    Having a weekday wedding may be cost effective, but it kind of sucks for most of your guests. I was once a bridesmaid at a Friday wedding and I barely had time to get ready because I could not get time off.

    I am getting married in December and we are doing brunch! We are having over 175 guests and we paid around $3000 for food altogether and that's bottomless mimosas, an omelet bar, and a pancake bar both manned by chefs. In addition to that, we have all kinds of other yummy items included donuts! In lieu of a dessert table, we are doing a candy table with a bunch of old-fashioned candies! Our wedding is at 12:15 in the afternoon and just by changing the time and the food we were able to save enough money to book the honeymoon we had been dreaming of, which was more important to us than having a traditional night wedding with a three-course meal!

I am having a brunch in September this year and I am so freakin excited but also so nervous that my guests will find it strange and I also don't know what to do with myself and future hubby at 3pm (we aren't heading straight to a honeymoon) do we just go back to the hotel and chill?! haha Congrats on your big day!

    I would skip out on invitations altogether and rather do digital invites. They're cheaper and quicker and by having a website also, you can also get RSVP's easier. As well as meal recommendations, song requests...a ton of things that would normally take you time over postage.

    As someone who films and photographs events, I am not opposed to giving raw footage if: its only the video, and if we agree that I can still use your footage for my own promo for my website or needs. Because when I get married I want my videographer to give me the raw footage, my wedding day and video isn't going to be social media bait, its going to be just mines and I want it to reflect how I saw the day. but I would also never stand in the way of someone else making their money and making sure their work is represented

    I would not recommend asking a videographer/ photographer for raw footage / photos or I would check with them before booking. Do not ask after it’s been filmed !! It’s unlikely that either one of them would release raw videos or images because it doesn’t reflect their work.

    • @natebernatchez4079
      @natebernatchez4079 Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Jamie. A lot of the time, videographers will not give out raw footage...even before you negotiate the contract. The footage is technically the videographer’s intellectual property and could fall under copyright laws. I doubt any couples are looking to sell the footage or profit from the footage, what I am saying is that it’s a VERY tricky slope to navigate. Now, just to be clear, if the videographer is willing to give raw footage (like asking for anything from vendors as you mentioned) GET IT IN WRITING. Perhaps you could do a video with a wedding videographer and ask about this. Cheers!

    FYI I’m a hotel sales manager for five hotels in a huge wedding market, we offer courtesy room blocks to all weddings. No one is financially responsible if rooms are not reserved. That is the case in many other markets as well.

    I wanted our wedding date to be on 10.10.2020. Which is during wedding season AND on a Saturday. I can't tell you how much more money there was to pay and how stressful it was to find a venue I liked that wasn't booked.
    We finally changed our date to 06.23.2020 which is on a Tuesday. I managed to save myself from paying 10,000+ to now 2,500 for just the venue. Talk about a score! The main advice I got was that the date has no importance to the guests except for the bride and groom themselves. So if an important date falls on a Wednesday, go for it! It's YOUR day, not theirs. And whoever really wants to be a part of it will adjust their schedule to do so!

    With the toss bouqet, I'm not doing that. My fiance and I have two beautiful daughters who are 6 and will be 5 when we get married this September. So what I am doing instead is I'm using faux flowers throughout my ceremony and reception. So I am going to make two smaller bouquets and bring my daughters to the dance floor and dance with them to the song In My Daughters Eyes and then towards the end I will turn around untie the big bouqet and give each of them their own bouqet. Im crying just thinking about it.

    The secondary market is full of dresses and rings in a wide range of styles and costs. Rentals are even an option. Many FB buy sell swap pages offer wedding items, shared centerpiece vases or ribbons. At a local thrift I frequent a summer bride bought 5 wedding dresses to go around town and have wedding photos done. For her wedding she will wear a simple detailed evening gown from a relative. She will donate the gowns back to the thrift after the photo shoot. I think costs and such are regional. We no longer expect and seldom see an open bar situation at weddings or other parties. Coffee/tea, I'd be okay with instant and many guests have to drive to/from event. No one wants to be liable for the results of alcohol consumption. Enjoy your videos.

