Christina Palmer and I have been in contact recently and it seems that her comments are not appearing under this video. She is not muted on my channel and I’m not able to see her comments in the ‘held for review’ section in CZcams Studio. Here is the comment she emailed me for your interest:
‘All of the picks and turners are available as single items from Multipick. Each of the hooks are available in short/medium/tall height and flat/round/thin tip shape, for a total of 9 permutations. Including all of them would have been very expensive. After much consultation with many pickers around the world, the consensus was to offer the flat short hook for more stable placement, the round medium hook for better manoeuvrability, and the thin tall hook for maximum maneuverability, but less strength. This partially mitigates decreasing maneuverability with increasing height. The flat turners are also available in double ended versions with the short and long blades.
As LockNoob says in his very kind review, everyone has their preferences. I almost never use flat turners or half diamonds, and infrequently use short hooks, but it is important to provide a variety of profiles to appeal to a range of preferences. Those who know exactly what they want may be better served by selecting their own custom configurations. On the other hand, if money is no object, and you want a huge selection of tools. perhaps the yet to be reviewed advanced set is for you.
For locksmiths and penetration testers opening locks in the field, rather than in hand or in a vise, it may be necessary to use flat and
bent turners regardless of preference, because flat turner handles are parallel to the keyway, bent turner handles are perpendicular to the
keyway, and only one style may be usable due to environmental constraints such as walls or door jambs which can prevent rotation by
colliding with the turner handle.’
Thanks Ash. As you know, Christina is not the only person who has been experiencing difficulties with posting comments on CZcams. Most of mine, on various channels, from the past year or two have gone, as have a number of subscriptions. This has happened with 3 of our unrelated accounts.
A few hints: Try using a desktop computer for Desktop Site comments, and using Mobile Site for tablets and phones. It seems to be less unreliable for me. Using MacOS, iPadOS and various flavours of Linux. Windows is not used here.
Also try using Brave, etc, instead of Safari on an iPad or iPhone. The standard browser seems to be very flaky on CZcams.
It seems likely that using more than a couple of emojis can also reduce the chances of comments sticking.
Have had to resort to swapping accounts, changing browsers and then reloading pages to check for comments sticking. That makes using CZcams very tedious, if comments are required. And fewer comments about videos does channel ratings no good.
So for a newbie in the West would you suggest THIS set or last year's Champion set you featured on the channel. I'm still looking for my first set of tools to get into this hobby but I know we face different challenges than our European counterparts when it comes to this pastime. I've always had a fascination with it. Time to do something about it and I trust your opinion. Cheers friend

Never tried a Multipick Set, basically because I could not afford them when picking. Now I can, I don't pick anymore, gave it up 10 or 11 years ago. They do look nice though and I'm one of the people that never have used a deep hook but use curves, as you say a pick set is very personal and my go to set I used to use had picks from several brands. Southord, Peterson, Storm etc. Still got all my stuff though and probably over 200 locks. Cost me a small fortune over the years I was picking, I just can't bring myself to sell any of it. I really really did love lock picking.

Christina has good tast in picks and tensioners. I haven't tried Multipick yet but I have all the flat top hooks on the way so I can finally try them. I've been stuck with buying Peterson out of some of the others I've tried but can't wait to test out MP. Sparrows low/high HD and Southords standard flat top short hooks are also my other go to picks but it'll be nice to try something else. MP looks like they'll give good feedback like I get from the Southord hooks so I'm excited to try them
Gotta say, I've never been disappointed in Multipick products, or designs (that includes yours Ash!) and this kit appears to be no exception. Great stuff, and great review also! 👍👍

After reading Christina's comments I'm going to go with the medium pick set and add the short round hook in both gauges the probe in both gauges and the three flush turning tools and A lock noob tubular pick tool so with all that I should have an excellent set.
Thanks for the nice and through review. I think the dual thickness of this set would make it a fairly good value set when you compare it to buying two sets, many of which don't have top of the keyway tension tools. I'm not really in the market for a new set of picks right now, but then I wasn't in the market for one the last time I bought one either.
The Dangerfield praxis is a dual gauge set (and a great one at that) and this may cost more but if you have it, i'd be all over this set (i WILL get it at some point!) 👍

