@@Raidon108 It's EA. They 100% intended to do that. The trailer hooks you in, the game you buy needs to hook you for a few hours so you exceed the playtime limit for a full refund and then you drop the game after a week when you realize you've done everything there is to do and wait for DLC lineups that are at least 20 dollars. (Most) Triple A studios sell you unfinished products with impressive release trailers to bait you then never finish the game unless it's for an extra charge.
True, I think the short main story and repetitive missions even worse. Hope they fix it with future updates and DLCs just like Bungie did with Destiny 2: Forsaken.
was thinking the same thing. Even with downgrades, it's still higher detail and better lighting than most games these days. Frostbite engine is especially good with volumetric lighting and handling lots and lots of particle effects, so most games coming out of it have a pretty "cinematic" feel to them (although sometimes it's too much and obscures vision). The gameplay however is pure trash once the novelty wears off.
From what I've facial animation for NPCs in plot in quest are better than Andromeda a little too much actually to the point of being too expressive So bioware could shake off my face is tired.
Fun fact, when the E3 demo came out, the team working on Anthem had just finished pre-production, so technically there was no game version that existed. The entire demo was essentially a cutscene, and the team was showing what they WANTED to produce, not what they were producing. Super well made vid, but one was gameplay, one was not.
I am. I mean, I never thought about getting this game but when I saw the E3 trailer I was like " damn!, This game looks good!. I just can't believe how they lied to the players man, it makes me sad.
For anyone that still doesn't know the E3 demo was all fake. It was all a CGI video that some of the devs came up with for E3, the game was barely playable and it had no flying. Patrick Soderlund an EA executive saw the video and told Bioware to add flying to the game. The entire development of this game was insane.
It doesnt matter if the game looks good. It is crystal clear how much effort they put into overselling the graphic aspect of the game with the sole purpose to draw attention. E3's presentation was not footage of a game under development - it was a big CGI advertisement for a game that would never reach such standards. That's why it is false advertisement. It's about time EA died down.
i wasnt at e3 so i dont know but did they ever say this was actual ingame footage? because using cinematic trailers for video games is pretty common and i wont consider them false advertising.
and people got outraged by Insomniac lowering the quality of water puddles and reduction of specular lighting on the character model. They called Insomniac liars. I think we need to be more judicious about what we call lying (BioWare/EA) versus an what's actually just game optimization (Insomniac/Sony).
I said to my mates when the first trailer was announced that this game will 1. Not look like this in retail and 2. be trash. They said "nah gonna be great"...
You dont really get how games are made do you? The entire point of a vertical slice is to convey an intent, not a final product. The reality is you can cram all that stuff in to small space (watch the CP2077 demo) but once you want to make an entire world like that is simply too expensive to (performance cost not $$$).
@@tjesseneff7937 I don't think this excuses the false advertising claim. If developers know that the "vertical slice" is not an actual representation of what the game will be, then they shouldnt act like it is. It is still false advertising imo. Actually most of the time, games have improved graphics. Just because EA or Ubisoft games downgrade doesn't mean every game does that. You people should just stop circlejerking.
@@Dev-nr4dw I believe most devs downgrade. For the most part it's a natural process because first they get the tech to really push the picture but as optimization rolls in corners have to be cut. Problem with Ubi downgrades is that they're a norm by now, yet the demo visuals are used in marketing which is borderline false advertising. EA's downgrades aren't that bad usually, and most Frostbite games look as good or almost as good as they're initially presented.

