I have never seen Nintendo Zone in action. Wanted to see what it was about as a kid, but never got the chance.
I think I interacted with the 3DS SpotPass at McDonald's one time, but that was it.
At first I thought the GBA cartridge would have acted like some sort of extra memory, the DS Browser had one that was required and seeing as this was used to distribute content it made sense.
But nope it's just a fancy LED controller. (Spoiler)

You guys should dump the console's firmware if it hasn't already be dumped.
Then see if they could flash it onto a regular DS and get that upsidedown bottom screen and no boot intro. Some original DS and DS Lite models have a specific point that can be shorted to flash custom firmware called FlashMe, though it didn't do much. Supposedly one benefit, is if it was a late enough model original DS it had a chance to enable the extra brightness options that the DS Lite had, as some of the later ones had the hardware in it.

Maybe in a CZcams Short try to hold Start on boot (to disable Autoboot) with just the GBA cart to see if it shows up in the DS menu, if that model even still has the DS menu. If anything, I guess it'll probably show up as a "DS Option Pak" like the Rumble Pak did, but more likely nothing at all.

It looks like the option to go into the wifi settings was there, it would be interesting if you could connect it and then see what happens.
A weird way of getting a new DS system, but its an option, Nintendo produced so many DS systems, you can still find many out there, but for some reason i struggle to find as many 3DS systems, they obviously sold less but still, that's a more recent system, the prices are going crazy, specially with the games.
Lucky for me. I had a brand new, new 3ds xl i traded for a new pokemon oled switch

Is it possible that on top of the indicator light that little circuit board mounted to the case could be some sort of external Wi-Fi antenna? Maybe Nintendo was worried about poor signal quality just using the built-in one in the DS lite.

Google says the GBA cart says Power Control Cartridge. I think there are ways to dump the custom firmware of the DS itself.

What's that little chip on the GBA cartridge though? If it was just for the indicator wouldn't it just be connected to the cartridge power pins and maybe a resistor at most?
Maybe I can dump the TWELVE TALES CONKER 64 later, because I know someone who has the cartridge.

Here’s my guess to why there’s a DS lite, I’m shure that if the DS has a problem like it stops working or any other hardware problem occurs they could just replace the system as opposed to just fixing hardware that they may not know how to fix

I don't know if it's already been said, but the GBA cart is likely a RAM cart, just like the original DS opera browser needed. The web browser before they started having it build in.
