The rabbit is shown to be a link in nature's web of life--a creature that
is prey for almost every meat-eater, including human beings and their pets. The camera follows a rabbit family, along with other creatures that share its range, through the seasons.
Produced by Missouri Dept. of Conservation (1955).

What a great documentary. Teaches lessons about ecology land stewardship and hunting. This takes me back to my days of young when I single shot 20 gauge and a briar patch was all I needed.

It's interesting to see the intersection of rabbits with society.

Yes, and most of the dangers shown here are only 100 years old or less creations of humans, including dogs and cats. These rabbits evolved in an environment free of these dangers so are fine tuned to that environment, not this one. This horrible added pressure is too much even for their reproductive rates. Add to it how unappreciated they are as shown by the contempt in this documentary. They will become extinct, just like their European cousins are already disappearing from their native range in the Iberian peninsula. Bye bye, little cottontails, killed by human idiocy.

I found this to be interesting and really good footage of the life (and death) of cottontails. My dad and uncles had beagles and use to rabbit hunt quite abit. I remember them coming home with "alot" of rabbits and having to clean them. I don't see or hear much about hunters going rabbit hunting anymore but I'm sure some still do.
Whats also interesting is they mention sericea lespedeza and multiflora rose as being beneficial. Both of these plants are considered non-native invasive species today. And there are a lot of efforts to get rid of these plants. This video looks like it was made back in the 1950's. Heck, no wonder we have sericea lespedeza and multiflora rose growing out of control all over Missouri today! Lol!

Really sad you tortured and killed rabbits when you easily could have not done that. Be better. Employ compassion.
