deep clean on my ps4. Just one question is it a must to remove the optical disk drive to remove the fan? and does not removing the optical disk drive and cleaning cause any problems when done?
As far as I remember it can be done without removing the Optical Drive, however, because this video is a full teardown I decided to remove it. It only takes a few seconds to remove it, I recommend you do that, as you can see from my video, dust still gets into it.
Thank you bro have been suffering for 4 years
Thank you!
Where do you get the thermal paste and which brand do you recommend
ok I manged to get I re pasted and put everything back to way it was, I think I have to open it up and resit optical drive though I dont think i sitting straight cause the disk stop getting pulled in at difrent place each time i try
i have cuh 1116A model ps4 so can you tell me what fan works with it? i need to buy new one...
Great job and OMG, I couldn't get anything this dirty if I tried, it amazes me people will spend hundreds on systems and NEVER do any PMS, is crazy.
I’ve followed the entire thing word for word and when I turn my PS4 on it overheated after 2 minutes on the dot what do think I could’ve done wrong? Could it possibly be the amount of thermal paste I put on as I put on around the size of a pea but maybe I need more?
Never mind I’ve figured it out my new fan isn’t spinning so I think it’s not wired properly
ended up with 2 t9s when putting back together, who knows where they went....
I appreciate to your repairing in old controller PS4. ❤❤❤❤❤ But me too I repairing my controller PS4 slim but so I am so very happy. I want to subscribe you
THIS IS W VIDEO😎
Can you play straight away after putting the thermal paste on and assembling the ps4? Or does it have a setting time?
You can turn it on right away, it's even better if you do that, it'll activate the paste.
It’s physically impossible to remove any of the wires in my PlayStation without damaging wires…
How will I'm able to open the power supply if the phillip screws are stripped? I need help🥺🥺
I used a spray that makes the bolts weaker and easier to take out then I used like these orange kind bolt cutter things to like screw them out without a screw
Great video but I ended up accidentally removing the power source cable from the motherboard ,I use to much force and the whole thing came out, luckily I was able to solder the cable back and haven't run into any problems so far
Yeah that happens a lot, thankfully the cable is inexpensive to replace anyway.
Thanks for the tutorial! I just followed your instructions step by step except I just decided to use my pressure washer to clean all the pieces to make sure they're spotless. And used bacon grease because I didn't have any thermopaste but for some reason my ps4 just made a really loud buzzing sound when I plugged it in and now it won't turn on..
What did you do wrong because I followed your instructions step by step?!?
You didn't use enough bacon grease. 🥓
@@kingsley15 haha awesome 😄
I just went to best buy and found some good thermal paste. Thank you for real for the tutorial. I've taken my ps4 apart in the past a few times and cleaned the vents and fan but never cleaned the heat sink. Just did it and I couldn't believe how much dust was blocking it. No wonder the fan was running so hard!
I was considering cutting a hole and adding a PC fan until I found your video. Now it runs smooth and quiet like it did when it was new. Thank you again!
@@kingsley15
Also a couple more things. One question maybe you could help me with, I noticed you used a vacuum to suck out the dust. Is that safe? I did that years ago on my ps3 without taking it apart (just sucked out the vents) and it completely stopped working afterwards. Maybe from static electricity? Maybe coincidence? Just curious what I may have done wrong so I can prevent it in the future.
-----------------------------------
And second, I found an awesome screwdriver kit on Amazon a couple of years ago that is perfect for these things and has every kind of bit you'd ever need and if you still haven't gotten a security t9 yet I'd recommend this set. Here's the link if you're interested.
Precision Screwdriver Set, Lifegoo 122pcs Magnetic Repair Tool Kit for iPhone Series/Mac/iPad/Tablet/Laptop/Xbox Series/PS3/PS4/Nintendo Switch/Eyeglasses/Watch/Cellphone/PC/Camera/Electronic www.amazon.com/dp/B07Z913L48/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_BG2AYGTD10B8JR06ER56?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Vacuum is fine as long as there is no power and you are only using it on something that isn't delicate.
@@kingsley15 ok yeah I don't remember for sure but I may have done it while it was plugged in.
I followed the whole tutorial step by step - put it back together after new thermalpaste and cleaning the fan (was totally blocked by dust)
Now it's already sounding like a jet while booting and stays that way... Do you have an idea what went wrong?
Maybe the CPU doesn't "touch" the heatsink anymore or not fully?
Probably a bad fan, you should have replaced it, especially if it was really clogged up. The bearings are probably worn out from it working hard from being clogged.
Or maybe it's the thermal paste, if you don't use enough or it wasn't applied properly then that could be a problem.
I wouldn't worry too much about the PS4 sounding loud, as long as it's not shutting down from over heating. Lots of games, even just at start up, can cause it to sound loud.
@@kingsley15 It's shutting down after 5 minutes :D even tho i'm just in the Menue and the Fan is going crazy... is there a screw which has to be very tight so the CPU touches the "heatsink" parts?
