Thanks for tuning in everyone! As far as E3 trailers go - TLOU2's final retail build matches up very closely to what they first showed off. Practically all the animations are scaled down a bit - as they appear to have all been pre-rendered, but the environmental detail is pretty darn close. Some corrections: 2:50 The Scars do sometimes patrol that area. 3:30 I have been able to trigger the dodge into the car animation with a wall while avoiding stalkers, but it was much clumsier because I am a clumsy player. I think you need to be running to slam into the surface. 3:35 Ellie will perform the animation where she grabs a slain enemy’s melee weapon from midair if she kills said enemies with melee attacks when she has no melee weapon in her inventory. (Not counting her knife) 7:58 Ellie’s hand needs to be bloody to leave bloody handprints on surfaces. 8:30 It is possible to unlock the craft explosive arrow skill by this point on your first playthrough. I played on Survivor and still had enough pills to upgrade to it during my first run. I took out the out the three Seraphites lynching the Wolf at the start of this section with one, before they get to gut him. (And no it is not possible to save the Wolf or kill him ourselves.) 10:10 I was able to replicate the Brute smashing shelves and windows, as well as knocking items off of shelves. But getting him to throw me through one of the windows took forever. I had to play over and over again in _Encounters_ mode in Very Light mode to get him to throw me through that exact glass panel. It seems like he’s programmed not to attempt to grab until after three or four swings and most of the time the throws just slam me to the floor right in front of him. He tends to throw Ellie towards where her back is facing. In Survivor Mode, I just cannot dodge consistently, and still haven’t learned the timing and trick to it. 10:40 If you wound the brute enough to make him collapse to his knees and choose to execute him with the same kukri machete from the trailer, the exact same animation will play, but not the same camera angles which will remain in player control.

Your attention to detail, camera positions, and the cuts between full and split screens is phenomenal. Brilliant comparison work! This channel dazzles with complex editing and concise scripts. What stands out to me now are the similarities over the differences, how the move from demo to game is a relative hop compared to the huge jumps in the last generation. At no point did I feel let down. The gameplay felt on par with what we’d seen, and I was astounded by it. When I reached this forest parking garage, I felt that rush of familiarity and a bit of 20/20 hindsight during my first play-through, knowing what was in store. Brilliant game, brilliant comparison.
What impressed me most was the enemies facial expressions, they looked incredible in the E3 trailer but unfortunately have been toned down considerably in the final build.
The E3 version seems a lot richer and vibrant than the retail one. The contrast and lightening also is more prominent on the E3 footage. The final version looks great, but not as good as the E3 version.
@@prettzx hahaha RIGHT! They ALWAYS look better at E3, I can't wait until next gen(or maybe the one after) Where the games look good enough that they won't have to fake the graphics, and they'll have to rely on the GAME and the gameplay to sell it to us

The FILM GRAIN is unbearable, switching to photo mode and dropping the film grain to 0 shows how eye popping the game could have been. Needs a PATCH ASAP to atleast give us the option to remove this mess
I believe the ps5 release will probably add some more of the effects found on the e3 trailer. They probably had to reduce some shaders for the ps4 to make it run as smooth as possible, particularly for the non pro version.
i literally ran away from the last brute in this fight just to get enough time to change ammo and then blew the guy out... i was tense and this was a very brutal ending to a fight this game is an absolute masterpiece, even with the controversial around the story from part of the players
Wow i came in early, cant wait to finish the video! Edit: amazing video nice to see the 2 year difference between a more cinematic 2018 reveal and a more gameplay focused 2020 retail release.

