I have a seedling Meyer lemon that produces lots of excellent fruit. The skin is a little thicker and not as smooth as the improved meyer, but the fruit size is large and the flavor is outstanding. It’s about 6’ tall and produces countless fruit each year. I think the fact that it’s been growing in Oregon for nearly 4 decades where there aren’t a lot of other citrus trees is the reason the seedlings from this tree make fruit that is true to the parent. I grow it on an unheated covered patio where the temp doesn’t drop much below 30. On some of the coldest winter nights it hits 28. The tree has never shown any signs of stress at that temp. I’m also able to grow sudachi here which are also seedlings and excellent. Sudachi is a yuzu and mandarin hybrid and makes juicy fruit that tastes like a lime. I bring it up because the yuzu is one of the few citrus that grow true to seed.

Hello! I am a trained arborist who has recently moved south and started collecting potted citrus trees. Typically when pruning other types of trees, you do not want to cut into the collar of the branch as it opens the main trunk to rot and disease. Watching these instructions I wonder, do citrus trees not have this issue? I can't wait to dive in a learn more! Thank you for the video and your time!

Hi! So six weeks ago, after watching this video I pruned my potted Meyer lemon tree and she is so happy now! She is pushing so much new growth, probably the most I have very seen her push. We have had her for 10 years. First, in huge ceramic pot at first and then transferred to a wooden whiskey barrel about three years ago. Last year was the first season we had a decent lemon harvest. I love this tree so much and I feel like with these tips, I have finally treated her the way she needed to be treated. Thanks for your help! I have the brown paint and plan to paint her soon too!

@@IVOrganicOK Charles so our tree grew to 7 feet tall and is covered in fruit! Yay! Unfortunately she toppled over in the windy storms we’ve had up here in the Bay Area. I’m at a loss. Do I trim her now even though rain is forecasted all week or wait for dryer weather? I don’t want to make her vulnerable to fungus and root. When you have a moment, any advice would be helpful. 😊

@@IVOrganic I was wondering if you could help me with some advice. At the moment, I only have 2 young semi-dwarf 'Improved Meyer' trees. Both of them had blooms and some fruit developing when I got them last week. One of them looks MUCH better than the other. I decided to not transplant that one. The scraggly one was picked by my 5 year old because "it was cute" and I couldn't say no. I figured I would take on the challenge and give the little ugly duckling a happy forever home. :D My question is it OK to prune some of the young branches right now in the spring? Some are heading in the wrong direction. Should I wait until after the fruit has been harvested in the winter? One of your other responses to me which I took to heart is to not worry too much about the first available harvest but to look ahead at future harvests. That will be hard to do though because we are all so excited to see our trees with fruit! Thanks again for your wisdom and time.

I watched your video this morning and spent 4 hours pruning my Meyer lemon. I don't remember how old it is....maybe 20 years. It is a under 5 ft, but many years produced well over 300 lemons. Thanks to your video I really got in there and cleaned up the dead wood and the downward spiraling branches. I hope to get to the other side tomorrow. I also have blossoms starting and a couple of small fruit. I am in Central California and between high heat, limited water, deer and squirrels it has managed quite well. I look forward to finding your products.

I just became a Master Gardener in Georgia, and will learn so much additional information with your videos. I will be watching and hopefully in time mastering the art of gardening. Thanks Charles.

Surely if you’re a master gardener you’ve already mastered gardening?

After watching this, I want a giant glass of fresh squeezed lemonade, with extra lemon for extra tartness. Thanks for the video and info.
    God Bless bro.

Very educational, and relaxing to watch you so gingerly take care of your plants. I just bought a lime tree and an improved meyer lemon tree from Home Depot. Looking for the perfect spot in my yard to plant them. Southeast AZ. Zone 8B

    Thanks!!! Charles,
I love how you treat and handle each tree so sweet, tender and with care!
That is how I do too and I talk to the trees and Thank them for their fruits. (: -)
I just start watching your site so I will check all of your uploads. I hope you have one for pomelo tree care. I have one pink pomelo tree that is about 12 feet tall(8 years old) and I have been supporting T & Y sticks to support bending branches with heavy huge fruits. And I wish you could make clip out of this tree? I am in So CA.
And I sure will look for your products!!!

      Hello LaMarAzura,
Great to hear from you and thank you for the compliment! :-)
I have a 2 year old Oro Blanco Grapefruit tree, and a neighbor has a 20+ year Cocktail Grapefruit tree. I will try to discuss issues I have observed with both trees in the upcoming weeks.
      Thank you again,
      Charles :-)
