Catching Catfish on BIG PIECES of Cut Bluegill

- Happy Thanksgiving! We decided to go fishing for a couple of hours on this nice Thanksgiving day. The weather was perfect! We put some bluegill in the boat to use for bait. I do very well with cut pieces of bluegill to catch blue catfish. It seems to attract good catfish, especially during the winter months and when the water temperature falls below 60 degrees.
When: November 23, 2017
Where: Nickajack, Tennessee River
Time: 3:00pm - 5:00pm
Water Temperature: 57°
Current Level: 48,000 cfs
Bait: Cut bluegill
Tackle: 7.6' Shattered Cat rod, 7.6' Tangling With Catfish "Monster Rod", and a 7.5' B'n'M Silver Cat Magnum rod with an Okuma Classic XT CLX-300 L baitcaster levelwind reel spooled with 40 lb monofilament line carolina rigged with an 80 lb monofilament leader down to a Team Catfish 8/0 double action circle hook

Joe,i was in that exact same spot at 3.30 afternoon on Thursday catching bluegills to fish up in Chickamauga.Most of them right in that spot are smaller gills with a few good one,s but they all work just the same.If you go across the river and down just a little on the opposite side to the first old barge tie offs I caught a lot of nicer gill,s there, than the one,s at the boat dock.I fished 4 night,s up in chick and caught a lot of huge blue,s,anchor fishing.I caught my pb flathead drifting a large bluegill.He weighed 64 pound,s and was the only flatty I caught.Ty anchored not far from me and fished awhile.I saw them boat two pretty nice blues.He had two men with him on his boat.The man know,s his business well.Im glad your well and had a nice time with your family.

Best thing to get a child interested slowly into angling; let him or her help reel the 🎣 in. Most mind of a gold fish when they say I’m tired let them be. Ya want a baby to sleep if you have trouble fill the boat up and go for a boat ride around here some days are too nippy but when it’s just right layer up and look for nesting bald 🦅. Fishing is done until spring. It’s just nice to be out. Happy holiday to you and yours.
