I raced that exact bike in 1978 against Ron Lechien and Scott Burnworth.
    Absolutely LOVE IT. 💕

I had that bike! I was 13. With new Metzlers It was a rocket and beat any Honda 125 Elsinore I ran against. The thing i remember is the police showed up in 10 mins since it was ungodly loud. The spark arrestor on the back makes a wicked crackle. Thanks for a flashback to my childhood Captain!

I raced an rm 80 Bin 1977 for four years .Strong motor with usable power all through the rev range .......2nd size over port and polish ,FMF power pipe and porcupine head .Fast as pre water cooled 80s .I won my local C grade comp in 1981 .Loved my bike .Love my SUZUKI .

Air cooled 80s until 82 made strong
Power in mids and man its so much different than water cooled 80 that had top end.

My best friend Charles got one new for his 11th birthday. I learned to ride on this very bike. So scary! Would stand straight up in 4th gear when hitting that crazy power band. The sound still gives me nostalgic chills! He moved up to an 81 Rm 125 and could take me in whole shot but the 80 would pass it on the country roads at about 55 mph. Oh I loved this bike! Memories.👍

My very first bike was a RM80 and i loved riding as a kid. I got to take it to school and we used it in our automotive class, when we were studying 2 stroke engines. I pretended i was the Fonz and rode all around the place lol.

I was 7 yo and My first bike was a 1978 RM50. Wished I had never sold it. I wouldn’t mind finding another. Even if I have to restore it. Would bring back memories

I had a pennysaver&paper route. My dad and I walked into,Stadium Suzuki over by Shea Stadium. We paid just over $600.00 for the thing. That thing hauled some ass!

I also recall walking into Stadium Cycle in Flushing in 1978 with my dad and buying my '78 RM80 ($550.00 cash). We were on our way back from work in lower Manhattan. It was a Friday afterrnon. I had been pestering my father for months for that bike, as my '75 Honda XR75 was no longer cutting it. We menaced the streets of north Flushing, Bayside, and Whitestone for years with that bike. The best years of our lives. We still talk about it to this day.

Sounds as if we were neighbors. We use to tool around everywhere. Douglaston,Little Neck,Bayside. We all went behind a Chevy dealership in Douglaston,Bay Chevy off Northern Blvd. I'm digging you're story,to much alike 🏁

I raced a RM 80 when I was 12 those little bikes could fly. I use to practice with guys in the 125 class and I could get the hole shot a lot of the time. Once I got out front on a good day that little bike was hard to beat. One of my favorite bikes ever, when I went to the 125 class I switched to a CR125 never owned another Suzuki after that I rode Honda’s until I was well into my twenties and early thirties. Now an old fart I keep a WR450 for playing around in the woods.

I had a 78' RM80, and I would love to ride one again!! My dad changed the gearing, so it wasn't so close, and installed a Super Trapp, so I didn't set the Forrest on fire.

I think that was the first year they did the six-speed transmission YZ had a 5-speed transmission the RM80 vs YZ 80in Motocross magazine that year the RM was the faster better bike even the suspension was better. Yamaha had Monoshock which sagged after a season of hard riding.
