    Fun fact: Bandung was designed and built around the 1920's as part of a strategy to move the administration from the sinking old batavia. That's why you see the buildings are more modern As it was designed with contribution of "bumiputera" builders, and Indonesian-born Dutch, the city have its own Indonesian style-art deco unlike typical colonial buildings in Jakarta. The Dutch abandoned the plan though....have to dig again why..

    • @channelchanel7488
      @channelchanel7488 Před 3 lety

      The point is... Moving capital city took lots of money... And let's just say that they ran out of money hahaha...
      As the "candidate" of new capital city, The Dutch built the.center of Postal and telecomunication office in Bandung (Kantor Pos Pusat dan Kantor Telkom Pusat kan adanya di Bandung). They also built the cental of army lodge and administration office in Bandung. The two railroads (Bandung - Batavia via Buitenzorg and Bandung - Batavia via Karawang) made the army mobilization to Batavia easier (makanya loe liat deh di Cimahi dan Bandung kan banyak markas TNI. Ada yang memang eks gedung KNIL ada jga yg bukan). It was also the reason why the ducth built weapon industry in Bandung (yg kita kenal sbg PT Pindad saat ini).
      The ducth also actually had plan to build new airport somewhere in Subang (a few kilometers northside Bandung) to support Bandung's function as the new capital city. But this plan never happened.
      They also have built the largest and the most majestic building as the new Oost Indies General Governor's Office to replace The Bogor Palace in Buitenzorg. It is now known as Gedung Sate, the office of West Java's Governor). It was designed with Indo-European style and up to this day, I still feel.amazed by the beauty of the building.
      Cuma nambahin ya sista... Maaf kalo kepanjangan...

    The name of the food is Tofu PEPES
    PEPES is a way to cook Indonesian dishes using banana leaves as food wrappers. The banana leaf package containing the food is tied, then steamed or baked over charcoal. This cooking technique allows the rich spice mixture to be compressed with the main ingredients in individual banana leaf packages while cooking, and also adds a distinct aroma of cooked or roasted banana leaves. Although cooked at the same time as food, banana leaves are inedible and discarded after cooking

    The fish is called pindang tongkol (braised tongkol fish/mackerel).
    The fried one is perkedel Kentang (originally Dutch food called frikkadel, made from potatoes/Kentang, scallion and minced meat)
    The one wrapped in banana leaf is pepes tahu (steamed tofu). All food wrapped and steamed in banana leaves, with Salam (Bay leaves), lemongrass, and galangal are called pepes, some pepes use kemangi (Thai basil), turmeric, or coconut milk.
    Seblak originally made from raw kerupuk crackers, not fried, but soaked in water until they became soggy, seasoned with kencur paste (Kaempferia galanga, more fragrant than galangal), usually local people here eat really spicy seblak, topped with other stuff like chicken feet, chicken bones, meatball, sausage, fried shumai, noodle, egg, etc.
    If you are still in Bandung, you can go to alkateri street near Braga at noon, you can find, loték, Baso tahu, traditional bola ubi (no cheese, just sweet potato), Ronde Jahe alkateri, and go to Warung Kopi Purnama, you can try Chinese Indonesian dish there.

Bola Ubi=potato ball,Maretabak=Dutch Choclate sprinkles and codensed milk from the Dutch.But I prefer the salty Maretabak with lots eggs and green unions and wrapped in a thin pancake and fried on hot plate.
