If their role in history was one primarily tied to either building or maintaining racism and racist institutions such as slavery. Trump's "fears" are ill-founded, as the other people he mentioned do not fir the aforementioned category.

I'm not sure why people defend Trump in these events; every good action that he has done so far could be done better by better republicans. If you made a mistake by voting for him, it's okay as long as you recognize that mistake and make better decisions hereafter.

Dear US Americans, your president is insane.
G. Washington has a city named after him yet he was a slave owner. It's a liberal hub as far as I know and no one has any problem with it. When people protested against the take down of Robert E Lee statue the radical left/antifa brought clubs to attack them, the police was told to stay away. There were many beatings reported, the Antifa thugs were all masked and it will be impossible to hold them accountable. Historical revisionism is wrong especially when there are double standards involved. But since Colbert's piece on pizzagate I know he's just pushing his agenda, facts mean very little to him.
People aren't taking down statues of slave owners. They were taking down a statue of a separatist general who militarily supported the dismantling of the United States. The city had voted on it after several years of debate. Then these conservative/right wing groups poured in from other regions to protest.
Yeah it couldn't have been about slavery, because Rober E. Lee was against slavery and supported the abolition. That's why you have every right to protest, because there's nothing morally wrong in respecting 19th century war heros that just supported the losing side. And you should not beat people up for this.
I don't think Robert E. Lee was a bad guy, but he did fight against his country. Why have a statue of him? He didn't just support the losing side. He supported the side that rebelled against the United States. I'm pretty sure we don't have any statues commemorating British generals from the Revolution, and I bet the UK doesn't have any statues commemorating George Washington.
And some of those groups that came to protest taking down the statue were also looking for a fight and shouting "Jews will not replace us!" The portion of the protest concerning the statue was quickly followed by the Unite the Right rally, which had nothing to do with the statue itself.

Only if that peace comes with general understanding. We have to come together as a nation that does not devalue or oppress those with a different colored skin, cultural background, or belief system. Unfortunately that will not happen and just knowing that is saddening.

It is sad to see what this Presidency has come to. I am all for placing the statues in question in museums, because they are a part of our history showing where we came from, even if it was a morally dark place and how much we have progressed in the promise for "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" not to mention one of my favorites "all men are created equal." I think everyone has a right to a voice, but not when it includes violence, hatred, and racial slurs. I condemn all the Neo-Nazis, KKK, and white Supremacist for there violence and hate. What occurred in Charlottesville, NC was nothing short of terrorism. My dad recently had an ancestor DNA done and we are as white as you get (English/Scottish/Irish on his dad's and German/English on his mom's) surprise, surprise, we have Irish, Scottish,English, Scandinavian, German, Spanish, Chinese, Mongolian boy was my grandma and dad surprised. I challenge all of these White Supremacists, Neo-Nazi's, and KKK to have their DNA check and I bet you that 9 out of 10 have some DNA from a minority group they are against or hate!
I agree that the statues belong in museums. When they're out in public like that, literally on pedestals, they're meant to be symbols of our cultural values. A museum is a good place for them.

people does not care about the context of discussion. They only care about who is saying and if a people that is voicing their opinion is holding a different opinion from which they advocates, then expect some bloodshed.
As of this moment, I feel like a conservative side is managing to hold their sense at the last grip since they at least allow their oppositions to speak (I Know they don't listen but they at least allow others to speak). But as for the Liberal side, they are pretty much helpless. Whenever they find a peoples that disagree with their belief, they quickly resort to calling them a Nazi, white supremacist, homophobic, Islamophobic, and every kind of name calling that they could imagine.
The liberal administration throughout the western continent should have considered the opinions of conservative during the past few decades instead of labeling them as whatever they want to call them.

Screaming "Nazi, Racist, Sexist, etc" just to shut someone up for having an opinion is also wrong. Obviously, not all conservative are Nazi supporters. Obviously, not all white people are bad. Everyone is a different person.

I'm Canadian and when I visited there for 2 weeks, I did not have or witness one single, solitary instance of rudeness. Everyone just went about their own business or was actively nice to me. A lady barely bumped me with her stroller in the subway station and said, "oh sorry Hon!". There must be something to the New York attitude for it to be a stereotype, but I sure didn't see it. I'd love to see someone take a clip of that chant and lock it in as his phone's ring tone.

Harry Leslie Smith a 94 year old Royal Air Force veteran from the UK has been speaking out lately and one of the things he mentioned really got to me, he said in August 1939 him and his friends would just laugh at the newsreels of Hitler in Germany and at the age of 16 he never thought anything was going to happen. To me it reminds me of myself laughing at Trump this whole time. Now after having fought actual Nazis in WW2 he is worried that the world is repeating the same mistakes it did in WW2. The fact that a man who lived through such a terrible period is vehemently warning us of essentially repeating WW2 is scary as all hell.

Also, he did not rightfully denounce both sides. You can't say that the counter protesters were attacked so they technically partook in violence. By not calling out neo-nazis and white supremacist, he took a side. The supremacists made a statement commending trump for his actions. One side was protesting, the other had torches and guns and drove a car into people. Also don't act like this is bad for shutting down people who disagree with them. Its a fucking political comedy show (let me repeat, comedy), and Fox is just as biased and no one can get a fucking word in.
