Steve Miller is a genius with that guitar. He may not have the speed of a Stevie Ray or Van Halen, but his creativity is unmatched. I saw him live and couldn't believe the things he was doing to the must have been at least 10 or 12 different guitars he played. So many sounds that I had thought were synthesizers were just him on a guitar.

I remember the first time I heard this song. I was in the driver's Ed car in the back lot behind the Baseball field at my Highschool. It was myself and 3 other students in a Ford Maverick. We turned up the AM radio as loud as it would go and got yelled at by the instructor. We didn't care, that was our new favorite song.

When I was a kid '74/'75, this would come on the radio and me, my brother and sisters would always giggle at each other at the "I really love your peaches wanna shake your tree" line. My Mom would look back at us and ask "What are you guys laughing at?" Still not sure if she got it or was just being cute with us because she did get it :)

  • @diggerthegroundhog8799

I was probably 11 or 12 years old when I picked up Steve Miller band's number 5 album. It was love at first listen. I went back and got his first four albums immediately. I was probably the biggest Steve Miller Band fan in the world stayed with him right up until the Joker hit. I'll never forget the day when I was on my way to school on the bus and heard the radio in the bus playing The Joker. I nearly jumped out of my pants. Steve Miller has finally made it on the radio and it blew me away although the radio did play living in the USA in Space Cowboy yeah, it wasn't until the Joker where Steve really took off. When you support an artist who is completely unknown for eight or nine years and then suddenly they are the biggest singer in the country it really blows your mind. Especially when you're young

Yes, a "midnight toker" is a person who smokes weed at night. Steve Miller is from my hometown area of southeastern Wisconsin. "The Joker" was his first major hit. He had been around for a few years before hitting gold in 1974. He released 2 excellent albums, 'Fly Like an Eagle' (1976) & then 'Book of Dreams' (1977). Both albums are worthy of playing in their entirety!!
