    I went and drove one at my local dealer; hovering between this & the Chevy Colorado ZR2 & Ford Ranger Tremor. The Tacoma has a good historical reputation, but my drive revealed some major flaws: Horrid seats & an anemic powertrain being the most prominent. I’d actually place this truck 3rd out of the three [couldn’t find a new Nissan Frontier at the time I was shopping]. Anyhow - the ZR2 offers better power delivery, ride quality, & features. I will say that all mid-size trucks need a major interior overhaul.

    • @michaelrichmann8399
      @michaelrichmann8399 Před 2 lety +8

      I would say that the major factor to consider is how long you plan on keeping the car.
      If you are getting the Ranger I would expect a major mechanical issue somewhere betweeen 20-120k miles.
      Colorado I would expect slightly better long term reliability than the Ranger. Simply because it does not have an ecoboost engine
      If you plan on keeping the car past 150k miles, I would recommend getting the Tacoma. The naturally aspirated engine will last much longer and overall the reliability could last you 300k miles.
      Also keep in mind resale value

      That engine struggles staying in the six gears that it has now. It would be hunting gears even worse if it was a 8-speed transmission. The problem is that 3.5 V6 is built around getting a better mpg than performance. That's why the 4.0L V6 is still a superior motor even at nearly 20 years old.

    I put in a request at my local dealer back at the beginning of the year for a TRD Pro with a manual in any color but lime (sorry, not a fan). I was told last week the dealer was able to secure the only manual within a 1000 mile radius, and it has a build date of 5/16 and delivery of early to mid June. Couldn't be more excited and to top it off, I was able to get magnetic gray metallic. I'm curious as to how many 2022 manual Pros in that color actually exist. I read Toyota only builds 1200 Pros a year with ~1 out of 100 being manuals these days. I also heard about 85% are electric lime color, then black, then white. Is it possible I am purchasing 1 of maybe 25 trucks like this in the US? I am so glad I am securing this before the manual Tacoma is history. I'm actually still in disbelief.

    Don’t buy a Toyota truck they are being designed by ex Chrysler engineers. Mike Sweers has destroyed Toyotas quality reputation. Own a 2016 and would never buy another one. Howling rear end, squealing idle pulley, leaking coolant on back side of motor from a plastic transfer pipe which will go bad before 100,000. These are poorly designed trucks. Look cool and that’s it. Hard to see out of. Leaking tri lights above the cab. Squeaking clutch pedal, squeaking suspension. I could go on.

      If i listed all the problems with colorados or rangers, jeeps the list would go on and on much more than this, I've owned them. I have a '19 pro and its been perfect in sub-temps 4 months a year and i drive the piss out of it, some wheeling and 85+ mph highway runs and she hasn't had one issue. Maybe you had a lemon and you hold a grudge?

      My buddies tacoma lasted about 4-5 months of on road commuting before he had to get a new alternator, battery and a whole new transmission. The windows whistle and the doors squeak while driving it. Interior looks like the inside of a 90s economy jet. I feel like a lot of people just don't voice their issues with Toyota products and so there's this lingering dated notion that they're invincible.