    I'm thinking of having disposable cameras at each table instead of a photo booth and make one (fun) person at each table responsible since it's cheaper than an instax, and then make a backdrop that people can use with their own phones to take photos and post them. I guess there's a risk that some of the more reserved people won't be in as many photos, but that's OK with me. I'm hoping to get a nice mix of candid and more 'staged' photos this way since I'm not gonna have a photographer at the reception 😊

    • @mirsey93
      @mirsey93 Před 5 lety +2

      It's not too difficult. You need a backdrop that's catered to your theme. Do you want chiffon or a fun print? Do you want fun streamers or balloons? There's your backdrop.
      Then you need some fun accessories. You can print them yourself on a colour printer and save some money or go to the dollar store. Get some boas, flower crowns, funny glasses, mustaches etc. Then you need a camera or tablet and either a tripod or somewhere to set up your camera of choice. You can use the timer on the camera or a bluetooth remote to take the pictures ultimately hands free. And there you go!

      Jamie Wolfer it’s just called booth by mail! They figure the biggest cost of getting a photo booth is the attendant so why not cut that out and send everything that you need for a photo booth through the mail? They send glittery backdrops, props, and a tablet where people just hit a button and it starts taking the photos! It gets to you 2 days before the event and then you send it back the first business day after. I looked into it for my mum’s wedding and will for sure be getting it for mine!

    1. don't skip soda and java. I'm not doing this lol. I have a lot of people who will rather drink coffee than alcohol, so because I'm not buying alcohol for those people, I'm still saving money.
    2. No passed apps. Definitely just doing a simple buffet style cocktail hour with simple apps.
    3. DIY your photobooth. THere are lots of cool tutorials on how to turn an ipad into a photobooth so I'd like to try to do that!
    4. I'm pretty proficiant in photoshop/illustrator, and there are SO MANY beautiful free for personal use fonts, so I plan to digitally make mine then get them printed at a photo place like snapfish or walgreens. I did my save the dates this way and it was 8 dollars. I ordered 65. My sister also has a cricut so I'm good there too!
    5. buffet style. way ahead of you girl!
    6. thrift like a boss. A good tip here is know what you're going for and know how much those things cost to rent. I found out pretty early on that in my area finding green water goblets at the thrift store was going to be the same price as renting. Didn't seem worth it to me. I'm using vintage silver pieces for candles as well as floral arrangements.
    7. keep it local. This is so much easier for meeting with people too. all my vendors are within 30 miles of my venue.
    8. skip water at the tables. I'm still on the fence about this one.
    9. don't book on a saturday. My wedding is on a tuesday and that has saved money on almost all of my vendors. I have easily saved over 5000 dollars on this tip alone!
    10&11. skip the extra florals. I decided very early on that I was going to limit my diying, but I knew that doing my own florals would save me a ton of money. and since I don't know how to make flower crowns I'm skipping it haha.
    12. Have a friend officiant. I have seen this go SO WRONG and I couldn't really think of anyone in our families that is good at public speaking and would want to, so I went the pro route for this one.
    13. Forget hotel blocks. There's only 1 hotel in the area and I really don't want it to be full. Most of my side of the family is 3 hours away and I would just feel better if I knew they were taken care of. I know a lot of hotels to courtesy room blocks as well.
    14. no sparklers. Can't have them anyways! It's against our venue contract.
    15. don't hire a car. We are staying at our venue (it's basically a private campground) so we're losing money by having to rent a trailer BUT we'll be there for 3 days and won't need to haul anyone around.
    16. ask for raw footage. We decided against a wedding videographer all together.
    17. do different reception. This doesn't wok out logistically for us, plus we got a good deal with our caterer. People are coming from a long ways so I want them to be fed.
    18. don't mess with USPS. I haven't done the invitations so this is good to know!

