The camera follows this game bird from north to south through the seasons of the year, showing its habits and life history. The narration reveals the problems the mallard faces and poses to the concerned conservationist. Emphasis is on the importance of this continent's wetlands.

For a 1963 documentary, this had some really good technical additions. Great job

I start every day with a cup of black coffee and "This is the Mallard" playing in the background as I fix my family a monster breakfast.

I remember watching documentaries like this when I was a boy. I would often learn more from a filmstrip or video than I would from reading books and listening to lectures. I also wonder about the areas shown in this video, and not IF, but how much of them are now lost to human development.

Exactly. I remember the first house I purchased was near a marsh and farms. Used to see all kinds of creatures. It was nice after working in a city to go home to and wake up to. Had to move when I changed careers, but I went back a few years ago to look around but everything was developed and I had to use gps to find the old house.

When I was little I was totally into this wildlife documentary series on PBS called Wild America with Marty Stauffer. This then sparked a huge interest in reading for me. The good news is that the areas you're referring to in this film are most likely still intact as wetland conservation is well funded through waterfowl hunting licenses and federal duck stamps. If you'd like to directly support wetland protection and management, buying a $25 duck stamp at your local post office is a great way to help even if you're a non-hunter.

I really, really enjoy these videos. I listen to them while painting wildlife. Please consider doing videos like these with other species of ducks and waterfowl (and other animals).

Interesting look into the lives of the Mallard Duck, probably the most well known World Wide in the North Temperate zones and most hunted. The movie is old and the quality is only fair so one does not see the rich colors of the Male Mallard Duck.
