  • Thankyou once again for all the positive feedback we are receiving on our recent videos. We are delighted to see that you are enjoying the videos and offering your opinions in such supportive ways.
We love reading through your suggestions and would encourage you to share your thoughts with us once again.
In this video, we take you on a detailed tour of the 2nd floor that ‘Chateau de Bruges’ has to offer. We are sure you will see a distinct difference to the condition and décor on this floor. It will be a while before we renovate this floor, but we are so excited to share the chateau with family, friends and guests in person.
We hope that you enjoy the video and we look forward to reading and responding to your comments.

Thankyou for all of your immediate feedback about the windows on the 2nd floor of the chateau. After reading many of your comments, we are in agreement that putting new windows in will be an unnecessary expense and could also spoil the original facades of the building.
This is a perfect example of why your feedback is soo beneficial. You bring new insights into the building that we way not have considered yet.
Currently the vote for the next video is very one sided in the favour of 'HIDDEN SPACES'.
    Thankyou once again.
    Chateau de Bruges,
    Jake

i would make a door on each side from the rooms like a jack and jill option into a bathroom, and use these two rooms as family rooms

Great tour! Sound perfect! You two are naturals in front of camera. Not sure additional windows will be necessary once lighting has been added. Hidden Spaces are always interesting. The way you orient your viewers with a floor plan is so helpful. Can’t wait for next tour.

Wow! The 2nd floor tour was great. It seems like you have many options. Compared to other chateâu videos I’ve seen, this floor is in amazing condition!!! I expected ruins, so you’re in remarkable shape! Lots to do still. The mics worked wonderfully!!

Very interesting tour of the second floor. So glad the beams were left with their natural finish. The "dark" rooms could be more easily lit by lights rather than ruining the exterior facade by adding more windows. You do a great job of keeping us in suspense and wanting more. A rainfall shower may work better on the floor below, otherwise the beautiful beams would need to be covered from the water, which will also be creating steam that will rise to the other beautiful beam work above. It would be an excellent reading room. As with the first floor, south end, bedroom 10 could include the hall and provide more room for the en-suite. This would align all the plumbing of the first and second floor en-suites at that end of the building. You wouldn't have to knock through to the bedrooms. Looking forward to your next videos.

    • @ChateaudeBruges
      @ChateaudeBruges  Před 2 lety

Thanks for your message and your suggestions about the windows on this floor. They've been really helpful. We also agree that the en-suite could mirror what the 1st floor could do and that would make plumbing all much simpler - so thankyou for that also! Glad to see you're enjoying the content still. :)

Another great tour. Absolutely love the second floor beams. Some people actually like a dark and moody bedroom, so don’t feel that every room has to have more added windows. It sounds costly. Love the bridal suite idea. It will be gorgeous I’m sure. No preference for your next video. Just show us what you’re most excited to show. All the best!

I think i am the only one who votes for the outside buildings next video. Lol. But secret spaces is cool too. Hugs to Merlin. He is so precious. Sorry about your family loss, prayers for comfort. Mics worked well btw. Loved the exposed woodwork/ beams. As another comment mentioned, not sure you will be allowed to add windows if they weren't original to the facades. Seems light enough as it is. Would save money if you don't add them. Look forward to next video, secret places or outside. 🤔🤔🤔🤔

In the states we call sharing a bathroom off of two separate bedrooms (Jack n Jill). Great for a couple with children. I think the bedrooms don’t need anymore windows. So cozy on a rainy or overly sunny day. Task lighting will be plenty in my opinion. Beautiful floor and rooms. Bedroom 10 is a stunner. Hidden spaces sounds intriguing!

I can’t bear the thought of cutting in windows on the second floor, it would change the 1600 building too much. Clean window glass without curtains and additional electric lighting. ( you are so high up, no one outside can see in. Right?)Keep the white reflecting walls they show case the beams.Love your chateau with all its possibilities. Thank you for sharing! 💞😊

I simply LOVE these type of tours! Showing the map of where you are is such a big help in understanding the whole layout of the chateau! The detail you put into your descriptions is great, how the rooms will be renovated, and the hints of what's to come behind this door or that door lends to such excitement! I, too love the exposed beams, and the woodwork in the joints/joists is really interesting! Love the little window bench in the hallway, and can't wait to see again those back staircases, an obsession of mine! I think every one of your ideas are fantastic, I wouldn't change anything! And last but not least, I can't say which areas I'd like to see in your next video because I'm so excited to see them all!! I will be waiting with bated breath! Have a wonderful week!

I agree, no second window is necessary. If you use mirrors on opposite wall from mirrors, light will be reflected and bring additional light. Most people won’t be staying in their rooms during the day. Sometimes having one of something seems more special.

