Why is My Electric Clothes Dryer Not Drying Completely? (Featuring Amana Model # NED4655EW1)

  • My dryer SEEMS to be leaving my laundry just a little bit damp. I say "seems" because after testing the heating element, thermal fuse, and everything else possible, I'm not entirely sure it's the dryer's fault. Stick around to the end for the outtakes!
This video features Amana model number NED4655EW1, but the principles are the same for many modern dryers.
A few tools that helped me tremendously for this project:
Digital Multimeter: amzn.to/3zWi2ZQ (not the exact model I used, but similar)
Dewalt 8V Inline Gyroscopic Screwdriver: bit.ly/3k0Rkdb
    Streamlight Professional Tactical Flashlight: amzn.to/3nkur6x
Armor All Portable Shop Vac: amzn.to/3heYOY3
Like my shirts? You can find them on TeeSpring (see links below) or on Amazon: amzn.to/3A9EfUx

Seeing you (a woman) getting the job done has given me the confidence to tackle my own dryer repair! It was the lent hose going to the exterior. Wow, it was totally clogged! Thanks again 👍

I recently watched your video, and it was a huge relief. My Amana dryer isn't producing any heat at all. I've already removed the front loading door, the back, and the top, then cleaned and vacuumed inside the dryer and the vent, but I got sidetracked and left everything scattered on my laundry floor until it was time to do laundry again 😅. Your video has motivated me to purchase a multimeter and attempt to fix it. The dryer runs through its cycles as usual, but there's no heat. I plan to work on it tomorrow and reassemble everything. I think it might be the thermostat or the heating sensor. I had already resigned myself to having to buy a new one, but your video gives me hope. 😊
P.S. I can't thank you enough for your video. As a single mom who just bought her new home, dealing with appliances breaking down is so expensive, and that's why your video means the world to me.thanl you. 😊

We have the same issue with drying. However, the unit timer got stuck and ran while I went out. I shouldn’t have left it on while I left but it had 30 mins or less. Well low and behold it ran for 8 hours. The element went out and the timer went out. Replaced now working fine. However cleaning the traps and the vent really helps. But still takes 2 hours to dry. Now…. The wife has a bad habit. If it fits in the washer then it all fits in the dryer. I advised this is not the case. Over loading will also cause delay drying. So a bit less helps. Also a dry towel in the mix will help. Something I picked up that helps. It’s an economy dryer. This is the main reason it doesn’t dry as well. I’m also in Arizona and it’s pretty dry here. Still doesn’t dry well. It’s just an electric dryer. The old gas ones really worked the best. You also lucky to have only cut your finger. Dryers and washers are usually made poorly even when high end and have tons of sharp edges. I recommend a good pair of work gloves or ones that cover the wrist if you don’t normally work on these kind of machines.

Spoiler: It might just be humidity. Seriously, though if it heat pretty hot then the heating coils are fine. If it sometimes doesn't dry all the way and the dryer has an "auto dry" or auto sensing feature, then try checking that the two metal bars usually on the drum are clean. A light scrubbing with a kitchen scrubby pad will probably clean them. I'm here because I need to clean, check the resistance of mine. Thanks for the video!

One thing that can happen with coil heating is that the coils crack, they will often show good continuity when col d but once heated they expand and separate.