    I’m planning my wedding for this October and my budget is tight ! So I’m using fake flowers, & it’s more leaves then flowers, even in the bouquets! & I’m keeping the table decor simple. Sometimes simple is better☺️ my photographer is $400 (I posted ads & said I was on a budget) But! If I couldn’t find a photographer I have lots of girls in my fam who loves taking pics so that would be my 2nd option. I’m also getting a Polaroid printer for the guest book, I’m assigning my fam to take pics of everyone (using their phones) who enters, print everything and stick it in the photo book and pass it around to let everyone sign under their photo😌 the dj is a little costly the cheapest I found was $1250 to bring everything Bc the venue I picked had no speakers or mics & we would need the dj all day ! Bc we aren’t being charged extra for time for our venue it’s a flat fee so I need a dj who can stay long as well. Speaking of the venue I got lucky that my mom is paying it & it’s only $2800 but they do payment plans. But if your doing everything and you are on a tight budget I would suggest beautiful parks ! I called plenty who only charge $50 for the whole day! Catering I’m blessed to have someone pay for that, BUT if your paying it I would suggest finger foods or Mexican food or restaurant in your area that can do a buffet theme for cheap, Or! Order food in bulks! like Chinese food Bc it’s cheaper that way and have family serve for you 😌 the videographer is another tricky one. I found this instagramer who is willing to use a drone to capture the landscape of the wedding and I’m thinking of having my fam record off a camera and have someone edit it into a beautiful wedding video ?🤷🏽‍♀️ AND!!! This a Big Tip!! If your on a budget for a wedding dress GO TO : Anomalie !! they will custom make your dress based off your budget ! Check their work on instagram they explain everything ! Get your dream dress!, Based off your budget! & custom made to fit you !😁🤗 They even did priyankas veil !😱💕

    I love these ideas! But something to add, check your state laws before you have a friend or loved one officiate your wedding. Some states (like mine) have really strict laws and do not allow people that get their certificate the online way to officiate. However, some professionals have a cheaper "make it legal" option that will sign or observe the friend/loved one officiating.

    Hi Jamie I loved your Tips! I just wanted to let you know that in the long run people can actually save a lot of money getting the right Photo Booth company just like the right DJ. My Video & Photo Booth comes with two Photobooth Attendants, Backdrops, unlimited video & photo's & reprints. So for Example if there is 5 people in the Photo Booth we make 6 reprints in 10 sec, the extra we put in a photo guest book that we also provide. We have over 200 hats/props that are all new and the guests can take them home at the end of the night. The couple also gets a flash drive at the end of the night with all the photo's & video that was taken. It actually would entertain & SAVE the couple more by getting the RIGHT Photo booth company. There are some not so good companies out there.

    We did double duty for favors and glassware. We customized glassware with our names and wedding date and set the tables with them to be used as wine/beer/water glasses. We used a style of glassware that would be acceptable for all liquids. This way we were able to have glass (something my mother-in-law felt was important) for alcohol. 50% of people still didn't take the glasses (which I knew would happen and why I wasn't going to do favors in the first place) but now we have them for parties! Another huge money saving tip is to use the same room for ceremony and reception. We cut down effort by having people sit at their reception table during the ceremony so we didn't have to really flip the room or spend money to decorate two spaces. We used a community park building so had the added bonus of a play space on site for kids to be entertained while we took pictures between ceremony and reception. We also saved money by hiring someone who had just gotten into videography. This is a definite risk it turned out AMAZING. We spent $700 for two shooters, 9 hours of coverage, a 5 minute highlight and an hour full length video to include ceremony and speeches. This package is now $2500 for this company. I did the coordinating myself but I am a project manager so naturally have issues with relinquishing power to other people!

I’m not engaged yet, but when I do get engaged, I’m just really curious- when is a good time to talk to your partner about the actual wedding and when to start planning it?? I don’t want to seem pushy and ask too soon, but I also don’t want to start planning too late. So when would be a good time to actually ask and start planning??