Fantastic and honest review as always Ash. I have the 0.4mm MP Christina palmer set and I love it. Those longer "pinside" tensioners are made slim/small enough to work as "non-pinside tensioners", give it a try. You can always expect quality from MP. I love Multipick, they definitely are top notch when it comes to quality, also love the cases they have. I'm with you on the tension tools, I find that with all the picks I have, I'm always looking for a better, tighter fitting tension tool. That 40 Degree tool looks really nice, that would come in handy.
Lastly, keep doing these reviews! They are so enlightening not just to seasoned pickers, but also beginners. We don't see a lot of unbiased reviews, and I know way too many beginners that wasted good money on bad sets. Thanks!
I try and make unbiased reviews despite the fact that the manufacturers often send me the sets for review. They don’t control or influence what I say, but I guess the fact I didn’t purchase the set myself is a consideration. That being said, I have never said something in my reviews I don’t honestly think, but I have no way of proving that!
The tapered turner has a 60° bend, that is 30° from a right angle.

I'm working with only a few good hooks, rakes, and tension tools from covert instruments genesis set, and the cheap amazon one which I don't use much. This is exactly what I'm in the market for, especially those tension tools. I can't justify the international shipping though, at least that's how I feel today. We'll see how I feel tomorrow ;)

Hi Lock Noob, Multipick sets are obviously high quality, and the turning tool selection is excellent - something us Locksmiths could certainly use. The rakes appear a little wide in profile, which would, I'm sure, in some keyways, limit your rocking movements. Not sure about the "spoon" picks, I've tried the Falle versions and found them wanting. Perhaps they could be replaced with a snake and or double and triple peaks. Regards, Brian.
Hi Brian! Yeah, I’ve always wondered about all the curve/reach profiles. Some people must love them though!
I measured the radii of all of the curves from the Falle Safe and Storm sets, both now discontinued, and found them both repetitive and too large to be useful. I made some prototypes with smaller radii and settled on 1.5 inch radius as an ideal compromise between reach and maneuverability. I have taught thousands of people how to pick locks over the past 46 years, and have not found a better profile to teach SPP to beginners than the spoon curve, or to use personally as a substitute for a short hook. Having said that, the short hook is a perfectly reasonable choice, and many people are accustomed to using them.
As for rakes, I don't want to sound like a broken record, but the snake rake is nearly useless, except for what a half diamond could do just as easily, or easier. A double peak has limited use for raking just the rear of a lock rather than the entire pin stack, and are included in the advanced set. A triple rake is inferior to a long (quad or quint) rake, because it barely spans 5 pin stacks, and must be inserted precisely to the correct depth to be as effective as a long rake which spans 5 pins with plenty of room to spare, but can also span up to 7 pins simultaneously.
@@christinapalmer Thank you Christina for taking the time, and I appreciate your comments and knowledge. I'm a retired Locksmith from Australia. I'm nearly 78 and started Locksmithing when I was 14. I'm not into Locksport, but admire the skills of these guys, and like to watch some of the many videos available. It's really a different world ... Locksport and Locksmithing, and lock picking, the latter is done usually under pressure, with often an irate customer having got locked out, or lost keys in all weather, as compared to sitting at a desk with good lighting AND conditions. I hear what your saying about snake rakes, double and triple peaks etc. etc. and fully agree. They almost seem mandatory in kits, as that is what is expected, and if they work on a lock it's WOW ... bitting, lock tolerances, and worn locks excepted! My lockout procedure was - 1 the pick gun, 2 single pin picking, 3 impressioning. Rarely drilled unless the lock cylinder was compromised in some way. Bumping was not done in front of customers,
Bumping has been around since the '30's but only became "known" outside the trade due to the internet. Multi peak rakes of any kind were unheard of, but we had hooks, half diamonds, and ball picks for wafer lock raking, and that was just about it. Hi Brian, I did some locksmithing briefly in the 1970s. It was not my cup of tea, but I know what it is like to have to open locks under harsh conditions.
Lock Picking Lawyer gave a great keynote speech at SaintCon a couple of weeks ago, which just appeared on CZcams this morning. I don't dare link to it for fear of having all of my comments deleted again, but you should be able to find it easily. The topic is secrecy in the lock industry. There are many parallels to secrecy in the lock pick industry, which has been stifled by a lack of rational, scientific, and engineering based progress for more than a century. This has been my battle for the past 12 years, to drag the lock pick manufacturing industry out of the dark ages.

