    In stills mode, A7IV is able to maintain a clean image despite the boost in megapixels. In video mode, it has a dual base ISO that results in cleaner videos. Pretty cool stuff.

    Thanks Manny! I bought a Z6ii as a stop-gap till the Mark 4 landed... am loving the Z6ii, but this camera is the perfect sweet spot for almost every type of photography for the average joe like me. 30mp is perfect, variable screen for unique perspective, amazing customization... and most importantly the AF. Still waiting to see what Nikon might bring to the firmware table, but most likely will purchase this also. Shout out to "3rd Coast Coffee" if it's still around there in Chicago (Attended College downtown).

    • @oasean
      @oasean Před 2 lety +1

      The 10 fps raw is in drive mode Hi+, which, concealing the present scene and displaying the prior shot, is often unusable on critical action. Shooting while viewing live, the top burst is 8 fps, drive mode Hi. Also, 10 fps raw requires a CFexpress type A card, anyway, a 160 GB costing 400 USD. But on SD card, the buffer, instead of over 800 frames, is only some 25 frames. So in effect, the camera shoots 8 fps and costs 2900 USD. For such compromises on action photo and mobility amid action video-the 4K 60fps video having a 1.5x crop factor-the 33 MP sensor is a gimmick and bad excuse.

  • @paiman_
    @paiman_ Před 2 lety +3

    To all the people complaining about 60fps in Crop mode, look at all the things Sony fixed that people complained about on the A7iii, we have to give credit to them.
    They can't make everybody happy because ppl always complain.
    Also, they have to keep some things for the higher end models too, if they put everything in this cheaper camera, who would wanna buy the more expensive ones from them?
    Sony is really good at listening to its customers & I respect the company for that.
    I love my A7iii and will not be upgrading until this one goes on a massive sale or after a few years. My A7iii is still a beast.

Its almost 2+ years with my A7III now, and I can say this is still one of the best hybrid camera but lacks somewhat in video. Now, if you're coming fro older A7II or A7RII or any other system or really old A7III, A7IV is worth the price as one of the best. Especilally for video with 4K 60p, higher res., S-Log 3, S-Cinetone, 10bit 4:22, Focus Map and Gyro Data and much more.

    I have been shooting Nikon Z and Sony A7iii. I love the image quality with the Z cameras but hate the auto focus system. I love the auto focus system on the Sony, image quality is good too. The only reason I had to stick with the Z camera is the shutter sound. I shoot plays, weddings in churches and I shoot for a university where one of the photographers was asked to leave because he was shooting on a Sony A7ii and the shutter was too loud. Sony A7iii shutter as well is to loud. Finally the Sony A7iv the shutter is quieter. I never hear anyone talking about how loud the shutters are on these Sony's. I'm so very happy that the A7iv is quieter.

      My dilemma is coming from the a7ii. I don't really do any video work, and other camera is a used a7s (wanted to try it for astro). I honestly barely touch by a7s and it's a backup timelapse camera for my landscape shoots. I'm trying to decide if it's worth added the a7iv to my bag instead of the a7iii (i'm going to sell the a7s eventually). I mostly do landscape/astro work. I haven't delved into portraits but it probably couldn't hurt to have the a7iv's better autofocus, it's just hard to justify the 7-800 dollar cost difference between the a7iv and a7iii.

As someone who has none of these cameras I'll buy the A7iv though. The touch menu helped with this decision more than the articulating screen and bigger body.

    The biggest upgrade for me would be the better EVF, the increase in MP but mostly the AF. I've been waiting to see if Sony would release a firmware upgrade to the A7iii AF but clearly this was never going to happen. That's the only issue with the A7iii AF if it loses the eye/ face then it's a bit hit and miss. Is it enough for me to upgrade, probably not, but if you're a full time professional then it would be a worthy upgrade. Yes, I'm giving up some resolution, but the AF system is so far advanced, that it makes a far bigger difference when objects are moving. Also, I suspect the ISO is at least a stop better in this new body. So even if I disregard ergonomics, the number of keepers per event/session will be significantly better, even with the lower resolution.

      That’s what I did on the Canon side. Went from the 6D Mark II, a perfectly fine, full-frame, to the R6, and it’s so worth it. So many little headaches removed.

    Thank you Manny, I think this video has convinced me that my a7 III is still awesome and that the expense of acquiring the a7 IV, it's vertical grip and a CF Express card would not result in measurably better still photos. I figure with local and California sales taxes that amounts to close to $3500. I was thinking of selling my a7 III and vertical grip to KEH as I don't have the time and savvy to sell to a private party. That sale would offset around $850. I shoot almost 100% stills and your comparison of the III and IV was an eye opener. The IQ is so close. There were three features that appealed to me on the a 7 IV, the extra 9 megapixels, the shutter that closes when off and the 10 bit video capability (thinking I would shoot more video with better editing in post options). I know I have serious GAS behavior as I already have more camera bodies and lenses than I really need. I'm now thinking I'll wait a few years and see what Sony has in store for the inevitable a7 V. Thank you for your reviews, they are extremely informative and straightforward, they are unique among CZcams camera videos.

    yeah okay, nobody underexposes images by that much, but apply that noise flexibility onto night-time shooting and you will get a noticeable advantage any day of the week.

    Did you do any high iso comparisons by chance between the 2? Would love to know how the 2 compare at ISO at or above 5000 for photos that are properly exposed.

    AYOOOOOO @4:04 great review tho, I think it really answered a lot of people questions whether or not they should get into the A7IV. Myself I recently got the A7iii a year ago so I can’t really jump to the next version but it okay! The A7iii is such a solid camera that it’s hard to give up and switch. If I had the money maybe I’d get the A7IV but regardless anyone / everyone needs to be happy with what they have already and make the best out of it.
