  • Learn how to free the shoulders with this magical Feldenkrais Lesson which also messes with your brain! Its based on a classic lesson which Dr. Feldenkrais called 'Rolling the Fists'. This variation is done lying on the back and includes variations at the end which will challenge your co-ordination.

    I'm recovering from a 17-month long right shoulder injury and did this session for the first time and found it to be amazing. Near the middle of the session, I felt a vibrating hum all through my right arm and shoulder and it just felt wonderful. I also found this helpful for my right hip which is also affected by the shoulder injury. I will be adding this to my practice.

    Thank you Stewart, your lessons are excellent. You are one of the few who bothers to demonstrate both sides. I have found huge relief in lower back, ribs, neck and shoulders by following several of your lessons. I used to live in Northamptonshire but have moved home to Australia. I discovered Feldenkrais by searching for exercises to unlock my ribs. I have had more relief following these lessons than anything else I have ever done, including physio, chiro, osteopathic and Bowen therapy. Keep up the wonderful lessons.

      Thank you so much Georgia for taking the time to write, it makes what I do all the more worthwhile. I share a similar story really in that it was Feldenkrais that helped to unlock my movement after an injury. I am planning to make some more videos soon.

    Yesterday, I was tired because of less sleep, I did Unglue A in half sleep. Today I was waken and I had an interesting lesson, I have never tried like this movement in my life. Combination of brain, mind and movement works into my problems in eyes too! One of my favorite tv program is Sunday Museum on Sunday. This morning, how naked models were painted. I was very interested in spine, pelvis, twisting, rolling, eyes. I understand your lesson this morning more. How wonderful teaching I had this morning!

    Brilliant! I just recommended your site to another friend who has had problems with her left arm elbow joint since she caught covid last year. She has lost a lot of muscle from disuse and will be doing some therapies after an injection to reduce swelling. I think this would be a good place for her to start since it's so gentle. Thank you!

    Hi Stewart, yesterday, I did the first unglue your shoulders class and today I have worked with the 2nd one. I always finish your classes with a clearer head and a completely different body than before I start them. I am so grateful for this. Thank you for bringing this technique to a larger audience. 🙏🙏🙏

    I've started liking your videos before I even view them because I know I'll enjoy them visually, auditory and kinestetically. This one was indeed whacky. My left wrist was just slightly rolling up. . Somehow with the unglue your shoulders 1 I felt more relief. Possibly I need to do them on consecutive days. Thank youm, yet again for your explanations and explorations:). This is indeed a good brain workout

    It’s amazing what a little movement with the fists can do! I have an injury in my left elbow and at first it was really hard for me to turn that left fist downwards, but after some movements it got easier and it didn’t feel so strained. After time I could also feel my shoulders more clearly than when I started. I like the talk about it’s not how many movements you do, but the quality of the movement. It’s so different compared to other training.😊

    Such a good lesson! I'd done another practitioner's version of Rolling the Fists before but this included way more variations on differentiating how you coordinate the movement, which I too find to be so much fun. There were a lot of laughs as I tried to separate the movement of the head and knees and found my head going in the habitual direction on its own.
    When everything would click it felt like I was going out of my mind in the best way possible, I could suddenly feel all these different parts of the body moving together as this functional whole, really smooth and well-organized. I've still got these energetic tingly sensations in my belly, and my shoulders feel strong and free to initiate movement.
    Thanks Stewart for this enjoyable learning experience! :)

      Thank you Empty Form for taking the time to comment. I am so glad you enjoyed the lesson. I always have a lot of fun teaching it with my students. Its amazing how 'playing' with these variations can free us from the habitual. Have a lovely weekend from a very wet and cold UK!

      Code Lab thank you for your feedback. The longer lessons often tell a story about a movement but once you understand the idea behind the movement you can go straight to it. I like to put together some of favourite movements or lessons into a sequence such as in my Free Your Spine video which is tend to do every day. But then if I get a niggle in, say my shoulders, then I often come back to the longer lesson.

    I am gonna do this one tomorrow, unglue the shoulders 1 didn't suit my shoulder as much as happy knees or free the ribs and I think I probably have an AC joint problem. It would be great Stewart if you did a video when your book is out, and talk about your journey in recovery, how was it to become a Feldenkrais teacher, as it is not very usual, Feldenkrais teachers are not abundant, and talk some about Moshe. OK Cheers Stewart I'll let you know how it felt this class.

    when you lie down on your back your lower ribs are prominent which means your thorax is posteriorly tilted in that position... did you find that you have limitation in shoulder flexion maybe?

    • @stewarthamblin
      @stewarthamblin  Před 2 lety

      Hi Head Hunter, well spotted but no, no particular limitations at the time that interfered with what I wanted to do. The video was filmed some ago and quite a lot has changed since then in terms of my own movement journey and practice as I have been exploring some more gymnastic-type work which has required greater flexibility of the shoulder.
