Stevie Wonder: “There’s only one true king of rock ‘n’ roll. His name is Chuck Berry.”
Jerry Lee Lewis: “[My mama] said, ‘You and Elvis are pretty good, but you’re no Chuck Berry.'”
Bruce Springsteen: "Chuck Berry was rock's greatest practitioner, guitarist, and the greatest pure rock & roll writer who ever lived."
Keith Richards: "I've stolen every lick he ever played."

Story time about the benefits of having low friends in high places.
Friend (name withheld for decency LOL) was somehow able to procure four tickets for the 60th Birthday Concert for Chuck Berry. Not finding anyone else who could make the long trip on such short notice, I was asked. Of course I said yes in a heartbeat and it was one of my better "Yes" replies. Of course Mr. Berry was the star but with a backing band that included Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, Johnnie Johnson-Mr. Johnny B. Goode himself on piano. Etta James, Linda Rondstadt and one of Chuck's daughters having back-up singing duties, they could do no wrong. The audience was a bit of the who's who of the music world and then there was little old me. it was the concert of the decade.

For those that don't know, Chuck Berry didn't really have a band, he just had local musicians play backup for him, since everybody knows how to play Chuck Berry.
Anyways,. halfway through the show, Berry was like "This guy is good," and just starts jamming with the piano player. No ego, no BS about how he's the star, they just kind of started jamming on stage, and Chuck Berry was happy to give the limelight to some local guy.
