To breed a new banana variety, banana breeders first cross a seedless triploid edible banana male flowers with a wild/seeded diploid female flowers (two sets chromosomes). The resulting tetraploid (four sets chromosomes) is then again crossed with a diploid to result in an new seedless triploid banana. Needless to say this would take a few years to complete ;)

I have two black mission cuttings rooting now that were accidentally done upside down, and yes, they are rooting and have new growth. To all those saying it can't be done, yes it can.
