Completely agree my friend, it's such a shame that when I mention Stef's name in a 'greatest drummer of all time' debate, most people reply with "Ergh, who the hell is that?". Stef's one of the best I've ever heard without a doubt!

This is genius. Stef is one of the very few drummers that, i feel, make "catchy" drum parts. i mean, every time i listen to textures i find myself air drumming to some part, if not the whole song, he's amazing.
I can't believe Textures are no more. What a unique voice in the current ocean of modern metal. I miss them terribly

I wonder why this video has so few views. Stef is an amazing drummer and I was so sad when Textures broke up. He is a genius of tempo and groove. Horns up to him.

The precision of his bell strikes at that speed is mind blowing. Especially when you consider the fact he isn't even looking and makes it look as though he could do it blindfolded.

All around a fantastic drummer plays for the song yet adds tasty little ideas without distracting the listeners from the fact its a good band not just a good drummer. And that crash ride concept flat bell setup looks different but clearly it is working

Very interesting how he chooses to play the bass drum in the ride-bell section from 2:50 with two feet. I suspect a possible balance benefit? Any other ideas?
im no drummer but if he does this then his left(right?) can just maintain that rhythm and you just throw that 2nd kick in with the other foot. but since theyre so close together you can muscle memory it really easilly then instead of maintaining back and forth, you just hold with the one foot and toss a few accents with the other. idk if its more efficient, but for a non-musician i can see how it would help with thinking less about time

edit: watched the part and i definitely wasnt thinking of that clip lmaoo, i still feel its more of a mental thing \ good routine though. or it might be to 'cheat' time where that foot he starts with, starts on the same part in the bar, but since the phrase changes, he just starts with the other foot

I feel Textures never really got the acclaim they deserved. Yes they swam in the same waters as a lot of generic prog metal bands and maybe their relative lack of commercial success was because they there were a bit of everything but to me that was what was so great of them. Very technical without being over the top, groovy, melodic and so listenable.

His bell work both amazes and angers me. Technically, its great. But mount a bell to the top of that crash so you're playing that strong ride bell with that weak crash bell

Incredible maturity, looseness, skill/command, creativity, and focus.
In this era of incredible technical advancement on all musical instruments, 99% of it lacks feel and maturity. Stef and Textures are extremely well-seasoned. Their technical abilities serve the music, not just the individual players.
Just look at his eyes. And watch the looseness in his hands. Unparalleled prog-metal drummer.
A new Textures album would make a lot of people happy. Just sayin'...
