Learned to play from his uncle Les Paul if I'm not mistaken. P. S. Maurice was the pot dealer, Ex brother in law , also the first Surfer on Surfer Magazines cover.
Milwaukee-born rock star Steve Miller of the Steve Miller Band had a childhood any other musician would die for: Les Paul was his godfather and taught him to play guitar.
Number one in 1975 for like a hundred weeks. Such a great song and he followed it up with a million more hits like Fly Like An Eagle, Jet Airliner, Take The Money And Run, Rockin Me, Swingtown and Jungle Love. One of the great hit makers of the 70s.
I used to sneak out at night with a friend when I was 13-14 years old and he had a chrome plated stingray bike with a transistor radio strapped to the front handle bars. I remember listening to this song as we cruised into town to go to Jack in the Box, which was open all night. Good memories from the 70's.
This is the tune that made Steve Miller the classic artist that he is. He had a minor hit previously with "Living In The USA" but this tune put him on the map.
Yes early Stevie “Guitar “ Miller. “Dime A Dance Romance “, Kow Kow Calculator”, “ My Dark Hour”... with Paul McCartney on drums and backing vocals, “ Motherless Children “, “ Baby’s House”, “ Season’s” , “ Space Cowboy “ and these are just a few. Huge catalog of his early material. Boz Scaggs his childhood friend appears only on the first two albums before deciding to go solo.

Not everyone. Now where did roach clip go ....ha guess I've had enough for now...dont plan on operating heavy machinery for a couple hours...just to be sure. 😃🤔😅😎

She refused to believe the truth... that I'd never done ANY drugs (this was early '70s, after all)... so she swore that I MUST be a midnight toker, sneaking it when I was all alone.

"The word is probably a corruption of - or imagined variation on - the word 'puppetutes', which was itself an coinage, originated by Vernon Green at the age of 14. Green included the word 'puppetutes' in the lyrics of a doo-wop song released in 1954, 'The Letter,' which was performed by him and The Medallions." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pompatus
Steve Miller is a genius with that guitar. He may not have the speed of a Stevie Ray or Van Halen, but his creativity is unmatched. I saw him live and couldn't believe the things he was doing to the must have been at least 10 or 12 different guitars he played. So many sounds that I had thought were synthesizers were just him on a guitar.
18 years old...in the navy..stationed on a destroyer out of pearl harbor..me & my friends jamming to this on the beaches and cruisin for a spot to body surf...oh the memories.
My friend Ray (who only listens to rap.) fitted Steve Miller for several suits at a warehouse for men's clothing. He asked Steve if he was going to a special event. Steve says, I've got a couple of shows coming up. Then says, I'm Steve Miller. My friend says, Oh yeah, what's the name of your band? I almost died when he told that. Great question.
One of my favorites from them is “Jet Airliner”! It’s a cover they did and the intro song “Threshold” is always played preceding it when they are played together.
Steve is a student of the blues and old r&b. He copped the line "really love your peaches, wanna shake your tree" from The Clovers' r&b hit 'Lovey Dovey' ("Lovey dovey, lovey dovey all the time" is the next lyric in his song).
Another great one by them is Take the Money and Run. And yes he's a toker as in he smokes reefer at midnight. Rock and roll and drugs go together like pb&j

I remember the first time I heard this song. I was in the driver's Ed car in the back lot behind the Baseball field at my Highschool. It was myself and 3 other students in a Ford Maverick. We turned up the AM radio as loud as it would go and got yelled at by the instructor. We didn't care, that was our new favorite song.
Steve Miller Band's Fly Like An Eagle is packed with top 10 songs. There's not a bad song on it. It's forever on my playlist and I know every word. Dance Dance Dance was a fun one that nobody talks about

Moved to Dallas when he was 7, there T-Bone Walker taught him some skill.

Yes, the word “toke” to inhale some marijuana. So, he was a toker
I've never thought about it. By saying he's a smoker AND a midnight toker leads me to believe he was saying he smokes tobacco and herbage.