The Fan itself is running more or less smoothly - even without it the passive cooling should be enough for at least letting it run for a while without much going on
I was looking for a teardown video of this model of ps4! Not sure I want to tear down the whole system like you did, then again I not sure I want to do this, but my fan is as loud as it always been, I have no issue do this for pc but consoles are difrrent story sadly
Nah don't worry, it's really not that difficult. Just label what you do
i got as far as take the screw out psu I cant get power cable to come normal that stuff just pulls out fine but this wont, it very clean inside so far though it like really clean comapred you your video,
do I have to take the optical drive out to get other side of the case off?
Ok I could not get the top plastic part off even after take optical drive, so i just put all back together to see it went back to gether and worked, it up and running. gona test a game to make sure everthing up and good, yeah i could not get top plastic off to get to the bottom, what I saw really dust free
i just think it’s so satisfying when people clean heat sinks
I think I've done something wrong, I've put my PlayStation back together and my controller won't connect or is very laggy when it's connected. Do you know what it might be?
The antennae cable is disconnected
How should I keep my screws in order ?
10/10👍👍👍👍
I took my ps4 to get cleaned and to change fan and thermal paste by a console repair shop and now when I connect my controller it takes a while to connect and isnt responsive like it is delayed heavily when scrolling through the menu and when I plug in my headphones I get no audio but I get audio when I use it on my phone. Whats the problem?
It was working 100% fine before the repair
@@Justin-oe2fk the wifi cable in your console will be loose
Could be damage to your HDMI port.
Having small trouble removing the hard drive case on the top sliding to the left made look very easy not so much for me any suggestions?
You probably sorted this already, but for anyone else that may see, it could be that your cover is sticky. Blast it with a hair dryer's heat for about 30 seconds.
I did this just now and I had one T9 screw left at the end lol oh well 🤷🏻♂️
No more loud fan though, that’s what’s important right ? 😂
I replaced my fan using this video. I'm a complete moron with this stuff but the video made it so easy. I messed up somewhere because now I can't even insert a disc. No clue what I did wrong
Sounds like there's no power going to the Drive, I would check the connection again.
What kind of fan is that?
Just clean mine....and guess what...when I finish cleaning..put things back together and then turn it on......nothing shows...my tv is blank...any help????????
if you don't have the security driver you can just snap the pin out and use hex head.
Help me it says that my disc is not in when it was before I tore the ps apart wtf pls help I don't wana loose all my progress
Hello I followed all your steps
I cleaned the fan as it was working fine
The only thing is that I didn’t put the thermal paste on the board .
When I start the ps4 after 10 min it shows me ps4 too hot and shut off
The fan noise is much louder as before.
Can you tell me if the problem is that I didn’t put the thermal paste ????
You didn't reapply thermal paste? Yeah, that is 100% the problem.
Also the fan will be much louder because it's working harder due to more heat.
@@kingsley15 yeah man I didn’t apply thermal paste and the fan sounds like a jet. I’ll try to get one and apply it.Thanks for the video man👍🏽👍🏽
@@vyassangadu2803 Don't turn on you PlayStation any more, untill you apply the thermal paste. You'll end up damaging your chip.
@@kingsley15 okay man
Will apply thermal paste and let you know 👍🏽
Applied thermal paste on it man
No more jet sound it worked fine
Thanks again 👍🏽👍🏽
How do I know which fan I have if I am replacing it. I have a regular ps4 not a pro or slim
Check your model number underneath, it usually starts with CUH.
Did everything. Thought it went smooth . But now it sounds like fan is rubbing against something . Like it's loud
I just changed my fan. Everything works fine until I try to play a game. Put in Resident Evil 2 remake and it works all the way up until I press start at the main screen then my PS4 beeps and turns red for one second. After which it completely shuts off like the power has been disconnected? Any help would be much appreciated.
Did you use thermal paste? I'd start there. The check that the fan is actually compatible.
@@kingsley15 I did not use thermal paste. Everything works except when I try to play a game. I bought the fan and made sure it’s a match to the PS4 model. It’s a 1115a model. I haven’t tried anymore as I’m getting some thermal paste today and don’t want to damage anything until I get it. I’ll have a update. Thank you for the video and your response. I appreciate your time and help!
@@Leon-wf3xf
Yeah that's your problem right there. Thermal paste is extremely important, you didn't follow the steps exactly as shown. Definitely do not use your PS4 until you apply the right paste, otherwise you risk damaging your GPU. There are no shortcuts with things like this, always follow the exact steps.
If I'm just doing a clean no fan replacement would I need to replace the thermal paste
Yeah.
I put everything back together and tried turning my ps4 on and itll beep twoce blue than turn off immediately, pls help
That's usually a connector/power issue. Check your cables, probably the fan connector.
Dude the cable to the power supply literally wont come out it's like stuck in their plz help
You don’t have to unplug the cable from the power supply. Just unplug the cable from the motherboard end and leave it plugged in the power supply. It’s a bit snug so you have to wiggle it off grabbing it from the wires, yes I was a bit afraid to do that too but it won’t break.
Do I need to replace the thermal paste if I do this
Yes.
