$6.00 for a serviceable DC14 is a great deal. If you already have a DC14, this purchase would have been great for spare parts. A new hose assembly will remedy the broken lower cord clip. The black carbon dust on the HEPA filter is from the normal wear of the motor brushes. The "lifetime" claim of this filter means the lifetime of the two carbon brushes. The new OEM genuine Dyson HEPA filters now come with a molded on base/perimeter gasket to prevent this black dust from escaping through the diffuser vents and staining your carpet and furniture. If you find a moderate buildup of dust, especially lint fuzz on the foam prefilter, it simply means that the cyclone is restricted and needs to be disassembled and internally cleaned.
You are right, and I do collect parts or the whole vacuum for parts is the vacuum was to far gone. Life time or not, I still like to change the filters every two years if I have a lot of vacuuming done in that time frame. Thanks for your input Tom Heringer.
I'm glad you took it apart and showed all those places and filters that need to be cleaned because theres lots of vacuums out there with similar workings. Hello my Sweet Elegant Homestead, with lots of dog, the hair builds up fast, but that is what the vacuums are for. With just one dog, you would think you vacuumed up a dog, after emptying the tank, lol

Now that you've cleaned and given your dyson a bath, is it as powerful like when it was brand new? Are you going to do another review on it's performance now that it's all spanky clean and brand new looking and fresh. Love the background music too!
You may not believe this, but even with the filters dirty, the Dyson still had plenty of sucktion. But the bar had so much hair on it, that it could not beat the carpet as needed to clean well. Dysons are known for their sucktion and I hear some carpet manufacturers will not warranty the carpet, if you have the Dyson. That was just hearsay, and I have not checked that out for myself

That vacuum had a rough life. I cleaned the beater bars of two vacuums at church when I was a janitor, but no one does now for years. Glad you found something to fix up, but I was hoping to hear it run after all that mucking out.
I tested it before I bought it from Goodwill, and even , as bad as it was, it still had plenty of vacuum and the beater bar worked. I am still waiting for my new washable filter to come in the mail Karen.
Some of those Dysons are expensive. $6.00 bucks, Well worth it!!

A pretty good buy for $6.00. We have a" vacuum expert " near us. He explained why Dyson's are about average vacuums despite the claims and expensive price tags. The answer is at 8:53 see if you know why he would say that by looking at that segment of the video. There are few vacuums that have the right approach to this problem.
I do know that the Dyson really had great advertising to boost the Sales and call the high prices. And I have said there are others out there that almost match the Dyson for normal house cleaning. But for using this vacuum on a new, commercial building. I still rate it a 10, even with the price. Did you also know, that some carpet manufactures will not warranty their carpet if you are using a dyson?
Well I was pretty disgusted with my Kirby being so big and heavy. I went to get a Dyson and he said look at the side mount suction tube on the Dyson, it has lost 30-50% vacuum strength on the opposite side of the agitator brush. Kirby has a central suction tube. Downfall of a Kirby is the impeller is junk and other than using a bag and being way too heavy... its hands down a Kirby for cleaning and suction. He told me at the cost of a Dyson sale.".keep your Kirby, friend leave this thing right here". I would never use a Kirby for commercial Use LOL You would look like the hulk by the end of your shift. @@justmike57
