      GOD that INTO was HILARIOUS! I have a tasigur deck that aims to do almost the same thing as this one, but I can definitely appreciate the knowledge dropped on me today, a bunch of tutors and a few cantrips and counters I had never seen before (also sire of insanity for my nekusaur deck!!) . OH the "fun" of competitive commander.
      SO i gotta ask you prof, are you really more of a spike then or a Johnny? if it was your ideal situation would you enjoy a casual fun meta or a competitive 'i concede' meta? I ask because i struggle with this problem in my meta, and you strike me as a person able to switch gears depending on whats needed.

    @Finkeldinken Před 6 lety +53

    I am an aggressively mediocre and just as casual EDH player, but this was still fun to watch!
    We have a "power gamer/optimizer" in our group. He has no one else to play with, so he gets to play his expensive combo cascade thingy deck against us. He wins in no time with Aetherflux Reservoir, but we just mark our life totals before and let him have his win - and then the rest of us reset our life totals to where we were before he went off, and keep playing for another two hours.
    It's not a perfect system, but we're casual enough that we don't need to gatekeep. He's a nice dude and him spending thousands on a deck in order to optimize it should not preclude him from getting to play. We just have to add a bit of nonsense wiggle room, and as filthy casuals, we don't mind doing that at all.

    • @Cabbrickk
      @Cabbrickk Před 6 lety +4

      We do this at our local store as well. In a pod when someone wins with a combo we simply rewind to the latest board state before combo or win when appropriate and continue acknowledging the win. This is mostly to establish who earned second place as its impossible to determine that otherwise. :)

    @Leptys207 Před 6 lety +7

    An all-out awesome video, well executed and laid out. Especially loved the "champion dance" terminology, makes it way simpler to grasp complex lines with some quirky names thrown into the mix!
    It's also really great to see that one can brew a razor-sharp competitive EDH deck that is also innovative AND relatively cheap. Really goes to show that even at the most competitive levels you can still have ways to express yourself.
    Serious kudos to both Professor and the Laboratory Maniacs for this collaboration, you guys deserve all the attention!

    My first out-of-the-box game with Inalla was against my friends and their normal commander decks. Not hyper competitive, but all well tuned with things much scarier than pretty much anything in a precon. The only thing keeping me alive was simply being the least threatening boardstate, and a handful of removal spells and board wipes, and spell and creatures that could let me recast or return those spells (the tribal, one-sided wipe was particularly brutal).
    To make a long but epic story short, the game ended with me Spelltwine-ing Stormherd and then Puppeteer Clique-ing Craterhoof Behemoth on an open board. I had no expectation to win that game, but it ended beautifully.
    Inalla's Eminence ability can be really fun, but there seems to be a lack of *great* non-legendary Wizards to really build a "competitive" tribal strategy.

      XToverdrive Pubstomping is for people with weak character. The is this almost like unspoken rule among true cEDH folk to only seek out competition that can handle it. We are not monsters, just the unwanted bastard children of EDH, and taking out our frustration on poor casuals is bad is within bad taste.

      If you haven't checked out much of our content over at the Lab Maniacs, you may not know, but this combo with Inalla isn't even close to the same power as many of the commonly played cEDH decks. Most, if not all, of the aggressive (in the sense that they try and win early and fast) decks in the format have multiple Turn 1 kills with redundancy. Wanderwine Prophet is far less threatening, and not remotely deserving of a ban, in my opinion.

      I wouldn't say its ban worthy. its going to be a single addition to my already OP Inalla deck. I'm running 6 different combos. All 2-3 piece combos. gilded lotus, cloudstone curio, eathermage, fatestitcher. All do something infinite together. heck. Rite of replication and duel caster mages goes infinite. Grixis has amazing value to offer.

    Mairsil.deck was my choice from the precon for the flavor. This cycle of decks is my favorite design. I know players love actual cycles, but sometimes that just leads to lackluster decks trying to do the same things. MaRo has even mentioned previously how having to force the rest of a cycle out leads to less than perfect designs and almost guaranteed bummers somewhere in the group. I'd much rather get 4 different ones like this time.
    Also we got Ramos, O-Kagachi and Mairsil hell to the yes

    Heres some combos I built in my deck.
    Sedraxis Alchemist + Ashnod's Altar with Inalla to keep the board clean.
    Isochron Scepter or Elite Arcanist + Dramatic Reversal + Sol Ring is a very good untap engine.
    Isochron Scepter or Elite Arcanist + Paradox Engine + Sol Ring with any imprint instant aswell.
    Omniscience + Aether Adept or Venser, Shaper Savant + Altar of the Brood to mill.
    Omniscience + Aether Adept or Venser, Shaper Savant + Vela the Night-Clad to drain opponents.
    Omniscience + Cloudstone Curio + Vela the Night-Clad + Anathemancer to kill. Or Any two Wizards to make infinite ETB + Altar of the Brood to mill. Pretty much the easiest way to spam the ETB.
    Omniscience + Cloudstone Curio + Laboratory Maniac + Merchant of Secrets draw to win.
    Omniscience + Cloudstone Curio + Archaeomancer + Reality Shift to mill opponents.
    Isochron Scepter or Elite Arcanist + Paradox Engine + Sol Ring. Imprint almost any 2 cmc on Isochron Scepter or Elite Arcanist to activate infinite Tap/Untap
    Isochron Scepter or Elite Arcanist + Paradox Engine + Sol Ring + Reality Shift to mill out opponents.
    Isochron Scepter or Elite Arcanist + Paradox Engine + Sol Ring + Counterspell to lock out opponents.
    Isochron Scepter or Elite Arcanist + Paradox Engine + Sol Ring + Docent of Perfection infinite Wizard tokens.
    Inalla, Archmage Ritualist + Ashnod's Altar + Bloodline Necromancer instant kill.
    Dualcaster Mage + Rite of Replication infinite copies. If Altar of the Brood is in play then all opponents are milled.
    Dualcaster Mage + Ghostly Flicker infinite ETB/ Untap all lands to cast more spells.
    Meekstone helps allot when setting up your combos. Majority of the Wizards have power 2, if you need to attack it's easy to return it to you hand with a Cyclonic Rift or Venser, Shaper Savant also really isn't a problem if you have the untap engine up and running.
    Propaganda or Dissipation Field are other options.
    All these combos that use ETB just get insane with Inalla, Archmage Ritualist and even worse with Panharmonicon

      How do you remember all those combos when playing a game? I would forget most (but then I am very forgetful)
      They are all cool combos too - how often do you pull one off?

      Bob Hart lol I sat and built it up so was easy to remember. It was very consistent with some tutors and card draw engines. I won 2 out of 3 games against the other new commanders built up as well. Our one match lasted 4 hours and all of us felt we were really putting in our best.

    I was sitting around with a few friends and one of them preordered all of the 2017 decks, I almost won. I had a 17/6 Monstrous Fleecemane Lion with Lifelink, Haste, Trample, Hexproof, and Indestructible. My wizard friend turned all of my creatures into frogs and used Nin to kill my lion.

    Could you do a Thassa Commander Deck video at some point? :) Thassa was a card I pulled back when I didn't know Magic at all and somehow I kept her in good shape and years later discovered how much I liked her long after Theros rotated and I really want to see if she's viable what a good deck would look like for her. Love your stuff, keep it coming, thanks for all the videos!

      I actually ran her in my own version of this Inalla deck before to help with the decks consistency as I didn't have cards like Vampiric Tutor and Mystic Remora. Her ability to make a creature unblockable helps you force through the wanderwine prophets combo should your opponent play a critical mass of creatures.
