      So, I think i can go for an m2 pro (10C) mac mini with 16 gigs.
      actually i'll work on quite heavy projects with a lot of heavy projects.
      maybe around 150 tracks in pro tools with a lot of waves/UAD plugins.
      what's your opinion?
      actually my bufget is around $1800.
      so, is 16 gigs enough ram for working with that much tracks or should I get more budget to get 32 gigs?

    My old Mac Pro tower did I say OLD died last week. Probably the power supply but I’ve been looking at all the Mac mini’s and pretty much stopped on the one you are talking about here. You sold me Doug. I’m just getting into music editing/production coming from video editing/ creation. There is always going to be a bigger faster Mac around the corner BUT I’m seeing info about the m3 chip soon. Very soon. Thoughts?? And thanks for this video.

    Me buying my M2 Pro is honestly the best purchase I’ve made this year by far and it’s not even close. I have a similar hub that I bought save dropped a 2 TB SSD in it. I also built a super easy DIY 40Gbps M.2 NVMe SSD Enclosure USB4 PCIe3.0x4 USB-C Aluminum Adapter, Upgraded NVMe PCIe 2280 M-Key External M2 Solid State Drive Enclosure, Compatible Thunderbolt 4 and dropped another 2 TB SSD card. All in $1,800 vs. my 2018 MacBook Pro that cost me well over $4k and this beast blows it out of the
    water🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

    Great Video, Thank You. Just ordered the M2 Pro, 16 GB 512 ram, and a Hagibis USB-C Hub with a 2 TB M2 SSD. I can no longer update my Mac, and I Hope this will be a good move for me. I am just an old IT guy who still likes to mess around with many things, and I plan to add Parallels with Windows 11 to the mix with dual 4k monitors. I wish you the Best

    Finally decided to retire my 2010 Mac Pro (12core/32gb) and jumped on the Costco deal for the Mac Studio M1 Max (10core/32gb/512) two weeks ago---huge upgrade. These silicon chips are the real deal and 32gb is more than enough for my mastering needs. Also picked up the Mac Mini Pro M2 (16gb/512) and shot them out against each other. The Studio M1 Max was faster in all my testing so the Mac Mini M2 Pro went back. Now I'm debating on whether or not to return the Studio M1 Max for the M2 Max. Definitely tempting. But honestly, the Studio M1 Max handles all my audio/video processing needs with ease so I'm not convinced the Studio M2 Max (with 2 more cores) is really going to be much faster, if at all...especially for audio applications. Either way, Costco has a great return policy, so I still have a couple months to decide. We'll see what happens.

    I have a MacBook Pro M1 (10c 16gb ram) and I absolutely love it. ProTools been running great for me. However there is one thing i regret and that is I should have gotten more ram. 16gb is simply not enough if you plan to use large samplers from orchestra libraries like EW, Native, Spitfire, etc. When I want to use those samplers, I have to do the MIDI programming a few instruments at a time, then bounce each instrument before moving on, otherwise my session will crash.
    Fun thing btw, I found that Logic Pro, when my session crashes, my project becomes unrecoverable :) At least with ProTools, I can load the project again. If anyone has advise for this, lmk.

It’s an older Mac mini I think from 2008 or 09 I’m not quite sure. And its running on sierra. I’ll obviously have to take out the hard drive and connect it to M2 to transfer right?

      You should be able to work with it, but in Rosetta mode, losing lot of performance and probably having more than an issue. Best is to pay the subscription to get the last version compatible with Apple Silicon. I paid 275$ for upgrade to the latest Pro Tools Studio version + 1 year of updates and is working without issues.

    Im wanting to try garageband.
    I have Toontrack ezkeys, Native Instruments Strummed Acoustic, Steven Slate Drums 5.5, and several amp sims/eqs/reverbs etc.
    99% of the time I won't be using Steven Slate because I only have one customer who wants drum samples. Everyone else wants acoustics only.
    (So here's what my usual
    sessions will look like:)
    8 drum mics + cloudlifters k/s
    4 vocal mics + eq
    Bass guitar + amp sims
    4 Acoustic guitar + amp sims
    4 Electric guitar + amp sims
    2 piano + EZKEYS
    1 organ (onboard piano)
    2 strings (onboard piano)
    2 harmonica ÷ amp sim + eq

    Amazing video as mentioned below, I just want to add that for all Apple silicone depending on what configuration you get, remember that your system memory is also shared between your CPU and the GPU... If you are producing music, understand that all DAWs utilize Apple hardware resources differently. How Pro Tools utilizes hardware resources is different from how Logic, or Cubase will utilize the same hardware. To avoid the headaches of 'workarounds' and memory pressure issues, you best bet is to configure a system that has at minimum, 32GB Ram.

      I was shocked, my older computer has 64 gigs of ram, and it does the job great, I did get the m2 pro, for the same fear, but not the loaded one

    • @taucetus3657
      @taucetus3657 Před 11 měsíci

      Don't do it. If you are working with music/audio software, your base system as in the most basic system you should get must at least have 32GB of Ram, otherwise you will spend a lot of time doing the 'workaround' when you start working with resource demanding software. For someone working with audio, your optimal system should be the base M1 Mac Studio.

    • @urbankar
      @urbankar Před 11 měsíci +2

      @@taucetus3657 i've worked on a pc for a long time, using max 3-4gb of ram through my daw. i already have 32gb on my pc and it's overkill. i got myself a mac mini m1 with 16gb ram and even that is overkill for me, but i wanted to be safe. saying you need 32gb for all of audio/music production is ridiculous

    • @taucetus3657
      @taucetus3657 Před 11 měsíci

      @@urbankar On a Mac because Mac do not utilize system memory the way PCs do. The M-series chipset shares system memory with the in-built GPU. 32GB gives you some extra overhead and relives your system from memory pressure issues down the road. Yes, 16GB is okay but as you progress and software is updated and adapted to new hardware specifications, 16GB starts to become inadequate. Now you can as well build yourself a more than capable PC which will not only give you the power you need to work with audio but the ability to upgrade later when software adaptations to hardware resources increase...

    im very hesitant with this particular base model for music production. Im recording on Ableton, lots of audio tracks (30+) along with UAD plugins and 3rd party (PA, L2s. Fabfilters etc) and some VSTs, sub groups with plugins and a heavy 2 bus chain as i master on the same session. Currently im on a mini 2018 i7/256ssd/32gbRAM. Im having a lots of glitches in DAW if i raise oversampling but at the same time theres absolutely no memory pressure and CPU is about 40%, so i cant imagine how the M2 base will perform better. At the same time though you show this video and im very sceptical cos im that close to pull the trigger for the m2pro/16gb/512..Thnx

      i would recommend m1 if u are going to get the 256gb model but if u are going for m2 go 512gb do it because the 256gb nvme on the m2 is slowed down drastically over the 512gb m2 not the same and u don't want a slow drive powering your system but i suggest getting a external nvme enclosure.

      Get an external Thunderbolt spec SSD. 1TB is about $160, a lot cheaper than Apple's internal. Then set up the external drive as the boot drive (you'll need to install MacOS on it but that is easy) and you'll be surprised. I use an external SSD to boot on my iMac and it's a great way to get around the limitations of internal storage.