Probably been said already, but it is what is commonly known in the industry as a "target render". This is to show the concept of the game without the actual game. Then during development they try and match it as best they can after getting investment. They really should either not show these publicly or state in big letters that it's a target render.
Yep, the last preorder I placed was for Just Cause 4, which was pretty good, but left much more to be desired, so I’ve decided to not preorder another game.
None of that "in game, real time footage" was running real time. Its all pre rendered without a doubt. This type of practice badly needs to be outlawed.
There *was* a disclaimer saying real time footage or something, *on top of EA's statement that there would be no downgrade from the E3 trailer* . Downright false advertising.
Been doing this for years now since I realized I was being duped at about 15 years old. I'm 20 now... Smh Obviously it's not enough, there's still too many people pre ordering blindly.
Nothing was removed or downgraded, because nothing was in the game in the first place. There was no game when they released the trailers. The trailers were CGI.
As far as consumer care, the trailer was advertised as literally the gameplay footage when it was announced, therefor when something as much as a single hair does not exist in the final retail compared to how it was again "advertised" it would be a downgrade from the original gameplay trailer footage The trailer sold the game, the trailer was supposed to be the game, when it turned out to be an actual fictional work it IS a downgrade to the consumers point of view, it's messed up since nobody had an idea what the game was not even the devs, yet the consumer saw that trailer and thought they had a good idea on what it was supposed to be since "THIS is what's going on so far in anthem", hence why they bought it from the first place In other words, "False Advertisement" no matter which way you look at it
well, it's CGI whether its gameplay footage or not.... however you are right. Frostbite has tools that allow devs to record gameplay within the engine, swap out the models for higher resolution ones, populate the environment with more details that real time renderers can't handle, blow up the volumetric lighting, and simply batch render it with a GPU/CPU renderer. I knew the second I saw the "gameplay" that it was not real time rendering.
@@supernova9930 It was already confirmed by former employees of BioWare who left the company before it went down, this gameplay was pure CGI, not even the game existed, since the development of this began in early 2018

Every time I see these comments, I think that you people are born after 2000 and had no idea the PS2 era or earlier. The game at E3 is an advertisement. Near the beginning, looks like they had a really cool vision involving lots of cloth to give the game a unique vibe then just completely ditched the idea at some point during development
I hope they do things right if they decide to make an Anthem for next gen. because the concept seems pretty cool. Honestly a Witcher 3-like RPG but with mech suits and futuristic themes would be absolutely epic.
Anthem 2 ??? U must be joking we don't have 2 or sequel in our book.. we call it "DLC" which mean u must buy it for the same game with adding more little detail...
yes because developers are at first making the think on PCs with PC level of graphical fidelity in mind, then they get to optimization phase and have to cut everything down to make the game run on consoles ... and of course we cant have overwhelmingly better visuals on PC so they are forced to keep the cutdown version on PC too ... its disgusting and pretty much the norm where consoles take precedence over much more capable PCs ...
I'm starting to understand people who say they don't watch game events like that... @@Ukojizai Bungie didn't fixed shit, Forsaken was nice to play for like 4-5 hours, then it's the same shit all over again
was thinking the same thing.

Fun fact, when the E3 demo came out, the team working on Anthem had just finished pre-production, so technically there was no game version that existed. The entire demo was essentially a cutscene, and the team was showing what they WANTED to produce, not what they were producing.

For anyone that still doesn't know the E3 demo was all fake. It was all a CGI video that some of the devs came up with for E3, the game was barely playable and it had no flying. Patrick Soderlund an EA executive saw the video and told Bioware to add flying to the game. The entire development of this game was insane.

haha...ok define soul on a game...please...enlightened us gamers here....
Bob Wardson yes at beginning of the clip it says this was captured in game in real time.
Yeah I had one look at it and was like another fucking post processed trailer. Tired of these mother of fuckers.
and people got outraged by Insomniac lowering the quality of water puddles and reduction of specular lighting on the character model. They called Insomniac liars.
Probably been said already, but it is what is commonly known in the industry as a "target render". This is to show the concept of the game without the actual game. Nothing was removed or downgraded, because nothing was in the game in the first place. There was no game when they released the trailers. The trailers were CGI.
As far as consumer care, the trailer was advertised as literally the gameplay footage when it was announced, therefor when something as much as a single hair does not exist in the final retail compared to how it was again "advertised" it would be a downgrade from the original gameplay trailer footage
The trailer sold the game, the trailer was supposed to be the game, when it turned out to be an actual fictional work it IS a downgrade to the consumers point of view, it's messed up since nobody had an idea what the game was not even the devs, yet the consumer saw that trailer and thought they had a good idea on what it was supposed to be since "THIS is what's going on so far in anthem", hence why they bought it from the first place
In other words, "False Advertisement" no matter which way you look at it
yea that true
well, it's CGI whether its gameplay footage or not.... however you are right.
