  • HERE WE GO! The renovation videos have well and truly begun. In this video we catch you up with everything we have done so far in the Ravel bedroom.
    As mentioned at the start of the video, a lot of the renovations in Ravel were completed prior to utilizing CZcams. So, please expect there to be a mixture of pictures and videos in landscape and portrait.
    That being said, we really hope you enjoy following us on our journey at Chateau de Bruges and continue to share any thoughts you have with us in your normal supportive ways.
    Merci,
    Chateau de Bruges

    I’m sure by now someone has mentioned this , so pardon me if I’m being redundant: when you lay your tiles in the adhesive, you should “butter” the back of the tiles with adhesive as well. That way you’ll avoid tiles popping loose in the future. Just thought I’d share! Best regards -Janice
    PS, please don’t let Merlin drink from the water that has mud in it (or any other contaminants). Emergency veterinarian costs here in the U.S. are astronomical, I imagine France isn’t far behind. Gotta keep Merlin safe and healthy!! 🐾🥰

    Thank goodness you decided to utilize CZcams. I’m so glad I found you and that I get to go along for your journey. Ravel is lovely! Merlin’s extended drink from the bucket was so goofy. He’s adorable! Hope all is well with your trip back to the UK and with getting your papers. Always looking forward to the next vlog.

    Ok honey, don't bother me for 30 mins, because my Chateau de Bruges is on! lol Hello to you both in the UK! Gosh I hope you don't have any trouble getting your long term visas up and running! Also, no need to apologize, but I appreciate the explanations of when, why and how you filmed in the beginning! oooooh sounds like Chateau DIY?! Can't wait for that! I do love seeing a peek at the old stones and bricks behind the walls. Danielle, I expect to see that hammer well loved and worn out in a year, and your upholstery jobs were beautifully done! The bath does look superb, I love the dresser sink! Ravel turned out beautifully, indeed a superb job well done! And Jake, if you hadn't've explained, I never would've known that this was pieced together footage! Gosh I do love your vlogging style!! ;) Another great vlog, and ending with teasers and that aerial shot was the pièce de ré·sis·tance!! xo

      Thankyou once again Cynthia for your lovely message. Danielle and Graham really have done a superb job doing their bits around Ravel. The bed looks especially good! I’m glad you couldn’t tell that most of the video was using pictures of varying different shapes and sizes! Certainly took me a long time this weekend to edit it all together but I hope it gets another good response. I feel like we’re creating some really good content but we seem to have got a little stuck with our subscribers and views. Just need something to take it to the next level now!

    Greetings from the Isle of Capri,
    We are new subscribers and look forward to watching your future content.
    However, we were horrified to see that you would allow your precious animal to drink water contaminated with tile grout which can be fatal to animals. Please read the label to see the ingredients to keep your dog safe?
    Thank you!
    PS:
    There is a 1 foot X 1/2" piece of stick tile with a rounded radius called a "Pencil trim" to finish off the tops of where your flat tile ends on the wall. It will certainly enhance the finished look of your project!
    Thank you! 👍😘👍

      Merlin is, of course, provided with his own clean water. He is very well in himself still so no harm done this time. We will make sure we keep an eye on him while we have renovations ongoing at the chateau.
      Will also have a look at the Pencil trim you suggest - maybe you'll see them in a future video!? :D

      Not for a shower tray of this style we don’t think. We have however for a tiled shower in Lutece put down a waterproof membrane before laying the tray down.

    Tile on Wood? I didn't have more than a few years before this was a problem with cracked tiles due to expansion of wood Maybe it wasn't wood? Or is a specific kind of processed wood for tile in Europe.

    • @ChateaudeBruges

    You shouldn't tile directly on plywood as it will take all the moisture of the adhesive, you need an underlayment, or cement board. It will last for a while, but then you will end up redoing it. Your final product looks fantastic though!

    • @ChateaudeBruges
      @ChateaudeBruges  Před 2 lety

      We used a cement glue before hand. The issues wasn’t because of the Ply wood, It was because we didn’t back butter the tiles before we pressed them onto the adhesive. Thankyou though! 🥰

  • @thomasbee5218
    @thomasbee5218 Před 2 lety +1

    surprising to see you guys place tiles directly on green board - how is that going to keep up for a hundred years - or just twenty years.
    Schluter products are the way to go when you try to remodel/improve an old hundred year old chateau to last for another hundred year....😮😮
    Did you guys use plywood for the floor....why not cement board - plywood rots with just the slightest of water and adhesive has a hard time bonding well
    on plywood with just minimal dust on the wood. Cement board doesn`t rot and you can mist a little bit of water before you lay tile for perfect bonding.
    If you run a very soft rubber edge at a 45 degree when grout is first applied and before dried you can remove most of excess grout on tile before you clean tiles with sponge and water
    Since you probably have to sand hundreds of square feet of walls - check out Dewalts sander on an extendable handle you can hook up to a vacuum - sands
    a much bigger area per pass while sucking dust in to the vacuum and the extended handle will make for easier work on ceilings and high walls.

    The fabrics look like those for a ordinary house. They are nice but not for a chateau. The red one that brought that bed was better than the white. Start thinking again: do not try to be "too modern" because you´ll ruin it
    The same happens with the bathroom: it´s absolutely nice for a house.
