Ah, brings back memories. Im 51 & my first bike was an RM80N. An absolute rocket. Back then my mate had a brand new YZ80J, the first watrrcooled 80 at the time. My RM was just.as quick. We all used.to ride in the bush behind our suburb & we'd pull up behind Craig Dack's house & wait for him to come out for a ride. That dude could ride. I'd forgotten all that till i saw this vid. Cheers mate. Now time to tell the kids i could ride lol
In 1984 I found one of these in the trash!! Someone was throwing it out and I asked if I could have it and the guy said yeah it stopped running years ago. I took the carb apart, cleaned it, unstuck the float, put it back together and 2 cranks it fired right up! What a solid dirt bike!
My second bike ever. My memory tells me it was aircooled, and had a plastic tank(?) What year bike would that be?´Member it was gruesome to kick once it got really hot.. Guess I was around 8-10yr´s old when I got it from grandfather. Memories hit hard now.. Guess he´d like to get away from grandma from time to time.. He loaded the bike on his Toyota Pickup and off we go, all day long to some nearby gravel pit. Grandpa in his car reading books and newspapers, while I splashed gravel all around. From dawn to dusk. Continued on the 2-bike path since then: TM 125/ DT 50 /..and then a leap to a GSXR 1100 1991, later with a turbo. Then it was "growing up children-time", so no bike for 15+ yr´s. . but now it´s 2-wheeler time once more. Got me a GSXR1100 again, bored it to 1216, and last winter a second bike, a FZR 1000 1994. Thanks grandpa for enlighten my path forward.
Absolutely crazy to wear sneakers riding, especially like that (I know we all did it). Your toes will usually split apart with even a minor hit on something. Also, that motor and clutch might be in need of service from the launch in the video. Great stuff for naustalga.
@@carsandotherstuffguy5300y dad had the 370 and 400 cc versions.....at that age I couldn't imagine the power of those bikes.....the little one was all I could handle and more.
@@bmphil3400 I know right the 80cc was enough, one time the silencer fell off as I was hitting powerband, it puts the hairs on the neck up for sure. Scary at 80cc can’t imagine the bigger ones!
@Daniel Grozier it will probably reach over 65 mph if you switch the sprockets but I have the standard sprockets, I tested it last week and got It up to 55 mph
My good old ‘79 RM 80. So nice to hear the sound of that engine again...

Fkn awesome so many great memory's thanks for the vid
I used to have one.....what was amazing was the power band in every gear.
For an 80cc it was devastating and handled really well.
Damn I forgot how fast those little things were!
I didn't

Now that's how you ride a 2 stroke!
My buddy had that exact bike ... 15 hp’s That was one nasty machine
yeah it's fast! 15.5 hp and only weights about 120 lbs
@@TopRevs it was definitely faster than my 78 yz 80
I used to rip around on one of these back in the day, probably early 80's - scary fast for me at the time !

Yeah, i always use boots riding bigger bikes. I have restored this bike now, check out some of my newer videos
Awesome! My first was a 1980 rm80. Was surprisingly fast
I had one of those, pretty sure that's an RM 80N, either that or an X, same motor all the same, powerful little bikes.
I had one if those when I was about 10......it's a wonder I am still alive....
Me too lol

How much different was the power before liquid cooling?
I think the liquid cooled ones had about 7-9 more horsepower the first couple of years
I have one of these
Tämmöse konnee ku sais nii laittasin kyllä peeveeseen
Whats the topspeed?
Around 50 - 60 mph***

Mine went about 100, but fot there pretty fast, sprockets dictate top speed.
Kmph that is
Holy fuck
He fucking rips That thing
Yz 80 F was that bit quicker
