  • PLEASE READ THE MANUFACTURERS COMMENT BELOW! IT IS PINNED! I messed up when I made my comment about the quality of the aluminum. I took for granted that a friend of mine had legit information, and didn't fact check it while editing. I am sincerely sorry.

    Nice job on the vid Owen, Thank You. just a couple notes, i use Aircraft Aluminum 6061-T6, definitly not cutting cost on Materials. I also changed the inserts that come stock from WFB to APS 95a for better rebound. Also Riptide made new molds on the Kores and they have a better fit now.

      Thanks for the reply! Good to know, I should have checked my sources for materials. I trusted someone else who gave me that info and that was wrong of me. I’ll see if I can add a note in the video.

    To pop out the insert bushing i just get a little bit of vegetable oil and dab a little in there. I give it a little wiggle, then give the hanger a little pull up the kingpin. When i push it back down it usually pops out first time. Sometimes a lil wiggle is required when pushing the hanger back down. Then i just whip all the oil out and clean.

  • @huntergibson9359
    @huntergibson9359 Před rokem +5

    Yes, more visibility for true wheelbase as opposed to board wb. I wish truck companies would specify a lot more of their specs such as height, wheelbase change from the mounting holes, and bushing seat so that we can make better informed purchasing decisions. Height especially I believe is a really important measure of how a truck is going to perform, and lower is better because it is a lot easier to add risers than it is to bore flush mounts into your deck.
    From the sound of your setup you would probably really like the new Valkyrie slalom trucks. Although one big negative they have is a very vague center, but I think you get used to that pretty quickly, that and of course price.
    I really appreciate your incredibly in-depth long term reviews. I can't wait for the zenit bullet review that is coming out in 2 years or so. It is very uncommon for reviewers to use gear for so long forming opinions, so I think it is awesome. We are also just so starved for good review content in the dh industry. Keep doing the good work.

      I’ve skated the new Valks for only two runs at the local on a friend’s setup. Super interesting feeling, but I had some doubts about the back truck. I’d need more time to see if the back truck geometry is actually decent when paired with the new geometry front. His setup had some torsional flex issues, so that could be part of the problem

    Great review. Definitely lots of pros and cons to consider with all the adjustment options. I've tried Mollys and Slalocybins briefly. I don't think trucks with insert bushings are for me. Ended up going back to Valkyrie Mk3's. Simple, consistent, and high quality.

    • @owencampbell777
      @owencampbell777  Před rokem +1

      Mollys are slower to turn, they have less rake. They were designed a long time ago, so they feel a little outdated. That’s not to say they’re bad, I think they can still be great trucks. The times I tried them, I’ve opted for higher angles than I would usually skate and looser bushings.

    • @NathanRink
      @NathanRink Před rokem

      @@owencampbell777 Yeah I’ve definitely noticed they don’t turn lol. Currently running them at 73/78 front at 50, 93/95 back at 25 and it feels decent. I’ve never gotten to try any other precisions so I had nothing to compare them to

    I can't even see that bushing seat it's so shallow! I'm an old geezer at this point but my buzzed trucks swallow the entire small diameter of a riptide chubby no problem. I've just been getting back into the gear reviews and stuff mostly for nostalgia but it is WILD to see these modern set ups. I've ridden boards that were like an extra foot longer and trucks that no joke were double the width of some of these modern dh trucks. I can just about recollect P-Swiss talking about running slalom set ups for Maryhill but people thought he was crazy back then. I really wanna make retrospect doc on how the dh scene and the gear has changed the last 20 ish years.

    Great video...great review. Quick question, do you bore out the hanger side of the bushings when using a spherical bearing in the hanger? I think that may be more of slalom thing, I never knew about it until i got a sk8kings modified Bennett with the spherical in the hanger and they did this. I also have DT Bhanger front slalom truck/Slalocybin rear that came with the bushings already bored out (I think). Probably doing that would make them a little too twitchy for DH, but I was jus wondering if you have tried them like that. It also makes the bushings feel much softer. I have a Haki front/DH cybin rear set up for DH/Freeride but have never tried the sphericals in them, just the Riptide and Venom inserts.

    Great review! how do you think the Don't Trip Danger Danes Pro model would compare. Which has a the spherical bushing in the pivot cup and a urethane in the insert bushing.

    • @owencampbell777
      @owencampbell777  Před rokem +1

      Hard to say. I know that with sphericals in the pivot AND bushing seat, the truck is incredibly nimble and precise. Way faster to react that anything currently on the market. Ideal for tuck-leaning and gripping smooth roads. You might have some chattery slides if your setup isn’t tuned well or the road conditions are strange. Bumps will be extremely prevalent without urethane to dampen them. I don’t know what the urethane insert with spherical pivot combo would feel like. I’m really curious but I don’t have a clue.

    Sick video! I have had that clunky noise in the baseplate when I lean come and go on my Mollys, and heard it in a friend’s set. I think it was caused by over tightening the angle adjustment dudes but I could be wrong. Have you experienced it much since this video? Cheers

    • @owencampbell777
      @owencampbell777  Před 8 měsíci

      I get that clunky noise too. I had it more when my trucks were new, but it still exists. I never really knew what caused it, so that's an interesting hypothesis. These trucks have so many small parts that it feels impossible to narrow it down to one component, but I'll see if loosening the adjustment bolts does the trick
