  • Just upgraded to a M3 MAX from a Mac Intel 6-core. Doing some real world test while I am in the tedious process of installing and authorizing software and plug-ins. The computer ate up the 121 stereo tracks with a instance of UAD Native Distressor with a buffer of 128 no problem.
    Excited to finally upgrade to Avid Pro Tools Ultimate 2023.9 from a 2019 version. Really impressed with the power of Apple M3 MAX.

    Can’t wait to unlock the potential of my new M3 chip!

      Same. It's been such a difference so far. Was on MAC OS 10.12.6 with a 6 core Intel Mac.

    I jumped from a 2014 i5 MBP to a M3 Max MBP. I man goly.......the fan doesnt even come on with everything I got going on in my sessions. Im not going to need to upgrade for several years maybe even another decade with no issues. This is crazy.

      I feel the same way. I have been on a slow transition from my old computer running OS Sierta to this. Now that Avid has fixed the driver issues this thing is insane. Using UAD Native the instances you can have is so nice leaving the UAD-2 DSP more open. No Regrets

    Hey man I’m bout to buy this Mac. Did you have any compatibility issues when downloading pro tools? Sometimes apples newer operating systems have compatibility problems.

      So far so good. I know that Sonoma isn't technically supported yet. I'm running 2023.12. I haven't loaded a old session yet from 2019.8. That was my previous version I was running on an Intel Mac. I waited sometime before switching to the ARM Mac.

    That's awesome!
    Did it come with macOS Sonoma preinstalled or did it come with Ventura?
    I own an M1 Max MacBook Pro with 32GB of RAM and I use Pro Tools Studio 2023.9 and it's been unbelievable how great it performs.
    For now, no reason to upgrade to the M3 Max.
    I would if it comes the Mac Studio next year, and I'd keep the MacBook to travel.
    What a great time to be a creator!

      Yes it came with Sonoma. So far plug-ins are working. I wanted to wait a couple of years for developers to work out the kinks with the M chips. My friend that bought one right away said he had issues.

      @@Stife408 did you start pro tools in rosetta mode ?

    • @Stife408
      @Stife408  Před 5 měsíci

      @@IRMI_MUSIK I am running Pro Tools 2023.9 and now 2023.12 Ultimate in Native mode not Rosetta. I did open open up Rosetta just because I noticed my Waves stuff wasn't appearing. Sucks I was forced to upgrade to V14 Waves to run natively on the M3 without Rosetta. Hope this helps. Almost all the major Plug-In vendors are M Chip native now.

    Thanks for this test. How is the fan noise when recording?

    • @Stife408
      @Stife408  Před 2 měsíci +1

      No noise! Only time the fan goes on is intense GPU based processing

    How many could you get with your former Mac? I’m trying to figure out whether new comp or satellite

    • @Stife408
      @Stife408  Před 4 měsíci +1

      I have the Octo UAD so depending on which plug-ins you use. Not all plug-ins are offered as UAD Native so you’ll still need both. You can get a lot more instances of the Distressor with the M3 though.

      @@Stife408 ah I have been bouncing out tracks and inserting them back in because I always go over the DSP max limit. I use a lot of plugins via Apollo quad.
      Max2 chip looks like I’ll have to invest in the octo thunderbolt satellite first which is expensive but necessay. Thanks for your reply

      @Stife408  Před 2 měsíci

      Yes it works with Pro Tools Ultimate and Sonoma. If your running HD Native you may need to do a firmware update which works in the newest version of Pro Tools Ultimate.

    pro tools is literally the worst daw to mix in too on these Apple joints, NOT THAT ITS BAD, but it's def not as efficient as some other daws, since it doesn't use efficiency cores... Imagine using Reaper or Cubase. Probably doubling this with ease.

      My experience I will never use close to its potential in power. I record in with analog/ use outboard/ UAD and Native Plug-ins. I never go past 10-15% CPU. I came from an Intel Mac so once Avid fixed the code for Sonoma its been smooth sailing.