Dr. Loomis Agree a remaster isn’t necessary look at the Xbox Series X for example full backwards capability with smart Delivery giving Xbox One,360 and OG Xbox games 4K
They did remaster of the 1st game because it came in the end of PS3 cycle and the PS4 didn't have backwards capability. PS5 will have backwards capability so they won't be spending time and money to make a remaster. Maybe just a patch or something
While yes, there was a downgrade, like every final product compared to the E3 trailer, it's not nearly as egregious as other games. It's still a phenomenal looking game, and I don't at all feel decieved in this case

Hello! So I just find your channel for some days ago when I was looking for a proffetional comparison between The Last of Us Part 1 [Remake] vs Remastered. And! Holly Mother. This direct comparison videos are exactly as you should do when you are making this kind of videos.
The Ostrich i mean you can say what you want about Part II, it’s supposed to be a very controversial experience but the the original was a damn masterpiece like no other. It more than deserved it’s praise at the time of release.
Abe The Egyptian Pharaoh I can’t see how this statement is true. The story is only one aspect of a game. Admittedly a large one in this case, but it improves in every way outside the story so it’s hardly this garbage game people make it out to be
There's something really off about the shadows and lighting in the retail. It looks like the characters aren't part of the world. It's like they have a different lighting or something
I noticed that but only in gameplay not in cutscenes it also just might be an issue based on the brightness calibration instructions being quite vague, I kept changing them while I played cause I didn’t know what was right
Just letting you know: that exact execution animation from the demo IS still in the game. I was able to replicate it and I have footage of it. It doesn't look quite as good due to it being pre rendered in the demo but it's still the same animation.
Revisiting this after Grounded II, the behind-the-scenes documentary for the game. Your video is an in-depth analysis and presented very well. I really don't have any constructive feedback, as you painstakingly tried to recreate these moments; and clearly presented other material from the game when you couldn't, but it was still possible. I think a lot of people will watch this and draw natural conclusions about one being better than the other. I don't think this is always a matter of ambition and failure. Things like increasing the view distance, reducing fog, and changing lighting have substantial gameplay impacts more than just art direction. Playing this for the first time, and realizing they really weren't lying about most of this; really saved them in my mind from any kind of critical commentary I could make on the individual changes. Some of this truly created generational leaps in terms of what was possible in a video game.
I loved TLOU part 2! I hope they make a third instalment! They could do so much with this series now! The final product still looked amazing, Only slightly less than the demo.

I dunno if it's a bug but it's also worth mentioning that when enemies look for you under cars when they get to your car you don't get the search animation, they'll either immediately know you're under and pull you out or call their buddies or the search animation will start playing but they'll snap out of it half way through and grab you, leaving you no time to take them out like in the demo. But again it might be a bug that can be fixed. Oh and i also forgot to mention that if you aim your weapon from under a car or a bed etc... they'll detect you immediately even from a distance.
In the e3 demo the environments, ellie and the npcs feel so human and real, controlling ellie looks surreal, almost like forgetting shes a pixel character The one detail that you feel your character is in that world, just look when ellie places her hand on the blue truck, just look at that!!!! I thought that wasnt possible, all this e3 demo... I had my doubts of if it was legit, i mean i dont even think that could be possible on the ps5, its too much, way too much, we are still not there to reach that level in the technology of videogames We'll get there in a future, when you totally forget you are controlling a character and the ai outsmarts you, at the level you get scared