    I just found a beautiful reception hall here in MN where the hall rental is free and the per plate is $20-25 given whatever food choices you wish to have. It does have a 100 people minimum, but this $2500 total is crazy low compared to everywhere else we have been looking. Apparently walking in and acting like I don't really need a reception place paid off big time! I love these videos! So many ideas on where to cut the $$ so we have more for moving my groom to the us 💜💜

    I'm in New England and most hotels do a courtesy block where they will hold rooms but normally at their regular rate for you for a certain amount of time and you arent liable for any of the unbooked rooms after that point. So if you have a lot of people traveling long distances and you want to make sure there are available rooms for them then a courtesy block is really convenient and costs you nothing but time.

At first, we said we'll just wait with it (we already been living like a married couple for years now), but we're kind of wondering what if this goes on for years now...Also, we really miss dancing with the people we love, so that makes us want to have the wedding even more. Our ceremony is at the same place as our reception, so we won't be traveling for any bridal photos cause we can do that at our venue, and our hotel is like 10 minutes down the road. And where I'm getting ready is 5 minutes around the corner at our own home, except he will be getting ready at the hotel.

    What you said about room blocks is actually very untrue - I’ve worked for several hotels and they’ve all done what are called “open blocks” which means the negotiated rate is available until the hotel reaches 80% occupancy and the client isn’t responsible for anything.

      Morgan Williams I was looking into this recently, I’d suggest going with Lyft over Uber though, Uber charges a fee just to use the service, people charge rides and you get the bill for whatever the amount is the next day, Lyft you put in a set amount of money in advance, people charge till it runs out you can add more if you need to and whatever isn’t used you get back

    Not sure if it's already been mentioned, but in my opinion you should still consider room blocks for hotels. I'm in Alberta, Canada, and the way they do it here (at least the ones I spoke to), they only block the rooms at the discounted rate until a certain date. If they aren't booked they are released and you are NOT responsible for the cost of rooms that are not booked. So essentially, at no cost to you, you can get discounted rooms for your guests.

    #13 Was the only thing I could not agree with. I work in a hotel and we do courtesy wedding blocks. Meaning we will block a min of 10 rooms at a discount rate and you have up until month before your wedding day to book. The rooms that dont pick up gets released at no cost to the bride or groom cause we now have a month to resell.

    As a videographer I don't know any other videographers who will give you the raw footage. It's way too dangerous risking someone who is not you editing your footage as that edit won't represent you or your work. A lot of videographer positions are found by word of mouth or seeing your friend's video etc so the edit is also our advertising. Anyway I'm not mad you said it, I just wanna warn people! If there was a way to make sure that the videographer would definitely be the one editing it later that would be great. Love you and all your videos

    • @Nickie431
      @Nickie431 Před 5 lety

      Emma Casey: I asked this above of someone else in the industry, so please forgive the repetition: I completely understand that the editing is part of your technique and craft. I've had the idea of asking videographers whether they'd negotiate a lower price for 1) relatively few hours of shooting since we're thinking of doing a non-traditional and shorter reception that wouldn't have many of the aspects commonly included in highlight videos, 2) want full footage of the ceremony but don't care if it's edited at all provided the audio is good-quality (this would be for us personally, not shared on social media, etc.), and 3) are willing to wait for any/all footage and editing until schedules lighten up in the wedding off-season. Also, the timing of the early afternoon ceremony dictated by our church and shorter-than-usual reception would permit them to book a Saturday evening wedding that same date, so ours would not need to be their only revenue source from that day. If I requested a custom contract including all agreements and fee schedule for footage to be filmed (and that portion paid upfront) and then hold off on the editing for several months with the videographer maintaining possession of the footage in the interim and thus being guaranteed no other editing could be done, do I have a reasonable chance? slim chance? of any professionals/semi-pros accepting the idea? Comments/suggestions welcome from anyone knowledgeable! Thank you!

      @kimberlyellis7312 Před 5 lety +1

      Harmony Hill good luck with your planning.
      As far as spacing, I've done catering where we would have 8-10 guests at a 5' table. It depends on how much elbow room you want them to have. Also, you should have about 18" between seat-backs at tables next to each other. In other words, if the tables were occupied, then there should still be 18" clearance between guest chairs for servers or other guests to maneuver around the floor.