It would be great if they sold these kits with 2 or 3 picks being your own choice.
The kit is essentially the same, for cost purposes, however there would be the chance to personalize slightly.
It's a lovely pick set. Truly worth having around unfortunately however the price is simply too high for the goods.

MultiPick makes some really great tools. I imagine seeing them in person that they're that much more impressive. But damn. Their prices keep me from buying any of these.
I get that whole _"You get what you pay for"_ thing, but for mass produced pieces of shaped metal it doesn't make much sense to me.
Right! The only reason I can think of why is because it's not a high demand item. I'm in my mid 30s and can count on 1 hand (with fingers to spare) how many amateur/hobbyist lock pickers I know. And although they're not full blown scum bags (far from it tbh) they're not what I'd consider honest/productive members of society either. Me included
I think that’s it, it’s well made, low volume stuff. Fortunately there are many options out there for all budgets in this hobby :-)
Most I've spent is ~$110 for the Sparrows _Monstrum XXL_ set. But even that is of really good quality and comes with more picks and wrenches than this. I dunno. To each there own. When I want picks that are functional and more visually appealing I just make them myself.

@@LockNoob Are there any sets made from _titanium?_ I'm sure it'd be pricey, but your chances of breaking a pick would be slim to none and they would take a lifetime to wear down, if at all.
I have said it before and it's worth saying again, I just don't think you can beat Multipick for quality. The angled tension tool looks like it would be great for raking but doesn't it get a little in the way of the pick when it sticks out of the lock so far?
It can get in the way, but useful in the right circumstances
Generally not, but you can bend it to a right angle, if it makes you happy. I suggested that Multipick also make them that way, but they didn't go for it.

Top tier for sure. I don't trip on spending $ on stuff I like and some day may buy them, but I like Sparrows to0 much and when ya consider the price difference... I have to say I still don't understand TOK's. Been picking for 5 years and TOK's and their appeal remain a mystery. I can only guess they are for sport because I have never been able to use one when a lock is in a fucking door, haha. Why the fuck don't they make them ergonomically correct? Not only would they be nicer to use when in a Vice= but also when they are in a fucking door. It's like when a engineering design flaw is reproduced so that it becomes the standard for something even when it doesn't work right. LPL's the only non-idiot to have seemed to figure this out and now sells TOK's that are bent, which I will be buying soon. I have never picked a lock that wasn't in a door, unless it's a padlock.
who actually is christina palmer? i heard this same so often recently but find almost nothing except those kits according to this name
No teeth on the toks to avoid hollowing out key ways on locks you pick everyday for practice
I've see people complain about it before, I have the praxis tok tensioners with teeth. Been using them for a year and not seeing a lot of wear on the top of the keyways, but maybe it's just me. My issue is not enough variety of thicknesses, which this kit has.
I can see how it could be an issue if you use a particular lock a LOT. In my experience, teeth on TOK tools are not that much of an issue, but I appreciate that we have choices for our own preference

The city rake is a classic, but it’s honestly not as efficient as other rake profiles
The city rake is technically not a rake, it is a lifter, intended to match what the designer thought was a common bitting. I don't believe it is a good or useful tool, and say so in "Lock Pick Recommendations". Cycloid wave rakes are real rakes. You can learn more about raking in "Raking Techniques". Sorry to make you search, but perhaps it will keep the reply from disappearing this time.
It's a really nice set, but for that kind of money I'd rather build a set so I'm not paying a ton of money for something I'll never use.
Building your own set is basically what I did. Lots of trial and error