Good video, just a suggestion, you need to differentiate the background color in e3_2018 and retail_2020. Maybe one is red and the other is blue. So I can easily tell which one is e3 and which one is retail, when it's not a split screen. Great video though, while other youtubers focus on storyline, you focus on the ad, expectation vs reality.
You can get the explosive tip arrow at this point in the campaign if you get the training manual from the safe in the building with the workbench where you can get ambushed by WLF deserters. I’m sure someone has mentioned that already though.
Im playing the last of us 2 in hdr and the e3 clips lighting looks almost identical to the retail version with hdr on. They prolly just showed hdr footage at e3
To me I think the game on my HDR 4K TV looks better than E3. The grass looks crisper and more vibrant, leaves seem to be sharper and have more detail. I have a PS4 Pro and a 4K HDR TV and side by side, the E3 demo doesn't look as good as the real game.
A lot of the moments you couldn’t replicate like the shelving falling after pinning an enemy against it - can absolutely happen. i spent a lot of time playing around with the combat & it’s amazing what they’ve done. I’ve gotten tackled into a store freezer by a runner, it broke the glass and i was halfway inside of it fighting him off of me .. Straight up movie tier in real time. Killer game
This video is perfect . I was making these same comparisons while going through this area. But I think everyone already knew that most of those animations and Enemy Behavior were to good to be true in the Gameplay trailer.
Nah, that's not how these things work. The E3 build was probably completely centered around that one area, so they poured lots of things into it and added scripted animations or prerendered features. It's usually what they aim for with the finished game, but during development most of those features get scrapped in favour of optimising the experience.
@@toxicrhythmz3718 That doesn't even make sense. Even if it were a PC, that doesn't mean that all these animations and effects just come out of nowhere just because it is a PC.
I mean theirs a chance that E3 was made on a early version of ps5 or high power computer they had to compress and lower graphical quality for ps4 however so if this was to launch on ps5 im sure it will look as good or even better as the e3 trailer
unfortunately no. devs will build entire separate sections of the game just for E3, like this one. all of that in the demo could technically be achieved in the PS5, possibly, but considering this was for E3 and almost every game company does this, it’s definitely just a scripted build.
Those enemies do in fact patrol down the ramp in the first scar encounter, if you wait long enough. I took 10-15 mins to clear the lower area, and as I was about to go up the ramp my listen sense showed me someone coming down the ramp into the lower forested area. This happened twice until I killed the final woman just at the foot of the ramp.
Between the graphics and AI intelligence, I'm impressed, and honestly the story line isn't as bad as I thought it would be when the leaks came out, although this game will leave you feeling depressed very similar to how real revenge will. All in all, I personally think they knocked this out of the park and still "feels" like a last of us theme, just expanded on in a greater way. This game has some seriously amazing moments.
like when you play psychopath ellie, like when she has sex, when she kills joel extremely violently and sadisticaly , when jessie dies, when she smashes dinas face, and ellies face? or when ellie let's her leave after ellie kills countless people. It's fine , you are simple minded, not hard to please.
I disagree tbh. Spoilers below. Revenge isn’t slaughtering countless soldiers and rival factions, to then go on and see your father figure in a vision (whilst you are in a heated fist fight, by the way. I don’t think anyone at Naughty Dog understands how fighting or adrenaline rushed work) and decide not to murder his killer. Oh, don’t forget this is also after this person killed your friend and almost slitted your pregnant lover’s throat, with your entire journey being spurred on by Joel’s head being beaten in with a golf club, Tommy beaten with a gun, and some guy kicking your teeth in. I don’t mind the game but the story and playing half the game as one of the most hated and least relatable main characters in any game is just bafflingly terrible.
10:20 gosh since when I watched the E3 gameplay i thought this feature wouldn't come to the game, but it actually did came to the game and I'm very surprised
I really love this game. I was disappointed when I got to that section of the game and realized that it wasn't as good as the E3 trailer, but I'm still very impressed by how closely they managed to replicate a lot of what we saw. And the combat scenarios are cinematic enough to keep me coming back to them for the adrenaline rush of running for my life, then diving under the truck and keeping my gun ready for anyone that approaches it to look underneath. I performed a lot of these same experiments myself when the game first came out, because I couldn't help myself. My results were roughly the same, but this video showed a few things I didn't test, but was still curious about :)
Great comparison. Overall, (after playing myself) I was thoroughly impressed. Most games that come out nowadays aren’t even in the same league as their E3 trailers.
Hi!! I have an update! I haven't tried on my ps4 yet, but on the ps5, as long as you have a machete equipped (any type works, doesn't have to be from the gp trailer), the same mini cutscene from the trailer will play. it plays at a different angle that shows ellie's expression. super dope
Some people hated the story, but everyone loved the gameplay, the scenery and the game itself. This game is a true masterpiece. Personally, I like the story. Completed the game with over 40+ hours of gameplay.

