    After getting towed to two different shops, now it doesn't even CRANK!!
    Let's get out the fancy toys and see why this little Fiat is dead in the water...

    On any Multiair engine that's been sitting more than a few weeks, you will have to crank it a good 60 seconds at a time (in 15 second increments to save the starter and battery) in order to pump up the valve train with oil and get the valves to function. That's why it sounded like no compression when you first cranked it.

    Nice diagnosis. I'll admit I was worried when you sent power to the starter and the motor sounded like it was freewheeling, then Keith explained why, makes sense. I think Keith is getting the "itch" to start vehicle diagnosing in the field again.

  • @lvsqcsl
    @lvsqcsl Před rokem +28

    Keith has a VERY good command of his automotive knowledge. When you started to operate the starter the first thing that came to mind was the engine has no compression for whatever reason. (Jumped time, valve train problem?) Immediately, Keith says the Multi-Air system is causing that and it sounds like a good engine. IIRC Charles Chips were made in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Great video!

      Reminded me when I was working aircraft Avionics problems on large airplanes. Several techs with SEVERAL binders of wiring diagrams discussing this and that. Yes, it was "busy" then also. But this free flow of ideas is what allowed the problem to be solved. Thanks for your comments.