The white walls and mirror in the proposed Bridal suite made me think of a elaborate grand dressing room for the bride, what if all the walls in the dressing room were white and mirrors with gilt frames. I would like to suggest that you make bedroom 7 and 8 with the bathroom in between a family suite. Bedroom 9 is big enough to make a bridal suite with a bathroom and a sitting area. No real need to have a wardroom space. Bedroom 10 is indeed a wonderfull light room. Here again I would move the door away from the turret bathroom so you can bring the bathroom a little forward in stead of eating in to the room. I love those crisp white walls. Would defenitly keep every decor very light and french in there and not to heavy on colours or furnishings.

l love the second floor and l like the idea of the family room. you can use the mirrors for the bridal room to have a vanity straight across with lights over the mirror and chairs set up for the bridal party to get ready for the wedding day. You can also take one of your out buildings and make it for the groom and his wedding party to stay in and get ready for the wedding day. i think that the turrets should not be used for a shower, but for a sitting area and a work space for your guests who would like to have a working holiday... it would be lovely having two chairs and a desk in there. Perfect for having a space to read , to have coffee or a glass of wine. Have you thought of putting in an elevator for those who might have some mobility issues? it would be a great feature for your chateau and would allow more guests to come and visit your beautiful home!

Excellent! Thanks for showing us the floor plan to orient us. I’d reconsider putting a shower in the turret - could be problematic with all the wood. Perhaps put in a toilet and basin in the turret and have the shower in the adjoining WC. I think it would be tremendous to have a bit of time to admire all the wood in that room!!! It really is magnificent. The rooms don’t seem dark on the video. If you do intend to add windows I’d be sure to consult a structural engineer and perhaps an architect.

Hi! Its is a wonder chateau! If you created a small foyer at the end of the hall out side of bed room ten you would be able to include the square bath into the suite with out nocking through the wall and having to redo the location of the plumbing. It would sav e a lot of money and time. You will need some kind of vent in the shower tower to take care of all the moisture that the steam will produce. Timber and trapped moisture will create mold. Good luck!

Perhaps the light switches are like some in my house; they operate outlets in the room so that a table lamp or a tall floor lamp comes on when you flip the switch. Only the kitchen, dining, bathrooms and upper bedroom have ceiling fixtures in this 1947 house. The rest have wall switches that operate wall outlets. Regarding the addition of windows, I'd be wary about that, for messing with the designed exterior appearance. Also, it would entail putting in dormer windows and messing with the roof structure and materials. I'd just concentrate on adding lovely ceiling and lamp fixtures, and not worry about more natural light. It's not worth it, in my opinion. Perhaps be sure to have "natural light" bulbs and dimmers available.

@@ChateaudeBruges You're welcome! It can be annoying to have those wall switch operated electric outlets if you or someone else turn(s) the lamp off at the lamp itself, but that's the only instance! :) Because then you flip the wall switch and nothing happens, and you have to walk in the dark to the lamp anyway, ha ha.

Another great tour and the 2nd floor looks to be much more interesting but also a very big challenge. Sanding and exposing the floors will nearly be impossible with the acoustics of the building, every room will need to be turned into a "acoustic cocoon" so others are not disturbed in the bedrooms below and to each side. There are two kinds of "sound" 1 "impact noise": this is transmitted via the floor to the walls by walking or also plumbing noise, washing machine (anything connected to walls and floor), so you will need carpets, carpets will also save your original floorboards from damage of high heels. 2. "airborne noise" transmission from voices, TVs, and music. I think you will need to bring in a sound specialist to help you with this, as you don't want to spend a fortune renovating and then getting noise complaints ! The second problem I see is to get permission to have a second window installed in each room. French period buildings are all about symmetry, so you will need to double the number of dormers and have replica wooden windows made. This will cost an absolute fortune as the roof structure will be impacted and all this bespoke work will cost a fortune. I just can't see the planners let you do this, even if the building is not listed. Light tunnels might be an option!

Okay. Took a screen shot of the second floor layout you had and made some alterations to it to see how it would come out just by using a quick paint sketch. You can actually take bedroom 8 and move the wall you were going to close up to the edge of where bedroom 7 would intersect and can create a rather large en suite for Bedroom 7 and Bedroom 9 out of the rest of the area. You'd close off the door for Bedroom 8 to complete that. Yes you loose a bedroom but you gain 2 en suites for both rooms 7 and 9. Also, if you take Bedroom 10's wall and bring it into the South wing corridor you can claim all that hallway space and the w/c for Bedroom 10 which would also add the windows into that room as well. I'm still thinking of ideas of Bedroom 6 and how to get a little space into it. If you'd like to see the ideas in sketch form just let me know. I'd be happy to post them / send them to you. It's just a thought you can take it or leave it. Oh and I know that putting in dormers / windows would be rather difficult to do with the roof and beam structure on the second floor. Maybe try skylights instead? That would brighten the rooms immensely and wouldn't need to be as big as a window / dormer per se. Anyway. My 2 cents 😃