I love the games great work xD
What impressed me most was the enemies facial expressions, they looked incredible in the E3 trailer but unfortunately have been toned down considerably in the final build.
Idk I've seen a lot of really good ones but some are definitely not as good.
This video didn't show it well but there is still a lot of impressive facial animations when you're slashing people up
@@daevildude45 they feel like real people it's creepy sometimes
Im playing on a PS4 pro and the facial expressions and animations are amazing
The E3 version seems a lot richer and vibrant than the retail one. The contrast and lightening also is more prominent on the E3 footage.
The final version looks great, but not as good as the E3 version.
Maybe that's how it's gonna look on ps5, like the E3 version

It's so that the lack of detail in far off textures isn't noticeable like it was in the first game. Personal preference I guess at the end of the day
I believe the ps5 release will probably add some more of the effects found on the e3 trailer. They probably had to reduce some shaders for the ps4 to make it run as smooth as possible, particularly for the non pro version.
I really want a PS5 patch considering that GOT has one.
Unfortunaly no.

While yes, there was a downgrade, like every final product compared to the E3 trailer, it's not nearly as egregious as other games. It's still a phenomenal looking game, and I don't at all feel decieved in this case
They did it with the 1st game, so i expected the same
for this one, it's one of few rare cases where the difference between demo and retail is downgraded from very very good into very good
If retail kept E3's fire lighting, that level with the island on fire would've looked even crazier.
Ps4 wouldn’t be able to handle it though. That’s why I think there was so much downgrade. They did amazing with what they had and no one can deny that

There's something really off about the shadows and lighting in the retail. It looks like the characters aren't part of the world. It's like they have a different lighting or something
True and have you notice that the characters looks like they are floating
I noticed that but only in gameplay not in cutscenes it also just might be an issue based on the brightness calibration instructions being quite vague, I kept changing them while I played cause I didn’t know what was right

Nice video Nick!

This video is perfect . I was making these same comparisons while going through this area. But I think everyone already knew that most of those animations and Enemy Behavior were to good to be true in the Gameplay trailer.
The E3 footage is most likely being played on the PS5, there's literally no way the PS4 could handle the lighting shown and other details.
Nah, that's not how these things work. The E3 build was probably completely centered around that one area, so they poured lots of things into it and added scripted animations or prerendered features. It's usually what they aim for with the finished game, but during development most of those features get scrapped in favour of optimising the experience.

i really hope so cus this version of the game looks way dum down hopefully this game makes it to pc and ps5 and looks just as good as the E3 version
unfortunately no. devs will build entire separate sections of the game just for E3, like this one. all of that in the demo could technically be achieved in the PS5, possibly, but considering this was for E3 and almost every game company does this, it’s definitely just a scripted build.

Brilliant analysis!
Though I found some things in this video that WERE the same as the trailer they really did a great job in this game :)
Woah. An actual opinion. Respect!
like when you play psychopath ellie, like when she has sex, when she kills joel extremely violently and sadisticaly , when jessie dies, when she smashes dinas face, and ellies face? or when ellie let's her leave after ellie kills countless people.
It's fine , you are simple minded, not hard to please.
Well said
Hahaha yeah okay dude whatever you say 🤣🤣🤣🤣
6:54 i like how Ellie looks at the hostage, then the shooter then back at the hostage as if she's surprised they would kill their friend
I do wish that the some of the environments would be more interact-able, like when Ellie smashes into the car, but I still do love the final product.
Imagine PS5 looks exactly like the E3 demo!
*Cinematic aventure" I love that part
10:20 gosh since when I watched the E3 gameplay i thought this feature wouldn't come to the game, but it actually did came to the game and I'm very surprised
They did change that part where you jump off the highway.
Completely mirrored, but the first part is relatively the same.
My results were roughly the same, but this video showed a few things I didn't test, but was still curious about :)
fun fact: that machete execution at the end of the e3 trailer actually IS possible in game if you do it with a machete
I get a feeling the more advanced animations and lighting will be present for the PS5 edition. You just know theyre gonna rerelease it on the PS5.
I hope they do but what if they don’t since the ps5 might be backwards compatible
No way they must by create new version for ps5
You actually know how much work they have to do to make a ps5 version?? Let alone a remastered version, that is already complicated....besides they are going forward with a new project, so no

10:40 actually, I’ve done that finisher in the game before. It just doesn’t whip the camera around all cinematic like that.
